Jack...I usually just throw it on the scale, add a couple pounds for packing and get the rate from the FedEx site and send it to them. I never bother with P.O. rates unless it's under a pound. What I hate are the bozos who don't give a zip code, just something like Podunk, Nebraska. I email back and tell them to send a zip. I don't bother to chase it down for them. No zip, no rate.

The light at the end of the tunnel will turn out to be an oncoming train.

I use the free, USPS shipping assistant all you need is a zip code, it's easier then playing the email game with them, and you get free DC with it.It's fast too!

I tried the easy route of fixed price shipping being listed in the auction itself. I still get 5-6 people asking how much shipping is to their zip.

If they don't give correct zip, I send them shipping charges from Bangor,Maine to Seattle, Washington.

Holy snit, Batman! What's the big deal about going to USPS.COM and taking 10 seconds to find a zip code?

Talk about a tempiss in a teapot!

If you want to run a successful business you give the the total for shipping, it's really not that difficult or time consuming and a Zip code is all you need for that. If they won the auction and then told you they thought you shipping was a litle high then you would complain because they didn't ask before the auction ended or if they did start the e-mail with Hi how you doing you'd complain because you don't like the small talk and just get to the question. A good business has a lot of small headaches to deal with and every customer doesn't know how every little thing works so thats just part of it. You spend a great deal of time on here complaining about minor things so if its really all that bad find something else to do and free yourself of all this. ME I'm glad for any paying customer I get no matter how many questions they may ask and if you don't answer the questions then you'll never know if they will be a good paying and even repeat customer.

I printed out the Zone chart & the Priority Mail chart. I also have the FedEx rates & Zonhe chart as I am a billed customer. Depending on what I am going to ship, I may put it in abox, put it on the scale & add a lb. for packing. However, I just sold one customer 12 pieces of china. I wrapped & packed it, then weighrd it. That way I could get an accurate cost for shipping.

I'm sorry, Jack. For some reason, I misunderstood your initial message. Don't know why. MAYBE IT'S BECAUSE YOU TYPE IN ALL CAPS AND CAN'T WRITE A COHERENT SENTENCE AND DON'T KNOW HOW TO PUNCUATE. Are you proud of that?

I don't think we missed the point at all. belive it or not you are not the only person who sells worldwide and high dollar items. It really must be nice to have that crystal ball to see who is sincire and who isn't. And yep you are not the only ole miltary person in the world either and Your being to lazy to respond to them is your choice also. If you would spend more time with the customer and less with your BS threads on here maybe you wouldn't have so many issues but from the jest of most of your posts I think you could find issues with just about anything.

AND THE IGNORE GOES ON !!!!!!!!!

geez louise Jack do you know how to bring out the beast in everyone or not??? I thought you were allowed to vent about dumb customers here, seems we all do. It irriates me with some of the rude replies here, I guess maybe some people are jealous of the fact that you are so busy with your business you complain about having to answer emails because the bidders are to lazy to figure it out for themselves. I can only assume they are jealous as there is no other reason to be so rude! (not that that is a good reason there is none)

this is a board to help others, am I wrong? Are we still allowed to vent about ebay upstairs or are we being banned to the basement again?

but from the jest of most of your posts

I get the gist and the jest of most of the posts.

Don't worry, Hair. It's not like people like PeePole have to bother with all the ins and outs of selling daily.

Yes, this is the place to vent about dumb or lazy customers, and we can also vent about POSTERS WHO ARE TOO LAZY TO HIT THE FRIGGIN' CAPS LOCK KEY, or those who can't be bothered to sort out the gumbo in their head before typing it on the screen.

'Scuse me, I have to go hit the ignore button now.

A good business has a lot of small headaches to deal with and every customer doesn't know how every little thing works so thats just part of it.

So true, I have to deal with this kind of thing day in day out. However,I find that if they just give me a full addy and zip it would be so much easier.
The worst part is when they do not even tell me what the item number or what the item is.

Jack does have a valid point as this can be more than just a minor setback. If you get enough of these kind of emails it can cost you a lot of hours in a day when you could be getting shipments ready for mailing.

I will answer every email as time will allow, but with full info it will be faster.

I agree Trai and Jack, it would help so much if the customer would tell us not only their complete address but WHICH ITEM they want weighed and priced for shipping. I try to have everything at least weighed and poundage listed. But no one seems to know where the USPS site is located. No, I don't charge any handling fee, that is another whole can of worms. And, of course, if they win more than one auction, they need to know what the combined 'items' packaged will cost to ship. I do enjoy eBay and Auctionwatch forum people are very helpful.

And some of them seem to start a new e-mail each time they get back to you instead of hitting reply. I have lots of patience but it does take time to trace who is e-mailing about whichever item.

I realize that many of them are newbies so I take time with them and it usually works out okay. Others just seem to be there to ask questions and never follow through but it is all part of doing business. We can still rant about it though.
