To Our Community:

To allow our users greater freedom in posting messages and interacting with others in the AuctionWatch message center, we have decided to transition to an unmoderated format effective November 1. In order to allow our users to maintain anonymity when posting, but prevent abuse of the message center, we will require that all users who wish to post within the message center provide a credit card for positive identification to our customer service representatives. Although the forums will not be actively moderated, we reserve the right to delete messages that violate our Terms of Use. Customer Service will still monitor and respond to customer service related questions in the AuctionWatch Services Forum.

Message center posting will continue to be free - credit cards will not be charged for message center use and all data will remain private. We will continue to allow users to read the message center without any registration requirements. Please visit our privacy policy if you have any questions about the use and protection data.

We would also like to thank our wonderful Moderator staff, Pat, Joice, Michelle, Marty, Sara, and Smitty, for their assistance in building and maintaining our Community over the past few years. We couldn’t have asked for a better moderator team!

Regards,

The AuctionWatch Staff

Please explain how posting a credit card will maintain anonymity. I don't get how it works.

"To allow our users greater freedom in posting messages and interacting with others"

Translation: We're cutting back on expenses and moderators are getting the axe.

BUMMER

They were one of the best parts of being here -- knowing that I (and others) would be kept in line.

After the well deserved bashing you [AW] took in the thread regarding your revised fee structure, I'm not a bit surprised by this move.

I've learned a great deal of valuable information over the years by lurking and posting; however, I spent too much time and energy doing it at the expense of my work. I'm heading outta here and won't let the door slam in my arse!

I would like to sincerely thank all the posters for great information and banter! It's been fun. You are all great! Good luck.

Hi smw,

Your anonymity will be maintained on the message boards despite entering your credit card information, which will not be available to other posters. We feel that this will encourage serious members to continue posting, and discourage those who might register for the purpose of disrupting the message boards.

BTW - I want to point out that there are no plans to charge for message center usage. The credit card info is for ID verification only.

Thanks,

Diana

Did Meg buy AW? Seems like the same decision making process here that went into Checkout and Auctions For America.

I agree ... there is absolutely no way I would ever give these guys my credit card number just so I can talk to others.

So long AW ...

That's just plain silly! As another person said, what about those who don't have credit cards? What about husbands and wives that only have one credit card and both want to post?

Requiring credit card info for verification should be illegal.

Way to ruin a good site.

In order to avoid the cost of running the message center and allow a speedy demise instead of having to show all members to the door, we will require that all users who wish to post within the message center provide a credit card for positive identification to our customer service representatives.

I'm absolutely heartbroken to see the moderator staff go. They've put up with one heck of a lot of abuse over the years & still managed to bring a smile when needed.

Good luck to ALL of you & you will greatly be missed..atleast by this poster. Sign in as regular folk & come back to join us.

Best to you all!

Really sorry to see the mods go and I mean that! They did some funny things along the way that had me LOL alot of times, showing the really human side of themselves. Now on this Credit Card thing. Before PayPal started charging, I warned everyone that PayPal would not always stay free because they were not Santa Claus but a business, and somewhere down the line, we would be paying and handsomly so. Now I am going to say it again! There is no need for a Credit Card to be listed anywhere to be able to p[ost on a message board. There is a plan down the road and I will bet you a new hat that the day will come that if you are not a paying member of AW and using their launching and hosting services, you will be required to pay a monthly fee which will include the board, to be able to use any of their services. Watch! And if you try to get in and not pay, they will already have your CC info on file to nab ya! I don't have a CC listed now and no one knows who I am, so whats the great revalation with listing a CC? Nope! There is a bottom line in here somewhere and will be interesting to watch when it is sprung on us.

Can I just send mail AW a copy of my driver's license, utility bill, and phone bill? That's proof enough isn't it?

Maybe they will use the CC to charge all the sellers using the auction image server without paying.
