Maui,

I have to go back to acceptance to answer that because one thing I have learned is that no one is perfect. In a small town, on any given day, all hell can break loose and friends last through the good times and bad.

My friends have their foibles and I have mine. We just accept each other for what we are and are tolerant at times. Most of the time we have fun.

Shelley, watch your back. She is no friend.
If she takes your pictures, she'll take other things. Sounds like a user to me. I think you have been tolerant enough.

Shell, I remember that "fiend" of yours. Turn her in. Now. Today. That is not a friend, girly girl. Shes a user.

Nobs...that was beautiful You are in my garden, forever.

Calamity, yours was too.

edited to add Rawbunzel...you sound like me

WOW... I have always had just a handful of RL friends. I found that having a LOT of them gets too catty, one always having a problem with another and so on. OL friends...what better place to meet them but here? It's obvious that everyone here speaks their minds, no matter if people are going to like what they say or not. Want an honest opinion about something? Just post your question here, and they will come.

. I have many many acquaintences...and only a very few friends. Takes much to get that word out of me, ya know? And once done, Im a loyal one and expect the same.

As someone mentioned in the above quote that pretty sums it up for me.

What is a friend?

Well I had a nice long post, then deleted it.

After re-reading it I realized it was a bit more personal that I wanted to expose.

A friend is a friend.

Hey Maui. I like this thread. Been thinking about this for a long time. When I first got here my "plan" (not really a plan) was to be friends with everybody. I wanted that and I still would like something like that but I know that's probably unrealistic. Some people just sort of click and some don't sometimes. I CAN "get along" with most everyone...

On occasion though, it seems there are some who just don't seem want to even get along, (I don't mean with me personally necessarily) some who just don't seem to get along with hardly anybody or only a few...and the personally I guess there are some who might not want to get along with me or might not like me personally for what-ever reason...when there is a specific reason it seems to me more understandable, say maybe we clashed somewhere alog the line or something...

I'm thinking about what jeanyu said. I think it's all real. She asked something like what if somebody said something and then all of a sudden you're thinking "Do I really know this person?" Heck, on a few (rare) occasions I've looked at my own husband and thought the same thing and he's real and also my best friend...

I just went to a wedding yesterday. It was one of the nicest weddings I've ever been to. The couple met through a want ad. The bride fell in love with the guy from his first letter (her best girlfriend wanted him too, heh). It was as real as anything...and it was/is beautiful...

ot botherig to edit ("a" nd "n" keys re the worst) - see?

Later...

Herself....thank you! Me you too!....I havent seen you around for a spell and thats my fault because I hop from here to there, so Im not in one place too long. I always do seem to find myself back here at the Back 40 (sorry folks, but thats my pet name for this place...and it always WILL be that to me) and there are so many folks I would like to see more often, but they, too, post hither and yon.

You are right about what you said...some folks cant or wont be friends (acquaintences) because something just isnt there to start the process of it. For some, it happens immediately (the LIKING) of someone....like for instance ShellyHerr..I liked her immediately, and it seems we were always pals, but I just met her...same with shellspc (just examples), because maybe I liked what I saw posted and they did also. Others, I cant get near because there is a wall up, so I respect it. Yes, I too wanted to like and be liked by [i]everyone[/]....not gonna happen. Took me 3 years to figure that out (1 of those years on boards).

Anyway, I learned alot from this thread, and Im thankful to everyone who posted in it because it gives me insight. I did tell a few others at other boards to come read this...because the same question has been asked recently, in other places, posted by other people.
