I took the plunge and became an eBay seller about a month and a half ago ... even got a credit card so I could sell in addition to buying.

I did really well ... "sold" 27 items for a total of just under $300.00 in the first 7 days. Now, 31 days later, I have received payment for a grand total of 5 of these. The other buyers have kinda disappeared into the ether (except for one who says he forgot to include my Postal Code and his payment was returned to him ... still waiting for the revised envelope 3 weeks later)

Now I know what you guys mean when you talk about deadbeats

22 items not paid for in the first month!
That's more NPB's than I've had in 3 years!
Look on the Bright Side!
Hopefully you've gotten them all out of the way in the first month.
Now all the rest of your deals will go smooth!
Yeah Right!

It's not worth the hassle to fill out a bunch of forms to get the listing/selling fees credited to my account ... eBay can be very obtuse when trying to do business with them and I would rather not have to go through that for a few bucks.

I'll chalk this up to experience and go back to buying only

I don't think I am allowed to list them here JACK, but suffice it to say that more than one of them has feedback close to 100. Most of them are new eBay buyers ... probably kids with nothing to do before they have to back to school. Summer break is too damn long for these brats

RB - I'm not a big time seller by no means. I do a little just for fun. Like you I was strictly a buyer. I have never had a buyer not pay me. I have had to send two reminders through ebay and they did pay. I would hate for you to give up too quickly. It's just too much fun! Go through the process on these bidders and get your money. You will get paid on most if not all. You just happened to get several at one time what others get spread out.

Look over your tos and make changes if necessary. Email the boogers and tell them they have till the next morning to come through and if they don't, you file for FVF.

Just get with it and do it. You'll be glad later on - I promise!

RB,
File an NPB on each of them. A few will come through with the money. For the ones that don't, file for FVF and help expedite their departure from Ebay. Don't even consider neg feedback. It doesn't do a bit of good, and it opens you to a retalliatory neg. If every seller would file for FVF instead of running to the neg button, no deadbeat would have more than 2 nonpay negs on his record before he gets the boot.

RB has been kicked off of ebay so many times, it will make your head spin. I don't believe for a second that he even made another account. If he had, we would have known about it a long time ago. And lets say he did and didn't say anything, he wouldn't put that he is from Canada in his listings letting the bidders know where he is. This is because the shipping cost from Canada to the US is super high.
And lastly, what did he sell 27 of? This has been the slowest auction season in probably 3 years.
There are a lot of holes in this post.

Jackswebb,
Sorry, I thought you knew. JB has absolutely nothing to do with Ebay or any other auction site. He's been kicked off all of them and openly admits to bottomfeeding. We keep him around here as our resident troll. Sometimes these threads get a little intense and we need a little comic relief, and JB does an admirable job of it. Relax, nobody takes him serious any more.

Boy, this is a tough group ... especially that "buzzzoon" critter. Can't even plagiarize properly.

I have admitted that I was NARU'd by eBay in the past. That's a fact and I have never tried to hide it.

I have also stated here and in many other forums that I have no use for a credit card ( remember "meow" ? )

I have been an eBay buyer since that venue began ... way back before many of you even knew how to turn a PC on. I even did some selling way back then. Because of my thing about not wanting a credit card, when eBay changed the rules, I could not sell anymore (remember also that I am not a US resident - it's a bit tougher for us to meet the rules).

A while back, I broke down and got a credit card so I could sell on eBay ( not from the infamous and sleazy Capital One though! ). That's no secret either either if anyone wants to be really anal and do proper research.

I listed about 70 items, all at starting bids that were considerably lower than my "competitors". A total of 27 of these items sold, and so far (30+ days later), only 5 have been paid for. Consequently, I do not wish to waste any more time trying to sell my stuff on eBay - it seems to attract the deadbeats

wrt to doing the NPB thing, the total I am out including listing and "selling" fees amounts to less than $50.00. To me, I'll spend that $50.00 to save the amount of time and frustration it will involve to track these varmits down and get eBay to credit my account. I made a decent profit on the 5 items that have been paid for so it's no big deal.

I have learned what many sellers here have been whinging about for some time ... there are deadbeats on eBay. I will simply go back to selling my stuff the old fashioned way. It takes a little more effort but I do get paid!

I will, however, continue to buy on eBay. There's still a lot of DVDs that are not available in Canada, and that I want to add to my collection, and I still have some dough. I'm looking for the CNN "America Remembers" DVD if anyone cares to list it. I just called CNN and they don't ship this one to Canada. I'd also like the free TIME DVD that comes with it.

So, DVD sellers ... list it and I will come.

By the way caffe, there's only 2 'z' in Buzzoon.

Cool ... keep an eye on them. You'll finally be able to find out who I really am if I win one

edited to add: I just checked them out. None of these listings include the special TIME DVD that comes with the CNN purchase. CNN are selling both DVDs for $16.95 US. When I called them (1-800-541-8300), they told me that I could buy "America Remembers" at Amazon.com, but it might not include the TIME freebie.

I suspect we're going to see some separate listings for the TIME special ... sellers will be delighted to pay $16.95 for two DVDs when they order from CNN, and sell each one of them separately for $20+ each on eBay.

DVD Sellers - list the complete set please

You know what....if you guys don't file "nonpaying" complaints with eBay and go through the process - how do you think we can ever get these deadbeats off the auctions. I know they can come back with a different ID, but they have to start all over again. I go into these feedbacks and find 6 or 7 negs on these people and no one has ever bothered to file with eBay. Crazy! I file a complaint on every one of them that doesn't pay me - just for the principle of the thing. I wait out the whole process and make darn sure they get that final email from eBay - then I put the items back up for auction, file a negative on their feedback stating I did file with eBay, and then I get my money refunded on top of that. Oh yes, I make darn sure they are "blocked" from ever bidding on my stuff again. Makes them mad, too! I have had a couple of bidders finally pay after eBay sent out their first email to them. The process is there for us to keep these nonpaying bidders from getting away with that. RB....I would definitely go through the process. All you need is the auction listing number, click, click, wait about 14 days and it's over. Who knows, you might just have a couple of them end up paying you after all. You better believe I would file on every darn one of them. I hate "nonpaying bidders." I have it stated right on my auction listings, too. They can't miss it.

As Dana Carvey would say doing his impression of POTUS Bush (no, the other Bush): "Ain't gonna happen."

I appreciate your thoughts folks, but I just don't need the aggravation trying to deal with eBay on a support level. They have already debited my credit card for these fees. Besides, unless you sell DVDs and videotapes, you will probably never encounter these deadbeats anyway. Many of them are "buyers" who registered during the 2002 summer and probably could care less about what happens to their eBay account. The "kids-with-keyboards" syndrome ... another reason why I wonder why buyers don't have to provide proof of ability to pay (the CC), but sellers do!

The ones that do surprise me though are those apparent deadbeats with a high positive feedback. I cannot understand why these types would meet my TOS (contact me within 3 working days with an address and payment method) and then disappear. You would think that they would be concerned about getting a NPB thing ... unless, of course, high FB buyers are immune.

Well, I tried the NPB thing for one deadbeat buyer. Here's the email I received from that buyer this morning (she must have received some kind of notice from eBay):

Subject: Re: XXXX - PAYMENT REQUEST
Date: Tue, 3 Sep 2002 05:57:58 -0700 (PDT)
From: "C. N." <[email protected]>
To: XXXX
I'm glad I trusted my instinct with you; could tell your a total #*!@ and a dumb breed of human being.

PS. My ebay account is just fine.

Nice people that

edited to add that it is the AW filth filter that has changed what this nice buyer actually said to me. How do I report this kind of member abuse???

sounds like they hit the nail on the head when it comes to describing you. It's no wonder nobody trusts you with anything once they find out your true colors. the only thing these people did wrong is figure it out after they bid on your stuff.

Wow, Look...

RB is a NARU again.

id: gracieshadrack.

Well looking at your sells , you barely sold $200 worth of items, not $300. Also you were able to run at least 64 auctions before you were pulled.

Some of his story can be proven....This user id was only a buying ID until he started selling the videos. Looks like in this case, he is probably telling the truth, well at least an exaggerated truth.
