Is this what is known as a Maalox moment?
The light at the end of the tunnel will turn out to be an oncoming train.

That announcement of a power outage?----

What happened to the mirrors? Didn't they spread the load to a number of servers--besides having mirror sites that take over when the primary servers are down? You know--so there wouldn't be any outages!SIGH!

Meg cut the technology budget to raise the bottom line. Not a smart thing to do if your company depends on technology.

"The online company is in the market for Web hosting locations to ensure its system never goes down. By locating redundant servers in several geographic areas, it can switch from one to another if severe weather, electrical outages or other unexpected occurrences bring one off-line."

How wrong was the Denver Business Journal

"What really got us thinking was the series of blackouts in San Jose in 1998," Pursglove said. "At that time we also thought about the fact that this part of the country can be subjected to fires, floods and earthquakes."

Mr.Pursglove as spokesman for top management was also wrong! Can we have a recall at eBay like the one in California? We always elect Jay Leno to replace the top dog.

Here is eBay Announcement of "Power Outage:"

***eBay Power Outage: Resolved***
Date: 08/21/03 Time: 12:29:44 AM PDT

This evening, eBay experienced a power outage at our primary hosting facility. Due to this power failure, all site functions, including the Announcement Board, were unavailable from 20:55 until 23:45. eBay worked with its hosting vendor to restore the site as quickly as possible.

In accordance with eBay's outage policy, since viewing and bidding were unavailable for more than 2 hours, eBay will be crediting all listing fees and has extended all listings scheduled to end between 20:55 PDT, 20 Aug and 02:00 PDT, 21 Aug for 24 hours. We will also be crediting the .10 fee for 10-day auctions for all listings that were active at 20:55 PDT.

We thank you for your patience and apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused.

Regards,
eBay
