Analyzing your post, I understand why your sales are down. The right stuff is what sales. I've been dealing in collectibles for 22 years, I have a good understanding of the market (at least I believe that to be the case) - Those who come into the collectibles market thinking they can find something (like NASCAR merchandise, or souvenir plates) will probably lose their shirts. The stuff that does well IS hard to find, if it wasn't, it would be readily available and anyone could sell it. You need contacts, you need to do work to find the stuff. Advertising helps as well. I don't know what the average ebay seller is, but nothing is unavailable to those who have done the work. You can't go to a wholesaler and just resell this stuff. Well, you can for about 3 weeks, then it is overdone and nobody wants the stuff. Prices drop, sales stop, and people complain. I deal in stuff that can NOT be purchased from a wholesaler.

I don't see ebay changing their fee structure or offering free days, why should they? If you are selling $3 items, then you will probably lose money on ebay. As the saying goes, it takes money to make money, and it isn't just going to be handed to you, you have to work for it. As I said, this year has been the best I have had on ebay. That doesn't speak for you, just for me.

Gold Nuggets and Gold Bars are selling great and bringing great prices. Its the only investment that is paying off unless you are named Bush and own oil wells.

native american- you are right, I have found that gold is a good investment lately. People know that when the hiper inflations sets in because of the lowering of interest rates that inflation is right around the corner. A great time for the price of Gold to rise.

I am not picking on people like "thefamilybiz" I am sure they are very nice people but I have also seen photos they have posted on this board of items they sell. No way are those items setting the world on fire.

nativeamerican, I am having GREAT FUN watching all the people that voted for Pres. Bush squirm in their seats about Pres Bush. All they can try to do is blame someone else for Bush's failures. ITS VERY VERY FUNNY. His latest failure GAS PRICES. It will be fun to watch who they blame this problem on. I will guarantee they won't blame Pres. Bush's rich oil buddies. LOL

I'm still dying to hear how free listing days will increase bids. Come on dbest - if that is what you think is going to save the collectibles market then you should be able to explain the corelation.

fenix03- You said "I'm still dying to hear how free listing days will increase bids. Come on dbest - if that is what you think is going to save the collectibles market then you should be able to explain the corelation."

It is simply a matter of numbers. When you elimate the insertion fee it does not matter what you sell through rate is. All you sell will be profit after your FVF. Simply put, it will be worth listing because your fees are lower. If fees are lower then more people will list and better quality of items will be offered and then better buyers will appear. Every seller on ebay knows that but every management person for ebay refuses to except that. Unless change comes from ebay itself they will enevitable die.

dbest,
free listing day brings in more listings but not more bidding.
if you want to list free,go to another site.
if you want to get bids, stay on ebay.
what you are looking for is freebie, you want to go to a prime retail mall and expect the landlord to give you free rent .
if you would give us your ebay seller id,we could take a look at what you sell, there are some smart people here who could give you some constructive ideas.
