I'm willing to let Helen have the last word.

The visit is because of excruciating pain in my right(good!) hip, so bad I cry out and can't put any weight on that leg at all, first thing in the morning. I don't know what I'd do without Bob to be there for me. Xrays show nothing, so I'm getting an MRI Monday of my lumbar spine, since the pain is probably referred radiating pain from some bad discs. Back surgery is my very last resort, so I'm trying everything else. Doc put me on Percocet (yikes) for a week, starting yesterday, but it hardly touches that early morning pain. We shall see. Thanks for asking.

Roadsmith, I've never been concerned about having the "last word".

I am sorry to hear about your excruciating pain which may explain your out of character response or rather lack of response in this thread. If I had known that you were ill, I would have ignored the topic entirely.

I sincerely hope that your problem will be resolved soon without need for invasive treatment.

Thanks, Kiara, and you too, Helen. This is discouraging but not hopeless. It's still better than many other things that could go wrong. I'm trying to live with my arthritis and whatever else is going on in that danged hip, and to do it with grace and courage. (I've been aware since my kids were born that I was modeling for them how to grow older. Choice is cranky or happy. I'm happy, still!

Most of the time pain meds help me to keep moving, keep selling on the internet, keep going to events. It's the mornings that are so rough. If it all points to the pain coming from my lower spine, I'll definitely get the back surgery.

My thoughts are with you as well, Roadsmith. One should not not feel indebted to pursue nonsensical interpretations of Chaucer when called to the ER to feed a nonsensical ego. Helen, to date, must always have the the last word but her history of interpreting the right connotations has always been questionable, at best.

Your last remark, or as you call it, "last word" was so unnecessary, pixiamom, especially after Roadsmith so kindly accepted my sincere best wishes stated above.

My mention of Chaucer was an attempt to ammeliorate a misunderstanding which was compounded by Roadsmith's absence due to what I later learned was due to a serious medical emergency.

Your characteristic, untimely and unfounded insult is noted.

I agree with Helen, it seemed roadsmith wanted this dropped and then Pixia picks it up again. Why?

By the way, Roadsmith I hope your situation is better. I can't imagine living with that kind of pain.

Deichen, Roadsmith said that she would be having an MRI today so maybe we will hear from her this week.

Here's my preliminary report (and I don't want to make all this sound more important than it is! I know things could be much much worse).
Had the MRI today, will get the results Wednesday. That machine is noisy! So noisy it got funny after a while. 30 minutes of intermittent and sometimes 3.5 minutes of solid noise; thank goodness for ear plugs. I just went inside my head to my special place--the beach at Lake Michigan where we spent some wonderful summer weeks when I was just a child. Closed my eyes and thought about that lovely lonely beach, the nice water, waking up early to make sure the waves were still there. I actually dozed off for a minute or two during that test. I don't think I'll be afraid to have another one someday if it's needed.

I had an MRI a few years ago, it was an awful experience. My head was enclosed in this machine, about 3 inches from my face, rotating, clicky and noisy for about 45 minutes. I honestly thought I might go crazy in there, I also tried to think of being somewhere else, I am very afraid of tight places. I got thru it, but hope I never have to do that again. I had lost my hearing in my right ear and they found out it was due to a rapid infection that attacked my ear (same thing has happened to Foxy Brown and Rush Limbaugh). Hearing aid did not help. I have constant ringing and pinging in that ear, at first I thought that would drive me over the edge, but evenually, I have gotten used to it.

Keep us updated on the results.

Good for you, Roadsmith! For reasons that I can't really define well, I have very little confidence in the medical community. So, I can't imagine being as calm as you were while constrained in a machine that sounds like it needs a tune up.

Forty five minutes, Deichen? Wow!

Deichen: There were a few more inches above me than what you had, and there was cool air circulating throughout the machine, all during the test. Maybe it's a newer model?

I did ask how they'd manage with a 400-pound person; they have another machine that accommodates extra pounds, but the technician said much less information is gleaned that way.

Just read that open MRI's are available for pediatric, elderly, anxious, claustrophobic or obese patients up to 500 pounds...depending on their specific body shape. The woman featured in Pixiamom's thread might not fit.

Yes, I lost my hearing in 2001, hopefully things have improved on those machines!
