Boy, is this thread bringing memories back! Thinking about my turkey encounter today reminded me of another feathered "romance" I had:

About 4 years ago I was still working at the Renaissance Pleasure Faire. There was an "offstage" area by the lake where we could relax, and quite a few ducks & geese inhabited the lake. One day as I sat by the lake a large white gander waddled past. Now I don't know what prompted me, but for some reason as he passed I crooned "Goose-goose! Goose!" He stopped dead & looked at me. So I said again, "Goose! Goose!

To the amazement of everyone sitting near me, he came right up & sat close beside me. I felt quite daring & put my arm about him & stroked his neck--and he didn't object. In fact, he began "grooming" my hair! I guess the goose thought this cemented our relationship--he thought I was *his* and began hissing at & chasing anyone who came near me.

Our relationship was doomed from the start, of course. We came from different worlds. When he tried to consummate his love (I am *not* kidding!), I had to break it off. He retired to the lake in a huff. When my lunch break was over, though, I looked for him--he was swimming out on the lake. I called Goose-goose! Goose!" again and in he swam. I patted him and gave him the remains of my sandwich as a farewell.

edited because "past" is just not the same as "passed"

I could go on forever about our 'children'-a 13 yr old siamese, weiner dog, and weimaraner. but the funniest story is about our sheep!

My boys raised sheep for FFA when they were in high school. Larry came in one afternoon and told the boys to come with him right away. One of the lambs had got his head stuck in the feedbucket and was running wild all over the pen.He couldn't see a thing, so it was a pretty wild run. The bad thing was that all the other sheep were following him! Through water trough, barn, wherever he went!

Is this where the expression'bunch of sheep' comes from?

My funniest kitty story occurred when I got a young cat (Bailee) to be a companion to my old lady kitty (Patches). Bailee's former owner had brought her toys with her so she had a few familiar things. I kept Bailee in my den for the first few days, with her toys, as she had a tendency to hiss and growl at Patches. Apparently, while Bailee was hissing and spitting, Patches, obviously the smarter of the two, was plotting the perfect revenge! When I finally let Bailee out, she roamed the entire apartment, but she would NOT go in my bedroom, recognizing this as Patches' exclusive territory. When I got home from work that night, I saw Bailee sitting forlornly just outside my bedroom door, staring in at ALL her toys, arranged just out of reach on the bedroom floor! Patches was laying on the bed smirking. Who says cats are dumb? That was diabolical!
