Ebay is pretty much killing half.com. Sales have steadily dropped since Ebay took over. I believe that they will screw up the paypal service also. It was real nice of Paypal to sell us out. I have tried to use billpoint and found it riddled with problems. I was going to put paypal on my web site. I even go the web pages all set up with the paypal stuff. Now I will stick with CCNow. The fees are higher but they have a nice setup and they run pretty smooth.

I don't trust Ebay for reliablity etc. . . In the mean time I will be looking and watching for another good on-line pay service for the auctions as I will be cancelling my account the day ebay takes over. If I have to I will pay the higher price to CCnow for the auctions also.

This is going to be very interesting. What is Ebay going to do with all the frozen accounts that Paypal had no right to freeze?

And how about accounts like mine that are at a negative balance because Paypal allowed one of their accounts to fraud me by giving them their money back after they got the item.

Ebay recognized that the intended party got the item but Paypal an independent company still allowed them to fraud me. Now that Ebay has Paypal, Ebay already said the buyer should not have received the funds back.

Is Ebay going to reverse some of Paypal wrong or illegal choices they made?

And for us that are in the class action lawsuits against Paypal for their horrible service? Is Ebay buying the upset customers also?

"PayPal also brings other problems to the table. A few states have begun to question whether the business constitutes illegal banking or money-transmitting services. PayPal also faces several class-action lawsuits from customers who claim the company illegally froze their accounts."

"eBay's biggest goal right now should be improving PayPal's somewhat poor reputation for customer service, said Forrester Research retail analyst Carrie Johnson. "PayPal users have a love-hate relationship with the service mostly because of customer service problems," she said. "PayPal has had so many problems with customer service in terms of being difficult to reach, etc. If eBay can put a little muscle behind the service, PayPal users will be pleased, as opposed to being alienated or frustrated by the change."

With this consolidation, you can all but count on fee increases in the future for Paypal account holders, as there will be no formidable competion to keep pricing in line.

I just want to keep my Billpoint rates. PayPal for me is quite a bit higher.

Last one left is yahoo auctions. When they are gone ebay has the market and can do whatever they want whenever they want.

eBay already does whatever it wants to whoever it wants ... well, at least those who are willing to bend over.

The most current version of the eBay Policies and Procedures has officially surpassed the United States Codes & Statutes in both scope and sheer physical size, and it gets more air time that any other law of any other land.

In anticipation of the total takeover, I suggest you buy or borrow the "Berlitz Easy Guide to Learing How to Speak eBayanese" if you want to survive. You might be able to find a copy of this reference book on eB ... aw, never mind

Here's the real "Truth" ... the total takeover will happen before 2012.

I just heard this news myself. I have had
ZERO problems with PayPal customer service
(I have had more than a few problems with
PayPal customers though). The few times I've
had to deal with them all went smoothly and
quickly. Their toll free phone line is a
GREAT way to resolve problems and e-mail,
when it was available, was pretty good too.
I do not like their new web form service,
but I just skip it and make the phone call...

I have had very few good experiences with
"eBay customer support" [sic]. I refused
to sign up for Billpoint because of this.
Heck, I've only had 2 people since I signed
up for eBay in August, 2001, even ask if I
accepted eBay's payment system anyway (out
of 300+ people buying)!!!

This is a black day for the on-line auction
community. I will wait and see what changes
are made before deciding on what to do. I'm
not happy about this though. I might have
to go back to no on-line payments, which
would stink as 70%+ now use PayPal to pay me.

Safe PayPal is NOT an oxymoron!

Do not link it to your credit card! Do not
link it to your savings account! Do not let
money sit in your PayPal account very long!

Get a non-interest checking account and ONLY
move money into the account to use to pay
bills or use PayPal. It works for me! I
never leave more than $30 in my PayPal account,
so I can't be screwed out of more than $30,
and I write checks and mail bills right
after I move money into the checking account
(from savings or PayPal), so I limit my
exposure there. Good luck!

I guess we will just have to sit back and see how it plays out. I'm not going to worry about it or assume the worst. This could be a good thing.

Andale is next to be acquired by eBay. One million users and the free counters on eBay. AW is a joke with only 100,000 users. With Andale in the eBay fold they can work to eliminate AW and Spare Dollar with constant minor changes to the listing processes that AW & SD will never be able to keep up with. When they are gone no one else will attempt to create a third party listing service and more money for ebay.

jimtaxi: both AW & SD subscribe to eBay's API, so launching auctions should be very SMOOTH, as those MINOR CHANGES every 6 minutes that feeBay throws out there DOES NOT affect these sites -- unless their programmers are not up to snuff

WHAT will happen is that any site that won't ante up for the API will eventually be frozen out

lol i sure he is more than happy once he dumps his stock options......also pretty smart of ebay to wait for the stock price to come down it went to $30 on speculation this would happen they let it drop 33% then stepped in....

I am hoping McBay doesn't change PayPal. I've used PayPal since they started, and never had a problem. I have the business account, and a debit card for my PayPal account, also PayPal Preferred.

I LOVE it. I can get paid at 10 a.m. for an auction, and spend the money at 11 a.m. And if I use the card, I get a rebate. No waiting days to get my funds, like Billpoint.

The online account is magnificent. Your debits and credits are posted instantly.

I tend to worry when the biggies like eBay start gobbling up everything in sight, and running the competition out of business. Kinda like Wal-Mart. I fear for what McBay will do to the fees...

Added:

As to customer service, PayPal's has been very good. I've used it repeatedly, and it has been quick, friendly, and helpful. McBay's, as we all know, is non-existent - unless you are one of the chosen few - a power seller.

I thought Andale WAS part of McBay! They sure encourage using Andale... I don't like Andale. Too high priced, and not user friendly at all. AW is not perfect, but a lot easier than Andale. The pix system in AW is MUCH better.

We'll see how it goes, which won't be before the end of the year. But the alternatives are iffy. C2it seems a pain, and BidPay is a ripoff for the buyer in my book, though I accept it.

And after all E-Bay has done to try to keep people from using Paypal.I wish E-Bay would buy up Matshitsusta where I work,I don't think either one could screw up the other any worse.Poor Sears don't have a clue what they are in for.We make all their vacuums.
