Thanks Mcjane. What gorgeous pictures you take. I hope mine come out half as good. Now maybe I can get serious about selling. I stuck to the items that I could scan and now with this camera I can sell about everying. Wow, I am going to try and capture a picture of a bird like that. We have a feeder just outside by our Patio but I have to wait until I get a fancy bird. I sure hope a Cardinal comes. Thanks everyone, I appreciate all of the expertise that everyone has and is willing to share. This is a good community.

Happy New Year

Well, here's a downturn for the Sony Maciva. Had mine for 1 1/2 years and now it's broken. LED screen is out. Totally bright and white and unuseable. Compare cameras. I just bought the Nikon Cool Pix 995 and I have to say it's better good luck.

I use a Nikon Coolpix 950 and couldn't be happier. It takes absolutely great closeups and with a 128MB flash card will hold more pictures than I've ever taken at one time. I use Irfanview32 to edit for eBay and the two make a winning combination in my opinion.

Scskat12: I think Sony has a flat rate repair service that will fix ANY mavica for $140.00.
The floppy on my FD73 went after about a year and they had it repaired in a matter of days.

I, too, love the Mavica. Put a couple of disks in your pocket and you can shoot forever, without fear of filling up the little chip. Then you can just put the disk in your computer and you're ready.

I also like that I can make copies easily for friends (when not using it for auctions) and clear a disk faster than with my computer.

When you put your disk in the computer, can you transfer (or copy) ALL of the jpg's in just a few clicks somehow?, or rather do you have to move them onto hard drive 1 pic at a time?

thanx for your help

yes you can go to edit select all and copy all to hard disk
or just highlight them all and do a controll c. go to your folder on your c drive and do a controll v
if you only want to copy a few say 10 you have to do them one at a time ...at least I have never figured away to copy part of the disk

spock here......

I always work out of Explore (right click start, click Explore), and this shows all drives and folders. Click the 3.5 drive, and if you have Win98 or newer you can go to 'View" as 'Web Page' and get thumbs of the pics on the disk.

You also just drag and drop the files off the 3.5 to wherever you want or just open them from the 3.5, edit them, and then save them on your HD.

mrspock & REAMOND ..
thanks for your input ... it sounds to me as if the mavicas are surely the fastest way to get your pics onto the computer [and that is the aspect i've been wanting to research in getting a new camera] of course better clarity [high res] was for sure what we're looking for too .... been using a cheapie kodak dc25 for 4 years now, and it is so S L O W .... i ought to be able to buy a mavica and have it pay for itself in the sheer number of [more] auctions posted in any given time period. ....

Thanks for everybody's 2 cents worth ... i really appreciate it ...

I have a question concerning the difference between the FD73 & FD75.

I see a lot of you have the FD73 and the pictures shown here from that camera are excellent.

I need to be able to do close-ups and I will only use the camera for web/auctions.

I went to the Sony site and they have a FD75 but it shows it does NOT have macro features! Is this just an oversite on their list of features? It shows auto-focus macro capabilities on several of it's comparably priced models, just not this one.

However, when I went to eBay almost everyone auctioning one says "auto-focus macro feature" somewhere in their copy.

Who is right?

If I add a 2X + lense (I see them for sell listed as "close-up" lenses) or a wide angle lens (see them listed as able to do really close focusing as well as the wide angle) will that work even if it does not have auto-focus macro features?

I can't afford to buy a FD75 and then discover I reallllly should have gotten a FD73! I can get a FD75 new, but seems I'll have to go to used if I want a FD73. I would rather have new but not if it won't do what I need.

Thanks-
Sulyn

i have a sony mavica as well, but i have heard sony is phasing out the mavica line and replacing it with cybershot.that could explain prices dropping.
one thing which is not mentioned here on why folks like mavica is that some of us do use it mostly for selling in cyberspace, taking photos is just one of the many tasks involved in selling and the operations set up usually in a part of our home,as long as it integrates well into our operation -less clutters, less cables to trip over, cheap affordable floppy etc, thats good reason for us amateurs.
i have seen some facny auction houses use sony mavica too!!
my only concern is that i need to upgrade my sony as it does not zoom,if sony is phasing out mavica line, should we upgrade to cybershot or should we upgrade to a more powerful dinosaur??
