With recession staring them in the face, they have become reluctant to spend money. Personal spending is down from previous years as reported by the government. In the years from 1998 to 2000 when the stock market was roaring people felt good about theirselves and spent money feely because they was making more. Since then, the economy has reversed and entering into a secular bear economy. Ebay came alone perfectly to take advantage of the roaring economy. Many other e-commerse businesses have gone by the way side, ebay will be the last to go and it dies hard. ebay's fees reflects a company growing in the uplifting economy but the reality is their fees are too high in this dieing atmosphere. Consequently good stuff is not listed because the bids are not there.

Maybe they is out taking English lessons and getting their GED diploma. Might be a good time for some sellers to take advantage of the lull and do the same thing.

uncalled for, not un called for. I'm nowhere near perfect, but I'm far from awful semi-illiterate. And I'm not picayune about minor grammar mistakes, but I think that a basic grasp of grammar, like using are vs. is, would help sellers with their decriptions and sell-thru rate. Any edge can help in this competitive market, and I think there are some bidders that won't bid on an auction that reads like it was written by Jethro Clampett. Lighten up wright....where are your sense of humor?

They probably finally got up the nerve to post in here and now it is bashing time. This is the posters 1st post. How many times have we all used bad grammer. This is not an english lesson but a discussion board where people can come in here and maybe get a decient answer. I for one would never critize anybodys language as mine isn't the best either.

My auctions are going really good. I don't list a lot but there are only 4 auctions that I have no bids on. 1 auction is new and the other 3 are relists. The last couple of months have really been good. I think my sell through rate starting Jan 1 is 75% and I can't complain about that.

I'll honestly admit - basically I only clipped on this topic because of the TITLE and the improper English....sorry, but it drives me nuts too - and most folks have Microsoft WORD, and it will not only check your spelling, but it will also check your grammer - BUT, I also know that anyone can make a boo boo, even an English teacher.

Maybe he did it as a joke? Maybe English is not his first language. I know I admire everyone who picks up English when it is not their first language. I don't want to learn another one.

If it was just a mistake, who really cares??? This is not an auction ad...it is a message board. I don't use word or spell check before posting. I do usually re-read the post and go in and edit but you can't change a title once it is made.

Come on...lighten up and just stick to his/her question.

Yes, my sales are slow. Last week I had 77% sell through. This week it is sitting at 16%. They close on Monday but I have had no bids since yesterday morning.

Might be a good time for some sellers to get some manors. Pointy does not seem that sharp to me.

pointy

I started a thread on that very thing - grammar. However, I tend to ignore it on the threads. Sometimes we are in such a hurry to get out point across, we pay not attention to grammar or spelling. Although, I do edit obvious mistakes.

I've noticed that sales have slowed - a lot. The good news is that I've gotten quite a few bargains out of this slow-down. I just cleaned all the "stuff" out of my house and it's back three-fold. LOL! If you are willing to sell your things at rock bottom prices, I think you might do well in a lot of the categories. The problem with that is, I have no intention of losing my shirt or giving things away. I think I'll hold off on listing anything else until things pick up.

Back to the matter at hand....

I don't know about receiving bids since I am not currently selling, but as a bidder I keep losing out on auctions I've bid on so obviously there are some bidders out there besides myself

I live in California and have been having trouble accessing eBay since Friday night (and I know it is not my ISP as every other web site I load is responding normally). I'm having a lot of search attempts come back timing out, and I can't access the "My eBay" page as it times out. So, if you've got auctions that have ended or are ending this weekend, that might be the problem; it could be a lot of us are not able to access the site.
