FAMILY OF FALLEN SOLDIER PLEADS: PLEASE STOP, CINDY!
Thu Aug 11 2005 12:56:21 ET
The family of American soldier Casey Sheehan, who was killed in Iraq on April 4, 2004, has broken its silence and spoken out against his mother Cindy Sheehan's anti-war vigil against George Bush held outside the president's Crawford, Texas ranch.
The following email was received by the DRUDGE REPORT from Casey's aunt and godmother:
Our family has been so distressed by the recent activities of Cindy we are breaking our silence and we have collectively written a statement for release. Feel free to distribute it as you wish. Thanks Ð Cherie
In response to questions regarding the Cindy Sheehan/Crawford Texas issue: Sheehan Family Statement:
The Sheehan Family lost our beloved Casey in the Iraq War and we have been silently, respectfully grieving. We do not agree with the political motivations and publicity tactics of Cindy Sheehan. She now appears to be promoting her own personal agenda and notoriety at the the expense of her son's good name and reputation. The rest of the Sheehan Family supports the troops, our country, and our President, silently, with prayer and respect.
Sincerely,
Casey Sheehan's grandparents, aunts, uncles and numerous cousins.

WOW that many don't have a clue. 62% you sure about that, seems like the American public is a little more savvy than that.

Very interesting, Bear. I think Cindy Sheehan has become such a political pawn of the libs that she doesn't know whether she's coming or going.
I feel very, very bad for her. Michael Moore, et al. need to stop using her for their own political agenda.
Bush has met and spoken with her once. She was satisfied with that conversation at the time.
I feel very, very bad for her. She is being used and her actions are a slap in the face not only to other parents who have lost a child, but obviously from the info in the opening post, her own family.

Ha! And HOW exactly is she being "used" ?
According to her, she went there of her own accord, how do YOU know differently?
She seems like a pretty independent person to me.
Used? She can leave if she chooses.
Laughable try at discrediting her.
I did notice that someone must've realized how it would look if they arrested her as previously planned
With this being world news, it sure wouldn't have looked too good.
"" a slap in the face not only to other parents who have lost a child""
How's that?
Many people who have lost loved ones in Iraq are firmly behind her. And how is HER opinion a slap?
Does this mean that others who lost people in Iraq LIKED it?
"", but obviously from the info in the opening post, her own family."""
For the poster who can't seem to read too many posts ...
Cindy is NOT her family. They do NOT own her.
Where do you live, caroline, that women are owned by their families, Saudi Arabia?
They are simply other people with opinions...so what?

Carolinetyler you bring up some valid points and it is understandable to see that she could be being used by the left.
It is a sad thing that her own family doesn't by into her reasons and think is she is wrong. Wonder if they were a close fanily until this?

Ya, know, if you guys listened to Big Ed he has interviewed Cindy HERSELF over the phone almost every day this week.
Instead of sound bites (and the Drudge report) you could've heard HER explain HER reasons for doing what she's doing.
From what I heard, I think that if she's "used" by the left, or anyone else, to end this war, she'd be very happy.
Again, I'm sorry if there's still people in this century who believe women must tow the family line.

I totally agree with Caroline. It's just so sad.
She's now in the normal anger stage of her grief....and she will come to realize, at some time in the future, that this anger isn't going to bring her son back....nor change what our Congress/President decides to do.
President Bush has spoken so gently about understanding her pain. About understanding people oppose this war. But he also explained, quite clearly, he has no intention of changing our National policy because of the loss of her son. Just not going to happen.
She'll work through this stage of her grief....it's a long, long road. But the fact that the wacko liberals [moveon.org/michael moore add co.] are using her is so dispicable it will only bring shame on them. No gain.

Once again false assumptions from the right .
HOW do you know she thinks her protest will bring her son back? Did you hear HER say so?
I heard CINDY speak in her own words and she said nothing of the kind and it expressly ISN'T the reason for her vigil.
Yes, Bush FINALLY addressed the situation.
In their first meeting he was himself...arrogant, flippant, rude and uncaring.
And , again, HOW is the "liberal media" USING her.
Just your old fashioned sexist ideas that a woman can't have her own opinion and express them any way she chooses..
Now, Linda and Caroline, get back to the kitchen and bake some cookies and don't neglect that knitting

When my father needed a kidney transplant he was at a nationally known hospital for evaluation to be placed on the waiting list to receive a kidney.
The hospital rejected him as a recipient. We never found out exactly why. He died 3 weeks later. I was, and am, very angry - just like Cindy Sheehan is angry.
You find someone or something to which you can direct your anger to deal with it.
Am I right for being angry at this hospital? Would my father have wanted me to go sit outside this hospital and call the doctors murderers? Would he want me to sue them? No he wouldn't have wanted this, neither would my family.
It would be selfish of me to do this to make myself feel better without thinking about my fathers wishes, my families wishes, and those other potential kidney transplant patients.
So I didn't do any of those things.

Did the doctors or the hospital administrators refuse to meet with you to explain their decision that led to your father's death?

blah blah blah..."Cindy HERSELF"
Another 15 minute hall of fame'r we are all so intimately involved with now as to be going around calling her "CINDY". What a media "John" you are crowfart! Whatever they prostitute you are first in line to buy!
What makes this woman think that of the 1900 or so men and woman killed with parents and family that SHE gets to demand a special audience with the President of the United States? And what makes her think she can get him and him alone to change national strategy to suit her? And, as Linda already pointed out - does that bring her son back?

Caroline,
By your example, are you implying that the dead soldier's mother is inconsiderate and selfish? If you are, you have the same degree of compassion, empathy and understanding as Bush...ZERO.

Caroline - It would be selfish of me to do this to make myself feel better.......
And, imo, while it is a very normal phase of grief to go though - work through....it doesn't usually make one 'feel better', because it doesn't change anything. It's the process of working through that anger that brings healing and the ability to 'let go'.
I'm so sorry to hear of your Father being rejected as a candidate for the transplant. I know how hard/frustrating and how it would be difficult to have them tell you/him/his family they won't operate on him....for whatever their reasons were.

Yes, Many, Many people around the WORLD are now calling her Cindy....like some call Senator Clinton, Hillary.DUH!
NOBODY has ever suggested it would bring her son back.
You neocons wouldn't understand her position...she cares about others. She wants the killings of other's sons and daughters to stop.

The President is not in the "feel good" business and doesn't have the time to address every citizen's emotional needs.
She ALREADY knows why/how her son died. And what exactly would the President say to someone who fought like crazy to convince her son not to join and who wanted to take him to Canada when his unit was called? There is nothing to be done. She has her agenda and wants to see it through.

I agree, desquirrel.
But we all know the news the last couple of weeks has been devoid of anything the liberals can REALLY complain about.....so now they've focused their attention on this group of 50 protestors and a grieving mother.

It's REALLY sick to promote the Bush war agenda. Now, over 1800 have been killed in a war that was justified by a lie, unplanned and now is lost. How can you promote that agenda?

Duh is the right word coming out of your mouth mingotree!
Many, Many people... , Yes, people who have achieved some noteriety for something they've done and have been doing all along. Something that touches so many people in some way that people come to feel they know them on a first name basis. People who make a contribution to society over a certain length of time! Not a Left-wing media darling that wants to disrupt a President. He and his camp have been very very patient and have explained their position to the media in the best way possible.
So if he grants her a visitation, then what?
Will that placate her? No, she wants it stop you say. Well, its not going to be stopped because Cindy SHEEHAN says so! What does she just want to go down in the history books or something?

Everyone has an agenda, but the right winged conservative Republicans.
Gotta love them. They have been using the term agenda for at least 40 years now. Maybe next year they will come up a "B" word.
Absolute faith has been shown, consistently, to breed intolerance. And intolerance, history teaches us, again and again, begets violence.

Bush was right. The truth did come out and the facts are he misled Congress and the American people about the reasons we should go to war in Iraq.
