Wanting to help since we will need a place to go (for those not wanting to CC Verify.)

Look at Y! clubs, take the two words of this site reversed. Hoping this will at least help in the short term anyway, we'll see!

All posters and moderators here have been a great benefit!

My impression of this CC move is that AW wants to limit the posting on their boards to the users of their paid services. They certainly have the right to do that but I think they're going to loose many long term posters who have been helpful to the online auction users that frequent these boards as well as any new posters. I believe the shared knowledge in the eBay Outlook Forum along with the other AW forums is a huge asset and a draw for AW which helps them obtain new members for their paid services. The only reason I come to this site is to benefit from the vast knowledge that's been shared here by others and, in return, to offer any useful info that I have which could be of benefit. In short, the exchange of information is what makes AW a worthwhile site to frequent but, IMO, that will definitely suffer with the CC posting requirement.

As some of you may already know, I do some volunteer work with a few of the privacy organizations and there is one thing that I've learned from that association: once your info is in a dotcom's database it is always in that database. That along with the partner, affiliate, advertiser "sharing" is the main reason I do not give out my personal banking info or CC to ANY dotcom and I'm not planning on starting now just so I can post on a chat board. LOL

SMW/Susan, hey it's good to "see" you and I will be looking for you at the other place. I've missed our friendly, fun and serious discussions.

Blanche

Although I've not been around much this summer, I too will miss the moderators. The explanation given by AW admin is laughable. I see this as solely an economic move. I'll be amazed if the boards stay anywhere close to as civil as they (usually) are with the moderators around.

Bye guys and gals. Best Wishes!

Greetings Earthlings,

Required CC just to post?!?!?!

I've been coming here for years and it had become apparent that on most days this was one of the more useful sites for the online auction seller to gather information, support, comradery and share ideas and insights. In fact I believe this message forum bore irtself to be the only real way for folks from all over the country/ies who endeaver within a common, yet disconnected realm of interest to make contact and embrace some form of unity and family.

I can't imagine that the lords at AW can't see that the message boards, particularly the outlook, is the portal for thousands of would be sellers to be introduced to the services that generate income for AW. This is the doorway, the introduction, the first place people come which exposes them to the hundreds of unknowing ambassadors who connect them to a world of tools and information that exists for their benefit. And now the geniuses that manage it are thoughtlessly slamming that door, or at best requiring a "password" or impersonal hoop to jump through just to get in and participate. They're making it exclusive.

Simply astonishing. I am getting a better grip on why these internet companies are dropping faster than flying Walenda's.

I personally don't have a credit card, I don't believe in them, I see them as just another way for corporate America to budger there way into and control the financial lives of people. To gather personal information and get a "piece" of every transaction that person makes in their daily lives (kind of like ebay). To profit from the the most basic necessities. I want no part of it, and I'll "suffer" whatever small consequences that it bears, like not being able to post on a message board.

I have referred dozens and dozens of people to these boards over the years. I know that many have gone on to use AW tools and services. I feel I've offered as much as I've taken here, though I'm also sure many of you could care less what I think.

I will lose a valued source of info and support.
AW is losing a thoughtful and helpful poster and dozens and dozens of future recommendations and certain customers.
The selling community is losing a valuable resource.

Everyone loses on this. Simply astounding.

Thanks to the moderators who took it on the chin for these losers and then got dumped. I can only hope that you were offered some other positions at AW for your valuable work and efforts, but somehow I doubt it.

So long everyone, thanks (to most of you) for your years of helpful posts.

Peace and love to all the thoughtful humans whom I've encountered here, The rest of you....well...you know the drill.

When I first began selling on eBay several years ago, the one thing that prevented me from making more mistakes and errors than I did was the advice of the good folks here at the eBay Outlook.

New sellers will have to look for some other friendly environment.

I can't imagine AW receiving more than a couple of dozen credit card numbers from message board posters.

Goodbye everyone.... Thanks for the advice, answers, secrets, jokes and anecdotes about running an online auction.

Why does this smell like AFA where you have to use Billpoint? Or PayPal's always free?

If you want to cut staff and keep it free of trolls, there are better ways to do so.

Sorry, I don't care to list a CC just to post on a message board. I'll check in from time to time to see what's going on. I always liked to come here because you always got another side to what was going on in the Ebay world. People were not afraid to post on here things that might have gotten pulled over on Ebay.

I'll miss you'all. Good luck.

Thanks Moderators...loved some of the decisions, laughed at others.
Too bad you have been "downsized."

I am not giving my credit card to post on a board.

Buh bye

[email protected]

if there is another board, I would like to know, because there are a lot of people who I learn a lot from.

Shame on you AW.

. Even if we decided to go down that route at some point, we would give you plenty of notice beforehand

This is what you agree to if you give your CC info to AW:

AuctionWatch may change the Fees Policy effective seven days after those changes have been posted on our website and may add new fees effective immediately upon posting the new fees.

UNBELIEVABLE When I first read this, I honestly thought it was a prank!!!! C'Mon, AW, this is unbelievable. I can understand charging for services......as a lot of the sites are now...but this message board was a very positive part of your site and I, along with others, learned a LOT here. I enjoyed the postings and was even able to contribute some myself. I am really bummed to lose this board but giving a CC number just to post on the boards is ridiculous. And so is the reason given for this stupid move. I don't see where a credit card proves your "seriousness" on this board [digust]
If anyone knows where your going to go next , please email me at [email protected] and let me know if a new board pops up.....as I am sure this will be the final swan song for this one after this.....<sigh>

I can't believe it! This board has been an invaluable source of information for me. I don't post much but I read like crazy.

Can another board be made at one of those free "make your own" board sites?

Can everyone just go over to a new board and continue on with all the wonderful help and info?

Or has someone already formed a new board? Who can I email about this for the url?

*sob* and thank you!

This is the best board. I hate having to see everyone go. You have all been my teachers and board friends. Will anyone be around Nov. 1 besides me? Or will I be bored because I'll be talking to myself?

I am truly sorry to see this happening.
In addition to having learned soooo much from the great people here, I found comfort in having the mods around. It will not be the same without you.

Good Luck and Best Wishes to you all.

This is so sad.

I've never heard of this idea. Interesting, but the percentage of people willing to do it will probably be 5 percent of your posters.

The end won't justify the means.

Asking for CC info, big mistake. What other forms of ID will you accept? If money is not being exchanged, why in the world would you require a CC.
How about a copy of my drivers license, will that do?

A great big hug and thank you to all of the moderators for putting up with us all, but you can count me in with those who refuse to use a CC as a form of ID.
I may lurk for a while, but I won't be posting.
Adios.

When they removed eBay from the search results, we knew the end was INEVITABLE.

When they agreed to pay the ridiculous fees for eBay's API "preferred partner" program, we knew the end was NEAR (and costs to users would become outrageous, very quickly).

When they require a credit card for posting on the chat boards? (the only thing left that brought new potential users to the site). "BYE-BYE".

All is not lost YET!

Go to the AW round Table thread and leave your email address. I guess we will either discuss or be sent a notice of another or others we can meet at (without a credit card!)
