Moderators...you have been great, all of you. I'm sorry you will be going. Good luck!

On the credit card issue..

And the fines will be?

$10 charged to the CC for trolling?

$15 charged to the credit card for being rude to another poster?

$20 for posting an auction ID?

$100 for bashing AW?

Come on Mark, this is silly. At least acknowledge that the long time posters have already proved they are serious and are not attempting to disrupt the boards. Grandfather in the long term posters and don't require credit card.

How does having a credit card on file guarantee the poster is not going to disrupt?

I don't like this a bit. Some people can get really mean and nasty on these boards. TOS means nothing if there is noone around to enforce them.

They can have my credit card number, I have an account that has a way low limit on it, just for internet stuff.

Good Grief. This old world is just changing too fast. THis is the first place I click on to see what is going on in the auction world and outside for that matter.

I agree that this is a step to eliminate the non-profitable boards.

This has been a great place to watch and participate in. I have enjoyed the debates and learned alot. Non of my family or friends do online auctions, so they can not relate to many of the topics.

I do not like Ebays boards. I like the format of this board.

One word comes to mind...
HUH?
You want a credit card number on file before a member can post? Strange!
And I agree that AW is shooting themselves in the foot again with this.

Who thought of this?
You say that you will not be charging to post, but when/if that changes can you reassure me that you will give 30 days notice before you would charge for it. When I started using AW it was free and it went from free to not very quickly (we had days if I remember correctly), so I would like some reassurance there.
You already have my number so it is no biggie to me, but I do like to get advanced (not last minute) notice of changes.
Thank you.

I've only been here a few months but have learned so much from everyone! And I've been selling for almost four years!

So where will people go? I'll still read the unmoderated boards, but I won't be posting because *everyone* wants my credit card # and I won't give it out indiscriminately.

I'll miss this place. :..)

If we are a faithful AW user and you have our credit card already, why would you need to have another to maintain anonimity? This is sounding like some of the ebay convoluted "logic" we get all the time. Doesn't make any sense or logic to anyone but the person who says it. As for the moderators, I have gotten answers to all my questions or problems on these boards from the moderators. Is that gone too? If boards are a problem, why not just limit them to AW users and make them useful? Why should we or AW care if everyone else goes away mad?????

OK Leeme get this straight --- for the maybe 2 or three times a month (max) I post on this site AW wants a credit card?

Credit Card to post on a chat board?

LOLOL this is some kind of trick or treat joke right?

WHAT? not a joke? hummmm... CC to post on a chat board, thinking - thinking - thinking - no thanks...I'll pass

I have sevearl credit cards, thats not a problem - the problem is that "posting" is in no way worth submiting a CC for!

How things change, I found AW years ago, after an ebay mass NARU. WOW - this place was fun, friendly and an overall refreshing breath of fresh air.

rustybore is gone, CC's make lousy verifacation anyway...

I am also sad to see the forums go. Even since I quit ebay I still enjoy reading these posts very much, but not enough to give out a credit card number. By the looks of the eBay message boards things are becoming volatile due to the checkout.

Bye to the Mods!

I was here before the ebay mass NARU and I agree it is a dumb move to require a CC to post here.

Anyone who wants to cause trouble can easily do so with all the different cards out there.

Hi rgrem - if you are an AuctionWatch user and you already have a credit card on file, you do not need to enter another one. The one you have on file already will suffice!

Everyone - note that we do not plan to charge a fee to use the message center. Even if we decided to go down that route at some point, we would give you plenty of notice beforehand - but I reiterate, there are no plans to charge for message center usage.

Also, although the boards will not be actively moderated, we do expect our users to abide by the terms outlined in our User Agreement with regards to the message center. We reserve the right to enforce violations of the UA.

Thanks!

Diana

fees to post are not the issue --- CC verifacation to post is...

Quite frankly, "posting" just isn't worth even the few moments to enter your CC number...

I don't post here very often. This inane requirement for a credit card # to post messages ensures I won't post again. Is this the month for craziness on various auction and auction related sites? Ridiculous....

Best wishes to the moderators!

(Not antiquefreak on ebay) and not antiquefreak on the AW board again. Adios.

I don't think that this is a direct effort to get rid of the Message Center. I would guess it is a cost cutting move, to eliminate the perceived need for paid Moderators, and focus the business more on paid services. And too, it is not cheap for AW, or any listing service, to make the almost weekly format changes to keep up with eBay.

If the reason is a cost cutting measure, I am very sorry that the Moderators will be out a job. The Moderators have taken a lot of abuse, and just plain crap from a whole lot of people during the past 3 years. ( I think it was in the Fall of 98?). Most have exhibited patience and tried to be even handed.

I do however think it would be in AW's best interest to accept other forms of identification, such as a utility bill. Only allowing people to post who have a credit card is a rather parochial view of the world, and could be called elitist, and will greatly limit the exchange.

It is really too bad, but I won't miss the 10 cookies I had to accept to post this message, and then have to delete when I leave the site.

Hi Blanche, Hope to "see" you there.

I certainly won't be registering a credit card to post.

I'll still read and see if the content remains worthwhile.

I have my doubts about the solvency of the company though. If you are using AuctionManager to make your living, you might want to consider something else soon.

Although I can certainly see the reason behind wanting users on an unmoderated [to a degree] board to be verified, asking for a CC will mean the end of the EO, as well as some of the other boards here at AW.

IMO these boards have been a VERY good form of advertising for AW, and in light of the recent financial struggles most online sites are facing today, I hope AW will reconsider this move.

I love the AW forums, but not enough to give you my CC.

Wow, whatta move! We had a hunch the moderators would get canned the way AuctionWatch was cost-cutting everywhere else. It is a smart business move if they want to survive. Best wishes to the moderators. Hope they found other roles for you all. What a ROUGH economy! I don't like the CC idea one bit and I'll pass. Not worth it to give CC info just to post on a message board. There are too many other boards one can frequent without the same restrictions, although none quite compare to this one. It's been loads of fun learning from all the great posters on this board. Will miss the interaction and all the great advice. Wish everyone all the best and much success in the future! Goodbye

Having your card on file will make it easier for them when they do begin charging, and there is no doubt in my mind they will.

This must be the AW way of saying
"we're closing the message center".
What will the 3 users who give a credit card to chat even talk about after the first day?

Good bye AW.
The Message Center BROUGHT you your customers.
You WILL NOT turn around new paying customers.
When current customers start to fall off, there will be no NEW users to replace them.

Smart.
