The ebay opt-out for checkout is now working. The link can be found at the top of your selling page on My Ebay.

The light at the end of the tunnel will turn out to be an oncoming train.

paypal took my cash rebate away from me becasue they said they found me offering checkout,if thats so,it has to be an old item relisted before ebay made changes.
now i am getting sick of paypal tactic, fighting with billpoint every step of the way,and we are being caught in the middle.
i dont need paypal,i go along with my customers who use paypal.

Everytime I list an item it seems the eBay check out options are different. With the listing tonight, I don't know if I'm in or out of check out.

Just checked out of Checkout! Now, let's see if it really works or just gums up the system even more.

I checked out too, what a relief! I have never taken checkout, but I've had so much confusion over it, everyday someone asks me what to do next with checkout, even though I have it in my listings that I don't take it.

Does anyone know if Auctionwatch is now compatiable to work when listing an auction now that the checkout is truly optional?

I haven't listed using Auctionwatch since before the checkout mess. As I understand then you don't need to fill in any info about checkout in the checkout area. I have changed my preferences at My eBay to opt out so is Auctionwatch ready to go with this change?

Thanks

Sandy

I went to the link provided and turned off checkout. I also noticed that they have my zipcode wrong so I changed it. But I keep going in circles and each time I come back the Yes box is checked again and the zipcode is wrong again.

This is the second time that ebay has had the wrong address for me.

I just tried it again. Only this time someone was looking over my shoulder and when he saw the wrong zipcode he cursed ebay. And now it works!

Thanks for the link.

I went back and checked and now I find that I am "opted in" again to accept checkout. My zipcode is wrong again also. Is this happening to anyone else?

I removed all my contact info (name, address, etc) and clicked the submit button. I signed out and signed in again and it just goes back to the Yes feature with all my (wrong) contact info back in there.

kiara,

try it with a different browser (i.e., netscape instead of explorer).

Hmmmm.....I tried it with Netscape and also with Explorer. I tried it from two different computers also. It lets me check out but when I come back again I am checked in again and still with the wrong zipcode.

I am beginning to feel like the roach in the motel.

I think I am going to keep the checkout option I find its working very well once I got a way to include the shipping to it.

Buyers are Buying more often and paying faster since checkout started I'm getting a better turn over with Buy it now then I was just running auctions for 7 and 10 days..

PAINSS:

All I can tell you is to login to your My Ebay page and use "Update Checkout Preferences" from there.

If you aren't seeing it, got to your Preferences page and scroll down to your list of Seller Preferences.

btw, it ain't a perfect world. Some get the "feature" before others do.

Good luck!

....Mike

Here I thought it was just me that was totally irritated by Checkout. I started warning buyers that I'd charge 'em a buck if they used it instead of waiting for AW where it's explained completely.

Figure ebay will threaten me if they find out, but I updated my Checkout Preferences and hope never to see it again...

There are thousands that are not using checkout. I just conducted a search on eBay using the words No checkout with the titles & descriptions block checked and came up with
163912 auctions.

I opted out but does this mean eBay will still send the end of auction notice that basically tells buyers to use Checkout and shipping is free?

The darn checkout is back. Just had a new user to use it. I changed my preference to get rid of this thing. This was on some auctions that were relists.Maybe that is the reason..If it comes back I will just die.

I really like Checkout, as do other sellers with whom I network. We are all having 100% sell rates, or close to 100%. We are all specialists within the antique sector. I didn't want my customers to be confused, so I started up with Checkout when it was implemented, never had one confused customer. The number of customers who go through Checkout are around 50 to 90% per run of auctions, which is some indication of how my customers like it. In fact, not one customer has said one single negative thing about it, only gave praise.

Stopwhining made a correct assessment, there is this big battle going on between eBay and Paypal and sellers are foolishly taking sides, to the detriment of their bottom line. If you go over to the boards on eBay, it is like all of these zero feedback ids keep posting topics about how much they hate Checkout because it supports Billpoint and how they refuse to sell or buy on eBay, yet there they are posting messages. One of my friends thinks that many of the posting ids are affiliated with Paypal, trying to get sellers to believe that Checkout and Billpoint are bad ideas. It makes sense in a way because Paypal has to gain market share some how.

The fact is that there are a large number of bidders who click on eBay Payments when they do their searches because that is how they want to pay. The sellers who only offer Paypal miss having their auctions show up in those bidders' searches. They have effectively eliminated an entire category of buyers as being potential customers.

I can tell you what my customers have said as to why they like Checkout:

1. With a few clicks, shipping information and payment is sent to the seller.

2. They don't have to type the same information over and over to all of the different sellers.

3. They are not forced to go to another web site and fill out a form, or fill out an email form, which some sellers like to mandate to their buyers in order to complete the transaction.

4. They are not forced to go to another web site and pay with another payment service, consuming more of their time in filing out lines with more information.

5. They can get access to the transaction information by clicking into Checkout Summary, which means for the busy professional who has one email address at work and one at home they don't have to worry about leaving information they need on the work computer when they go home at night. In the same sense, they can log on to any computer and gain access, which they find helpful when they travel or are away from their main computer.

6. They like the shipping information being stated in clear terms in the Checkout Boxes, easy for them to find on the auction pages, rather than buried in the text of non-Checkout auctions or not stated at all.

I estimate that about 50% of my customers who used Checkout did it within one hour of the close of the auction, the majority of them paying with Billpoint, a smaller percentage with Paypal, an even smaller percentage with checks. The rest of the Checkout customers use it within 24 hours. I have less emails to contend with because I wait a few hours after the auctions have ended, download my email and see who has paid. I send Payment Received notices to the Checkout customers who paid, thus eliminating the EOA email.

As a buyer, I've gone through Checkout about six times now. Clicked and paid for the auction, didn't have to wait until the seller sent me an email, then respond to the seller asking for a Billpoint invoice, then wait again for the invoice.

The sellers with whom I network like it for the same reasons, are delighted with the system.

I will be honest. We think we are doing well with our Christmas season auctions because while other sellers are focused on disliking Checkout, not even bothering to try it, and focused on only offering Paypal, the buyers are clicking into our auctions and bidding. It is almost like a Christmas present from eBay to us, a way to make our auctions more distinctive and buyer friendly, a way to stand out from the millions of other auctions on eBay.
