Hello Femme,

Sounds like this guy is 52 cards short of a full deck.

Also, your post implies that this guy is the one who stated he had been posting on chat boards, so I expect he was using a pseudonym that prevented others from associating his posts with the man personally.

Femme,

That guy's words are scary. The wire service report of his election and opinions appeared a week or so ago in the local newspaper. Apparently he has run for office in the past as a Democrat and a Libertarian. He is now a Republican and was elected as a result of straight ticket voting. His views are hardly unique but they are a rarity among elected officials.

The news article and an accompanying photo are posted to the bulletin board in my roll call room. It's not much of a morale builder but it is good to be reminded now and then that such people and opinions exist.

femme,

I thought it was rather ironic that he ran that many times and no one ever found out. Usually there is so much smut mugging going on it is hard to tell anything else.

What is this politician's name? It would be very easy to run a search on DejaNews.

Frankly, the guy doesn't have to resign--he can be impeached quite easily. (nNo, it's not just for presidents)

Goes to show you....Republicans are like lemmings, sheep; if it says republican on it, they buy it.

The guy has a style all his own:

"There’s nothing wrong with wasting cops," Tom Alciere of Nashua, N.H., wrote in response to messages about the Cortez shooting. "They go around threatening innocent, random people at gun point, and they whine about it when one of us humans kills a cop."

Yep, did a power search on DejaNews. Put "alciere" in the name field (using first name as well brings up *every* person using Tom ) and you will find that this guy has been posting for quite a while & under his own name. Evidently, he is a Libertarian who lied about himself & ran as a Republican because (as he rejoins in one recent post) "I wanted to get elected."

Has some "interesting" views on other things, drinking age for one.

Thanks for your cooperation.

Evidently, he is a Libertarian...

Not based on the quotes in the first post. Libertarians have very definite views about individual rights, and "Nobody will ever be safe until the last cop is dead" is certainly not among them.

Femme,

In your first post...

According to him, he has posted his views on Internet chat boards for months. One of his comments from 1999: "Nobody will ever be safe until the last cop is dead."

There is no need for attribution if the statement is from the man's own mouth.

It might be easier to understand his feelings that cops shot innocent people out of hand if he were in LA or New York City, but I have a hard time seeing where he got that conviction in New Hampshire. I have always found rural police much more reasonable than the urban variety. Once in a large town I shall not name I was pulled over and handed a ticket for running a stop sign about a half hour before on a street I did not even know. I had to go look it up on a map. It did not improve my mood that the cop was giggling when he tore it out of his book and all the way as he walked back to his cruiser. I guess I should be happy if I was not hurt - just framed.

Gravid,

The cop giggled all the way back to his cruiser?

I do enjoy your perspective on things.

That evening I could not share the humor at all, but he thought it was hilarious. I mean at least it was not armed robbery or something. Just a traffic violation. When we went to court I told the judge I was sitting eating dinner with a family (not my own) and all of them from the 7 year old girl to the grandfather were there to swear I was sitting with them. He asked if I was there when did I get the ticket? I told him a half hour later
a couple miles away. He wanted to know why I thought a police officer would do that? I refused to speculate - saying he could think of as many scenarios as me but I did not know why so to what profit to guess?
He said lets take this in my chambers.
We went in and did not even get to sit down. He said to the 2 cops "Don't you ever embarrass me like that again, and to me dismissed. That was it. I got while the getting was good and kept my mouth shut.
To their credit I do have to say they never tried to "look me up" which I was worried about for a couple months.

Like my dad said voting a straight party ticket is the lazy way out.
This is the kind of riffraff you get when you don't do your homework.
I heard he was not all that fond of women either.

Following is the quote I was talking about:

``He took a domestic violence position several years ago where he said a woman needs to be dragged by the hair and either threatened with a bat or hit with a bat once in a while,'' Deputy Chief Tim Hefferan told The Union Leader.

A real man this guy is.

What a weasel!!!!

mrpotatoheadd: *He* calls himself a Liberterian in some of his posts on Deja. Granted, he is a black eye for Liberterians as a whole, but that is how he seems to see himself.

He expressed the view that occasional violence was needed to keep a woman in line.
A couple years ago a young fellow was getting married to a young girl that I was very fond of, and expressed the same thoughts while sitting around with his Father and brother and I. I was horrified, but more to the point I wanted something understood, so I told him
" I have a great deal of affection for Lea. If I have reason to think you are mistreating her you WILL be hurt." His Father who usually has very little to say, looked over at him and just said " Believe the man." So far so good. He appears to have never treated her rough. Where he got that crap I don't know. Certainaly not from his Father.

Thank you tegan for the quote.

I think if I were a N.H. cop I would carry his picture in my shirt pocket and if I ever had to even talk to him get a half dozen witnesses on the scene before saying boo to him. He sounds like the kind that would beat his own face with something to have a complaint. Or the silly twit might make a scrambling in the pocket for something motion to "test" you. Even when that one weird guy was laughing about giving me a ticket I never argued with him and the dome light stayed on with my hands up on the wheel. But some folks don't have the sense to not scare a guy with a gun. (whether he is a cop or anyone else)

bunnicula-

*He* calls himself a Liberterian in some of his posts on Deja.

He can call himself "Admiral of the Ocean Sea" if he likes, but saying it doesn't make it so.

I just hate to see a respectable group of people tarred by an unfortunate association, however contrived.

Last I heard he told his fellow reps he'd resign if they made sure his pet proposals were put forward: "legalizing drugs" (that's all the news report said) and "replacing public schools with online learning".

Remember the right-wing newspaper of a few years back, whose every page was so full of invective it'd nearly set your hair on fire just to read it? Considering that not much newsworthy actually goes on in NH most of the year, I think that folks in NH may just have a quirky sense of humor when it comes to this stuff. Perhaps the idea is "Heck, why not. There's so much room here, after all. How much harm can he do?"

I should add that bizarre proposals from public officials is not limited to NH. In the early '80s (I was there), Winooski, VT's mayor, supported by the rest of the city government, supported a study investigating the feasibility of putting a dome over the entire city (which encompasses a couple square miles). This proposal had considerable support. I always wondered who they planned to hire to clean all that glass.

Femme,

I suppose that everything we post is "graded" to one extent or another. My apologies if I came across as overly pedantic.

_____________________________________________

So this guy believes that women should be beaten every once in a while to keep them in line?

Obviously a total miscreant who can only attract the attention he craves by spouting outrageous crap.

How ironic it would be for him to seriously injured in a single vehicle auto accident in the dead of winter and find the only possible help for him was from a female police officer who chanced upon the scene.
