No more G-WOT; now it’s G-SAVE

8/4/2005

Well, it’s an official, if little reported, fact: The Global War on Terrorism (G-WOT) is over. We’re now involved in what the Bush Administration dubbed last week the Global Struggle Against Violent Extremism (G-SAVE). G-WOT (which always sounded like a question in a Cockney accent) has been replaced by G-SAVE. The administration’s pollsters undoubtedly told them SAVE is a much better acronym than WOT.

Ever since 9/11, the administration has claimed that anything other than war was for whimps. Pre-9/11 thinking, is the way Vice President Dick Cheney has continually dubbed it. Even though declaring war on a tactic—terrorism—had a certain strangeness about it.

Now, however, we are being warned to move from “war” to “struggle,” which has a sort of neo-Workers of the World connotation. Are the Neocons changing into Neocoms? And will the war against “violent extremism” include Christian hate groups and others on the Far Right?

Perhaps, given the homegrown terrorists abroad in Great Britain, the Bush Administration has finally come to realize that not all terrorist bases can be bombed, and that using international police methods to clamp down on them might be more effective than invading random Third World countries. On the other hand, reports Wednesday suggested the President’s men forgot to tell him he wasn’t in a war any more and he wasn’t pleased at the news. So stay tuned.

Absolute faith has been shown, consistently, to breed intolerance. And intolerance, history teaches us, again and again, begets violence.

President George Bush: "Our people are going to find out the truth, and the truth will say that this intelligence was good intelligence. There's no doubt in my mind."

Bush was right. The truth did come out and the facts are he misled Congress and the American people about the reasons we should go to war in Iraq.

Good post, Logan! Should I do Linda's answer or should we just let her do it herself?
Or should we put her on ignore since we know exactly what she's going to say anyway

Here, I'll say it: You are anti-American for not supporting the troops. Oh, and Clinton did it.

It wasn't to long ago that Bush said "We are safe". Is this no longer the case?

"Well, it’s an official, if little reported."

Gosh, it's been all over the news, in all the papers, the NY Times, The Washington Post, etc. - perhaps you missed it?

The reason for the change:
"A new emphasis on reminding the public of the broader, long-term threat to the United States may allow the administration to put into broader perspective the daily mayhem in Iraq and the American casualties."
Gen. Richard B. Myers, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff

How sinister of them! (she says sarcastically)...

But the War on Terror is NOT over....as the twisters imply....and if they EVER actually listened to what our President says in his MOST recent speeches....he's still using the words "War on terror AND terrorists".....but you'd never know that listening to the 'twisting dems' here.

Caroline what post were you addressing? What POINT were you trying to make?

What do you think is so sinister? So far it seemed like a pretty light hearted thread.

Caroline, I think by now a few posters are starting to catch on to you

Here's a total "babble"..."lol Caroline....that's the way it works around here."""

You should all know by now the Iraq War has been over for a long time. "MISSION ACCOMPLISHED" from "HARD WORK" and by "STAYING THE COURSE" we are "SAFER NOW" that's why our GREAT PRESIDENT can take so many vacations.

What a unique, never-thought-of-before marketing ploy! If you change the name, you change the product. You've fooled the masses into thinking there's something new and progressive being planned, when it's the same stuff with a different label. Kind of like the way Bush changed (daily) all the reasons for going to war in Afghanistan and Iraq - to see which one the people bought. How brilliant!

Kraft, its like all the name labels for Democrats the G.O.P. have given their talking heads like Linda_K. That poor confused old woman can't type a few lines without sounding like a Parrot for Rove and the boys.

Hey Linda_K, I know you read every post on your 3 computers around your house. You must be getting ready to give up the last seat in the last life boat to Bush from his sinking ship.

Yes!!! Linda, THE SHARKS ARE CIRCLING

There is NO HOPE for you anti-war, Bush hating liberals who refuse to state the facts as they are/were.

KD - I don't understand why you keep repeating the same lies over and over. It only takes away from your credibility here. Or maybe that doesn't matter to you...it's all just a game. I have already posted links, many times to the President's speech where he mentioned ALL the reasons we were going to take saddam down. There was no 'changing' why we went....ALL the reasons were stated by HIM from the beginning.

Are there no honest liberals here anymore? All you do is speak lies....

You are the Supreme One, only you are right.
Relax, we all agree with you . All Liberals are rotten liars and Bush is another Supreme Being just like you!

I found the article rather funny because it is a very local newspaper where I am from. The area votes Republicans - so the paper is mainly a Republican newspaper.

but you'd never know that listening to the 'twisting dems' here.

In case you havent noticed Linda, it is not only Democrats that oppose Bush's War. OVER 60% OF THE COUNTRY IS AGAINST THE WAR. There are some REPUBLICANS in that group.

I guess some of the 59 million are starting to wake up and realized they made a mistake in voting for Bush.

LINDA, HOW DO YOU LIKE BEING IN THE MINORITY NOW

You ask what post I am responding to - that makes no sense, I quoted the opening post in my response and directly addressed the quote.

When I say, "how sinister" I was referring sarcastically to the Bush Administration's reason for changing how they referenced the war. It was quite clear and open in the quote from Gen. Myers

It was all quite clear, so sorry it was not broken down better for you, I guess I overestimated your reading level.

Ugh....NO ms.kiara....there is a great difference between having an opinion...that may or may not be agreed with....and the FACTS that are written/transcribed of President's Bushes speech...announcing to the Nation [b]ALL[/i] HIS reasons for going to war.

But don't worry....I know you can't grasp the difference. Doesn't surprise me one bit that you'd confuse the two.

---------------------

On the poll numbers....all you yo-yo's need to remember is the poll numbers WON'T be changing a thing. Our re-elected President will continue in office until Jan. 20, 2009

So ....complain away.

See....opinion vs. proven FACTS that I've posted but some of the liberals here are to dense to comprehend.

Opinions are NOT provable.

Thank-you Kiara and Bigpeepa

Linda, it's common knowledge that Bush changed his war justification regularly. Here's a few obvious ones -
- to get Osama
- to get the Taliban
- to liberate Afghanistan
- to get Saddam
- to get the nuclear womd
- to get the chemical & biological womd
- to get any weapons
- to liberate Iraq
- to fight terroists
- to fight insurgents

I'm not lying. That's what happened.

And I'm telling you, KD, you are by repeatedly saying he's changed the reasons we went to war.

He has not. And anyone can pull up his speech when he addressed our Nation on why we were going to war.

of course, I'm beginning to see that no anti-bush liberal here is able to research it themselves....so they just keep repeating the lies that the liberal media are so famous for.

That could be part of why they haven't been gaining in political ground, not winning any elections. There just aren't that many stupid Americans who believe the lies from the left....they are able to read his own words.

Thanks Mingotree.

"... anyone can pull up his speech when he addressed our Nation on why we were going to war."

Which war?

Linda, I'm well aware of the speeches Bush made to justify everything and I know there's always more than one reason for going to war, but you can't deny that Bush changed his tune on a regular basis.

Invading Afghanistan to find Osama turned in to getting rid of the Taliban, to fighting terrorists, to liberating them all, to bringing democracy, etc. None of which have happened. (I haven't heard him talk about Afghanistan in ages so I don't know what term he's now using for the situation there.)

Bush said Saddam had womd pointing at the U.S. and Israel, ready to fire. He said the threat of attack from Iraq was imminent. None of which was true, so the excuses evolved into the other things I listed.

As for being a lying, anti-Bush liberal, I don't think that's fair just because I have a different way of looking at things. (sticking my tongue out at you)
