"We include the word "handling" in all of our auctions and it doesn't stop people from bidding"

But HOW do you really know this? You have no way of knowing how many people would have bid and did not because of that. It's like running a retail store, and smoking in the store. You can say it does not affect business, because people are still coming into the store. How many are leaving though because of the cigarette smoke? You just can not know (unless they tell you specifically, and that is VERY unlikely)

I do know that for me, the reverse is true: I have buyers who seek me out BECAUSE my shipping charges are (to them) so reasonable. And I've had many emails and feedback comments to this effect.

I think most buyers do notice this stuff, and do base their purchasing at least in part on what they perceive to be reasonable shipping and acceptable terms.

How many times have we seen threads about demanding or threatening TOS turning buyers off? Ditto with auctions where shipping isn't mentioned in the listing (and turns out to be exhorbitant) or is shown in such a way as to make you think you're getting priority mail when you're not. Or its just plain too much.

All I'm saying is once you set a one cent price on an item, you have killed the market for that item which means you also take yourself out.$2.90 is gouging when it cost $1.03 to mail it.Now on clocks and leather items they really get out of hand.On all the common items that there are tons of listings for on E-Bay,we have played the game I'll list it cheaper until we now have no market for those items and never will again.I'm not worrying about the adapt or die theory,I just sell these items in my area where I still make a good profit.I can understand why so many are staying with their own Web Site or even going back to their own store.
