I had an auction end last night with a zero feedback bidder winning. He emailed me with the story he needs it in a rush for a gift and he will fed ex me the cash (almost $100) and then for me to use fed ex label he includes to send the item to him. Well I remembered reading something about that scam on this board so I emailed him back and said if he wanted to fed ex his payment to me that was fine but that I couldn't ship to him using his label. That it would be more convenient for me to express mail it to him, for him to just include the $5 postage I had originally asked for and I would make up the difference as a good will gesture and get it out to him ASAP. I asked him if he agreed to that, and haven't heard back yet. He listed his address as in the States and so am I. I suppose he could be legit but it smells fishy to me. What are the ways he could still scam me on this, besides never hearing from him again?

he could fed ex you a bunch of paper and claim he had money in that envelope. it shows it was delivered so even tho it wasnt money youre liable! cash is not traceable do not accept it!

Okay I emailed him back and told him I wouldn't accept it. And I told my husband not to accept a fed ex from him (he is at home all day). I knew I was screwing up somehow. Thanks for the advice.

No, you are not! The biggest thing about using their fedex label is that they can refuse to pay the charge and fedex will bill the shipper.

Never use anyones ups or fedex number as you can get stuck for the bill.

Do not ship till they pay you the shipping cost. Been there, never again!

i just meant that theres no way for him to prove he mailed money nor is there anyway for hammerchick to prove that he didnt mail money. not liable to ship but when they throw a tantrum saying they paid and you never shipped. thats where teh problem lies! you have no way of proving he didnt send money.

There is no reason not to use a label he sends to you. The problem the other people had were using a Fedex account number. If you get a label all you have to do is throw it in a Fedex box.(located outside most post offices) and thats it. There is no way they can charge you because you don't sign anything and you don't even need to have your name on the label. If you use there account number then you have to sign a paper that says you are responsible if they won't pay.

I am one of the posters regarding the bill coming back to me.

I would STRONGLY suggest that if you do accept his label, that you DO NOT call FedEx for a pickup. Drop it, if you can, in one of their boxes & make sure it does not have any of your information on it.

I would not use FedEx at all anymore just for the principle of it. They stuck me for over $200 and the buyer got away with it. Another poster here had the same problem, as well as another person on a different board. This is happening frequently to Sellers who get caught in this trap.

You are smart to be concerned. However, if you do what I tell you above, there can be no way FedEx can trace the package back to you. P.S., I would even go so far as to not include any personal info (i.e. an invoice) inside the box (JUST IN CASE)! Of course, I am paranoid like that.

Well now I really have egg on my face! He went ahead and paid with credit card and I have received notice his payment was approved. Now he is upset with me and I am quoting here, "...Additionally, I believe stating that you would refuse delivery of the FedEx Package was a little severe, given you were not familiar with my inexperience in using eBay." I think I need a vacation!!!
