Harry: can you produce valid 2D indica on the 300dpi thermal labels? I actually looked at your software before and I think my LP2642 was on the not-supported list for printing postage. =(

I had to go through the EPL language reference to make up the lables, I'm pretty sure the printer has built-in support for 2D codes

It will work fine. Printers below 200 dpi start to give problems, but we have tested the Eltrons and both the 2D and 1D barcodes scan fine.

We didn't to the EPL language interface yet -- we have the documentation. I've been told by the folks at Zebra/Etron that the 2D PDF417 is indeed resident. For now, we are just having folks download the conventional Windows driver on the Zebra web site. Both the EPL and Windows driver can exist on the same PC, and they are supposed to have an enhanced Windows driver (with EPL passthrough commands) available in a month or so (that's why we are waiting before doing the EPL interface).

Bottom line: just download the Windows driver from the Zebra site and it will work fine with Endicia. Email me directly when you are ready and I'll Email back a DAZzle layout which is completely configured for this printer.

BTW, there is a printer driver option for the Eltron which allows you to tweak the "density" of the printing. Basically, it controls the print head temperature. We have been boosting that a bit over the default to get nice dark barcodes.

I have not had problems with any of the clerks taking my packages. I have them all ready to go ... they just need the postage on them.

I wait my turn patiently ... and expect others to do so, also.

My packages are all ready ... taped, have all the forms filled out and attached, and have the electronic dc attached ... glue sticks work wonders with plain ole paper ... covered with strapping tape.

I just keep wondering ... when is the clerk behind the window gonna figure out I went out with her hubby in my younger days?

tee hee hee

Mrssantaclaus: SO it was your packages I saw floating down the river, being followed by an angry mail clerk mumbling something about her husband and that no good so and so? Thanks for the info.

I took my first preprinted PM Label with free DC to the PO this week. They didn't know how to process it at first, but figured it out, checked to see if the mailman would be able to scan it, and they were real nice about it.

Thanks to all of you for this information!!!

After going through page after page of this thread, I have one simple solution for all the problems you shippers are having with the USPS: UPS!!! Their charges are only a bit higher than the USPS, insurance is included on all items up to $100, they will pick up any number of packages at your place of business for as little as $5.00 per week and you can track every package! No more lugging packages to your car, dragging them into the post office and waiting in line forever. You will also never again have to deal with surly government employees on the verge of going postal! There's a reason UPS is a bit more expensive than the USPS: BETTER SERVICE!!

Just for fun, I did a cost comparison, a 4 pound package worth and insured for $40, sent from Los Angeles to New York.

Cheapest Rate USPS: $7.15
Cheapest Rate UPS: $8.84

Of course, you could do private insurance like UPIC, that could reduce the cost of the USPS package to $6.55

This is also by taking the package to a UPS counter, which in my experience is a worse experience than the USPS. I remember one particular clerk who actually opened up my boxes to check my packing of items...

I'm not a fan of the USPS, but it is currently cheaper on smaller packages like these, about 25% less expensive.

I use three different Post Offices, none of them care how many packages we take to them. The biggest problem we have is these damn old battle axes wanting to see every stamp in the Post Office! One wanted 300 stamps in a wedding theme, just put a skunk on the invitations-WHO CARES!

If you aren't using Endicia you are missing the boat...time is money, I can't believe people are still standing in line for a 1/2 hour or longer to mail packages, let alone several times a week. I've been there, I know both sides of the fence...and the grass is greener with Endicia...
My Post Office usually has a line of cars going from the parking lot...all the way out to the highway...takes 10 minutes just to get into the front parking lot...me? NOT!!...I pass on the right side and skip right around to the back...pull up to the loading dock, and usually there is even a Postal worker there who helps me unload the packages...I'm out of there in 2 minutes and less...
I wanted to share a tip for those people who are using Endicia that can save you time and get your stamps printed fast...I use Channel Advisor..., as I process my payments I print and archive the invoices.
After weighing the corresponding package on the scale I write the weight on the invoice and tape it to the package...repeat the process until all items are packed...each invoice is numbered, ie..#368, #385 and so on...go to your archived invoices and select each invoice you have attached to the package that you plan to ship...after selecting each invoice, there is an option to click that says "print shipping labels"...click on this button and a web page will appear with every name and address taken from each invoice you selected...the cool thing about this is if you don't know, all you have to do is hightlight the name/address, right click with your mouse button, click on COPY and daadaa!...when you use the COPY function with the Endicia software, the name and address copies over into the Endicia software and is automatically verified...all you have to do now is select the weight and mail class, then print. The COPY function saves you so much time and eliminates having to type each address for every stamp you print...hope this helps.
