""I know I sound grouchy""
No, you sound like you got hit with a bunch of common sense !!!! You aren't grouchy because you refuse to be a lemming.
Now tell your siblings you all are too old to be getting gifts and want it to stop.
Obligatory gifts are NOT gifts!
And if you think YOU'RE grouchy....just visit a mall right before Christmas ...it'll be loaded with REALLY grouchy "Christmas revelers"......who have no clue what "peace on earth" means.

I'm seeing more and more of our friends opting out of the holiday-season commercialism. It may just be our age group. It's appalling to me how much money is spent just decorating exteriors, not to mention interiors. And then the gift escalation. I still think back to the first Christmas I can remember. There was a tree in the little living room of our parsonage--the first church my father had after finishing his education. The tree had tinsel and ornaments. My brother and I each received a few little gifts, and my favorites were the story books.
Of course, those were the days when adults didn't even dress up for Halloween.
How times have changed!

It may be a good idea to begin very early to teach children about the commercialism of Christmas and other such traditions that tend to keep the merchants happier than most families.
My awakening on this score happened when my children were very young and I had knocked myself out with a Santa production. One daughter after opening more gifts than any child should have received said, "Is that all there is?"

Went to the mall yesterday for the first time yesterday. Insanity as usual. I don't see people cutting back at all, with the amount of lines at checkout, traffic and parking.
I wanted to take the girls, sons in laws and grandchildrens 'Christmas fund' to the casino.
I should have
Oh well
done
Merry Christmas

Then you can fling open the gates and set yourself free. Let the cat teach YOU a lesson!
I wouldn't mind of that pussy taught me a lesson or two.

I am getting really sick of tasteless Christmas commercials. Burlington Coat Factory's are especially nauseous this year. "Do you believe in Santa"? Little girl: "I believe in cashmere"! And a new one "Wise men bring gifts. Wise men shop at Burlington Coat Factory". Ugh!

I'm with you, Pixi.
I keep wondering--if we dropped a Martian into the middle of our Christmas madness, how could we explain it?
