We don't have any illegals working in restaurants over here that I can tell, so I think I'm safe!

We do have a major influx of them, but they are all working the farms.

There is no bigotry in being against illegal immigration. They are breaking our laws by entering this country illegally - I don't care if they are Mexican, Scandinavian, Chinese, French, or pink! It is against the law for them to be here. They are draining our resources such as social services, law enforcement, INS, etc.

I mentioned the TB issue that is due to illegal immigration - part of the reason they sneak in to the country is that they know they can get medical treatment here! It costs over $10,000 to run the full course of TB treatment. Those are your tax dollars, that is what you are working for - to pay for someone's medical treatment who is breaking the law and will never contribute financially, or any other way, to this society.

You are right.. bigotry and being against illegal immigration do not neccesarily go hand in hand..

...and will never contribute financially, or any other way, to this society.

But from your words, it seems that in your case they clearly do.

I guess it depends on how you define bigotry, if you consider bigotry to be simply intolerance, then correct - I am intolerant of illegal immigration. If you are using the word bigotry in the racism sense, then you are way off the mark.

I would say the fact that you have deemed these people to have no ability to contribute to our society about as small bigoted as it gets. I's say the fat that you believe that just because someone comes from a different country that they don't wash their hands is ignorant and the fact that you have somehow accosiated gastric distress from a fast food restaurant with the citizenship of the server as bigotry bred of ignorance.

I'm just calling then as I see them.

BTW - could someone please tell me how exactly you are able to demise the immigration status of a Burger King employee when waiting for your order? Is there some tell tale manner is which they dump the fries or operate the microwave?

They smell differently but hey don't blame that one on me, blame Maggie for that one. lol

Actually it's because no matter how many times you ask them they seem to allways get your order wrong. Now this could be because they are either stupid or they just don't understand the language, i choose the latter.

The facts speak for themselves, i don't experience anymore gastric distress since i gave up the fast food and actually i haven't given it up entirely, i just don't eat at restaurants where illegal non english speaking people are employed. I don't experience gastric distress at the several oriental and italian restaurants that i frequent.

OK - so again I ask... How exactly do you know the immigration status of the person behind the grill? Is it just because they speak spanish? If so - that's a rather niave not to mention generally inaccurate method.

I used to travel with a group of guys from Mexico all the time. They not only were all legal but made more than probably 90% of the people that we came across in our travels. They were consistantly treated like sh*t when we would go out to eat or shopping because they all spoke spanish. Can't tell you how embarassing it was to me considering the overwhelmingly positive experiences I had with complete strangers when I first started going to Mexico with absolutely no ability to speak their language.

When repeating an order for the fourth time and they still don't understand, if you mention the Spanish word 'imigra'(sp) to them their eyes will usually open real wide and they go and get the manager.

Besides that, i can tell by looking and listening to them. Their mannerisms, their accents. It's like how you can tell if a white person is from say Austrailia or England, by the accent in their voices.

PI - looking and listening may tell you their country of origin but I fail to see how you can tell what their visa status is. Just what is the difference in accent between an illegal immigrant from Oaxaca and a legal one?

BTW - If you say "imigra" and their eyes go large and they turn to look for the manager it's probably because they are too polite to laugh in your face but they have to share this one with their boss. It la migra.

Of course you are right that i can't tell what their visa status is by looking at them but then that isn't really the issue here. The issue is that they come from areas of south and central America where their hygene practices aren't up to par with ours and i can tell by looking at them and listening to them what their country of origin is.

Maybe we need prof to explain this one. I mean, every time I visit a friend in Mexico or stay at a hotel there is soap right there by the sink. Since you so many of you feel this is not used for washing ones hands, maybe he can explain it's purpose.

The amazing thing though is that dispite this apparent ignorance of santiary processes, they have the same "employees must wash hands" signs that are in fast food places all over the US but in Spanish.

You are thinking in a very narrow field of stereotypes. It's like your only view of Mexico, Central and South America comes from Save the Children ads.

Hell TB is an airborn disease. Doesn't matter if a carrier washes their hands. It's about what they breath out and you breath in.

Gotta comment on this older quote...
"Because illegal and legal immigrants are hired into food service, dish washing, cooking, hotels and day care--leprosy finds speedy access across the country."

Last data I can find for US numbers is 2002 - there were a whopping 96 cases. Just how speedy is that access. It is a great scare quote though.

I don't believe it has anything to do with scarying anyone. It's a fact that immigrants ARE bring diseases into our country. That's a fact.

I know you love the Mexican population but you really need to accept the facts as they are. You chose to focus on only the stats on Leprosy....TB has a much higher rate of transmission.

Many articles can be found giving the stats.....here is but one.,

http://encarta.msn.com/encyclopedia_761578788/Leprosy.html

Leprosy can ALSO be spread by sneezing. Most sites I checked say there are approx. 300 new cases a year in the US....and the biggest problem is that it goes un-diagnosed for long periods of time.

It also states there are approx 7000 cases now of Leprosy in the US. And on many of the articles they ALL state the concern is the numbers are growing. That it IS indeed becoming more of a health threat for Americans.

Also....this article does speak to the issue that when Mexicans are finally diagnosed with leprosy....they head to American...where they know they'll be given FREE treatment....which is expensive....and our taxpayers are footing the bill.

Indian's make up a big part of the numbers of leprosy patients too. Not just Mexicans.

Maggie, as you can see, Linda only addresses double standards (over and over and over and over again) when it applies to lefties.
When she's doing it she expects others to ignore it. THEN she doesn't even mention it

On site after site....Doctors speak of their concerns....

here's another one.

Leprosy's Comeback

The number of cases of leprosy in the U.S. have more than doubled since 2000, according to a report cited by Worldnetdaily.com.

"It's creeping into the U.S.," said Dr. William Levis, head of the New York Hansen's Disease Clinic. "This is a real phenomenon. It's a public health threat." The source? Immigration.

"Americans should be told that diseases long eradicated in this country - tuberculosis, leprosy, polio, for example - and other extremely contagious diseases have been directly linked to illegals," said Rep. J.D. Hayworth, R-AZ.

"For example, in 40 years, only 900 persons were afflicted with leprosy in the U.S. In the past three years, more than 7,000 cases have been presented," he told the Business Journal of Phoenix.

Steve Pfeifer, head of statistics and epidemiology at the National Hansen's Disease Program, said that diseased aliens come to the U.S. to get free treatment. "They're coming to be treated because they get treatment free and probably get better treatment here," he said. "Somebody down there [Latin America] diagnoses them and says, 'hey, you've got leprosy, and your best course of action is probably high-tailing to the U.S.'"

It's too bad, crowfarm, that you can't see there is NO double standard in my case.

I never mentioned anything about wanting maggie to speak out about YOUR actions being wrong. I was referring to her DEFENDING your vile, vulgar etc. statements to others. She took your side....always feeling so sorry for you being picked on. waaa waass

I NEVER defended anything vile anybody has ever said here....an that includes statements made by twelve.

There is a HUGE difference....not at all the same.

But, of course, expecting YOU, with your standards, to see that...would be nearly impossible.

Here in Maryland we have a local conservative talk show host named Michael Graham. He was incensed that the local high school was hosting an outdoor fair that was a pro-illegal alien rally in Montgomery County one weekend. So he showed up (with his media credentials) wearing a black t-shirt with "INS" on it.

He was not allowed to enter the rally, and also had police called on him who ordered him to leave the area.

So the answer to the question "How do you know if the person behind the counter is illegal"? You wear an INS t-shirt - if they start running, chances are, they are not legal.

Sorry - couldn't resist.

Linda - can you find any health source that backs up those numbers? Like I said, the most recent info I could find was from the CDC and and their numbers were 96 cases in 2002. So don't you think there would be a great deal of attention, at least among the medical community if the statement In the past three years, more than 7,000 cases have been presented were even close to true.

Dont you think that that type of increase would draw a great deal of attention when the world wide rate of reported cases has dropped 20%?

Like I said - they sound like very effective scare quotes.

fenix, I would think alot of it goes undocumented. Perhaps unless there are children involved, some illegals might not even seek medical help if they have fears about it leading to deportation, or they dont have money or proof of residency, or whatever is involved in that?

I dont know... just a thought....

The 7000 figure for the US may have been distorted when taken from the Pan American Health Organization site?

"From this figure, it can be estimated that there are about 7,000 unknown cases in Latin American countries that have already eliminated leprosy, i.e. excluding Brazil and Paraguay."

http://www.paho.org/English/SHA/eb_v21n1-leprosy.htm

Nationmaster has many links on leprosy and it is cured with antibiotics. Their info was updated just a week ago. They also have a link with the world mortality rate.

One of the sources I used when looking at the numbers was a report in the spring issue of the Journal of American Physicians and Surgeons. Here is a link to the referring article:
http://www.worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=43275

Other items of interest from the article:

84 California hospitals are closing their doors as a direct result of the rising number of illegal aliens and their non-reimbursed tax on the system.

When Linda Torres was arrested in Bakersfield, Calif., with about $8,500 in small bills in a sack, the police originally thought it was stolen money, explained the report. It was her Social Security lump sum for her disability -- heroin addiction.

MDR-TB takes 24 months with many expensive drugs that cost around $250,000 with toxic side effects. Each illegal with MDR-TB coughs and infects 10 to 30 people, who will not show symptoms immediately.

TB was virtually absent in Virginia until in 2002, when it spiked a 17 percent increase, but Prince William County, just south of Washington, D.C., had a much larger rise of 188 percent. Public health officials blamed immigrants. In 2001 the Indiana School of Medicine studied an outbreak of MDR-TB, and traced it to Mexican illegal aliens

Leprosy, also known as Hansen's disease, was so rare in America that in 40 years only 900 people were afflicted. Suddenly, in the past three years America has more than 7,000 cases of leprosy. Leprosy now is endemic to northeastern states because illegal aliens and other immigrants brought leprosy from India, Brazil, the Caribbean and Mexico.
