oh, that could very well be then  I don't get all this fancy stuff...I do know how to cut and paste though!  But that's pretty much the extent of my computer knowledge.  Thanks.

I got these courtesy of brooklynguy, who posted them on a thread I started asking about smilies. (I'm not sure if he was trying to be cute, or if he was disgusted at my newbie request...)
Here's what I did to save them:
Right click on the smiley (or other gif) you want to save, then click on "properties." A window will appear showing the url. Highlight the entire url, right click and choose "copy." Go to a word processing document, right click and choose "paste." In your document, add [$url] before "http" and add [/url$] at the end of the line (don't use the $, obviously). Then you can do a copy/paste into your AW post whenever you want to use the gif. You could probably add the url as a "favorite" in your browser, but it's easier for me to keep my favorite non-AW smilies in a single MS Word document.
