hotcupoftea, I agree with you on this. When ebay first launched Checkout - like many sellers - I was really ticked off at how they made it mandatory. But since it was mandatory, I tried it out and all my transactions ran smoothly. However, when they made it optional - like many sellers - I opted out in favor of my old system. But then I thought about how I really didn't have any problems with it earlier and decided to give it another try. I still haven't had any problems, or received any emails from customers who were confused by Checkout. A lot of them still use it even if just to notify me that they're sending a check. I went out on a limb with some book sales and permitted them to edit Checkout so they can choose between Priority and Media Mail, and the buyers have had no problem in changing the mail rates.
It does seem to be popular with the buyers, and I can see why Paypal is worried. I've offered both major online payment services for a couple years, and my Paypal payments always outnumbered my Billpoint payments by about a four to one ratio. Suddenly that ratio is reversed.
