"... why is it the volume of coffins that stirs your emotions? - Do you think it's like that for the families of individual soldiers?"

Double, for me it's the reality of it all. It was like seeing Kennedy's flag draped coffin. If my child was killed, I would want the whole world to see what this war did to my family and what my family sacrificed. These men and women should be honoured, not hidden from view and I was glad Kiara posted it.

First you don't have any children....so why would you want to tell the people who do how things should be run? It's done the way it is to show respect for the families...to have them left alone...away from media's stupid questions at a time like that.

Because YOU would want it done differently for YOUR child....doesn't mean they do...or that YOUR wishes or those of anyother citizen who doesn't have a family member serving...shouldn't have a voice in setting how it's done. The families should...and they did. And they did back in the 1990-91 war too.

When their family members get into their 'home' state the families can invite the press to come interview them IF that's what they want to do. But won't be bothered IF they don't.

It's called having respect for the families of our fallen soldiers.

Well kraft, that picture certainly does jar one to the realities of war, no doubt about it. I think thru the eyes of the photographer it must have been a difficult site to embrace and clearly a moment not seen before.

....Still,...there is something improprietary about it to me. Maybe the anonymousness of the mass coffins? I dont know..There are just some things that are of practical circumstance that the world is just not meant to see. So obviously I was brought up differently than you or kiara.

I think about those soliders loading the plane!! What numbness did they feel doing that? It doesnt change the fact it had to get done or that it gets done all the time in war just because through that picture I, or you saw, it getting done. Its like sick people in the hospital. You know somebody is sick. Do you have to stand there and gawk when a doctor is removing some obstruction and the sick person is throwin up or whatever? Why do you need that much more 'reality' if you know the person is very sick. Same thing. We all know the death count of the soliders. And as I said before they get their honorable funeral when they come - to those they matter to.

I didn't see Kraft trying to tell anyone what they should do, only what she would do under the circumstances....you sure haven't improved your reading comprehension skills have you ?

It is NOT done to show respect for the families. It is done so Americans aren't reminded of the horrible sacrifice we're making on a daily basis! It's bad press for bushy.

It's called having respect for the families of our fallen soldiers.

So I guess showing a casket is less respectful than the media showing U.S. soldiers being dragged through the streets of Somilia on TV. Now which would you rather see if given the choice?

Showing one casket at a funeral of a fallen soldier or showing 100 of them is no different.

Logans - one casket at a funeral defines the person who is in it. Their family, the people who will truly miss this person's presence on this earth, their identity is there. It's a smaller and broader picture all at once. Death and funerals are not for the dead to care about; they're for the living! That (plane with coffins) picture's entrance into the media/public was a pure political move, and it fell flat after a moments sensation. If it meant so much to people, or proved any real impact, the country would not have relected Bush. People cannot relate to that. Thats why the boots picture hits closer to home. Boots are personal; covered caskets are impersonal.

I looked at that picture for a long time and then posted it here because it is the reality of this war and then I took it down after threats by someone here.

The government wants to sanitize the war in Iraq because they learned from Vietnam and they realize that they don't have full support for a war based on lies, a war with no planning, a war where they sent their young men and women with no proper equipment...... but more of the military families are speaking out.

LOL....now she's been threatened....but neglects to say by whom.

But I'm sure we all remember how both she and helen are always DEMANDING to know who everyone else is speaking about when they use the word 'they, them, etc.'

cracks me up.
--------

The fallen soldiers don't belong to Canadians. While they're certainly entitled to their opinions...you have no say in how we handle our war dead.

It's a private family thing so that all the anti-war hungry people who love watching the news media use their deaths for their own agenda [to stop the war] can't be there to disrupt their mourning process.

I'm glad we have a President who respects the families desires. And can overlook the opposing opinions of those who never support the war anyway.

Carefully read over what I said, and where does it say that I want a say in how 'you' handle your dead? Nowhere did I say that.

Some military families that have opposing opinions did support the war until they became aware of the lies. I find it sad that others, especially a president, are so callous they can so readily 'overlook' the opposing opinions when there is so much heartbreak.

There are at least 1453 that are dead now and at least 10,871 injured according to the Pentagon which does not report all the injured.

LOL Good ol' CNN huh?

The same CNN where their reporter wasn't reporting all the terrible things going on in Iraq...because he knew saddam would make CNN leave if he did? So...they just reported saddam's side .
Like I'd believe them after that admission.

And the on the US troop losses...they're not Canadian losses...Canada didn't send any troops to Iraq.

Approximately 40,000 people a year die in car accidents every year in the US. Why don't you worry about those totally useless deaths instead of the deaths of the soldiers who volunteered to serve their country and fight for something worthwhile....like Freedom...removing a tyrant. No.... now you post some anti-war website...from the UK or someother foreign country...about a small handful of American families some which are struggling with their grief...others who are concerned about their loved ones. But their loved ones MADE THE CHOICE THEMSELVES.

This continuing nonsense reminds me of ABC posting on their website requesting 'any American soldiers family who has lost their loved one....email US so we can publish your story' and when did they wish to publish it? LOL on President Bush's inauguration day....LOL....they had NO AGENDA either.

So I'm not supposed to care about them? Many of my friends and family live in the US and they care, this does affect them and it affects me also.

This continuing nonsense

Nonsense? The link has been updated regularly since 2003, it shows pictures and gives info on who these men and women were, it's certainly not nonsense to me or my family and friends.

Why do you get so angry when others care about the ones that are losing their lives or are severely injured? Aren't we allowed to care or show feelings?

This is the thread that just wont die!! I should hope we get some new topics soon but here I am posting to it, too.

Linda: LOL....now she's been threatened....but neglects to say by whom.
- I was wondering the same thing? I dont remember that drama going down, but who knows? Maybe if somebody said they didnt like it and in their opinion it should be taken down - that is a considered a threat to her?

kiara you say your shy and all this, but I never see 'shy' people going on the offensive like you do. I dont think I believe it much.

libra, I hope you dont think I was saying you are clintonesque -0- I was saying you are the opposite!! Which is a decided nice change from trying to communicate with people here on any normal forthright level. I told my other half about this thread and he said this about you: "but she knows what she talking about, though." [And I knew that already ]

You know what occurred to me? Could you imagine this bunch on a stranded island?

LOL!!
ok five cents day. I'm outta here for awhile!
