The majority of people here said to end the auction and relist, so are you saying the majority are wrong? It comes down to asking for advice and then doing what feels best for you. In that case, no one here is wrong. Tomwiii asked for advice and we gave it. The ultimate decision is up to him. Just because it might be right for me to take an auction down and relist, doesn't mean it feels right to tomwiii.
Best of luck to you tomwiii! We need a good bidding war 'bout now. Then you can buy Ralphie a nice guilded doggie cage in which he can eat that nice steak with the big bone!

I agree with Cheryl. It's Tom's decision what to do here after hearing input from all that contribute.
This is a message board and a very diverse group of people give their opinions or advice here.
No single person is the "Advice God" here. It is the best board around just because of that. I would say for all to trust this board when they need advice, not to trust just certain people because different situations arise all the time.

Tom, I would have said take it down, but by the time I caught up with this thread you already said you werent.
bigpeepa: Unless you're professionally paying for someone's counsel, i.e.,lawyer, therapist, antique specialist,
-- whatever -- its all just opinion. Take it for what you want and personally value it at.
At least it is free here and nobody HAS TO offer you any input at all.

I think the fact that the bids are good now, with over 5 days to go, show that these will not go for pennies.
IMHO, most of the real monied shoppers on ebay wait until near the end anymore. This is a real auction, and what fun to watch them.
Ralphie old boy, a night on the town for you! Whoooopppppeeeee!!!!

neroter12, About antique advice on this board. I have always said people should have to take a test and be licensed to call themselves an "antique dealer or dealer". I have also always said that it takes more then Ebay to be an antique dealer. If a person had to test and be licensed to become a licensed antique dealer, 98% of the quote "DEALERS" would be gone both on Ebay and in everyday life. If people would only learn to SHUT UP when they don't know something they and Tomwill would be a lot better off to-day. Tomwill got a lot of bad advice period, don't try to blame him for getting bad advice.

BIGPEEPA, you say that tomwiii received a lot of bad advice yet you didn't offer him any or say which advice was wrong.
If you have knowledge of these plates that others here don't have why not offer it up?
It's easy to criticize others on a board for lack of knowledge but unless you take time to show your own knowledge about certain things it doesn't mean anything.

I thought the advice I received was: EXCELLENT!
Hey, I almost listed these 2 for $9.99!
THANKS to the folks here, I'll probably end up with a profit 100X my "investment!"
The only thing I did wrong was list them too quickly! I should have waited a day or two & did some more research -- but, once I got 2-3 bids, I felt more or less ethically bound to see it thru!
OTOH: I truthfully don't know what my response would have been if I had mucho invested in these?? Well, I probably would have used my rare reserve option!
Truly don't know?? Taint some easy decisions here, kiddies. YES, I want mucho buckeroos; but, at the same time, I like FUN & FAIR AUCTIONS!
It's gonna be a blast when these two end -- hopefully we'll see some real excitement...time to buy Ralphie some doggie-depends!
You've made several good points in this thread. What has impressed me is that several of us have learned something from Tom's experience here. I researched spatterware and found a local auction house that has sold this stuff for sky high prices - like $25,000 for a cup and saucer!
I also appreciated the extra resources offered up - the recent article on the stuff, etc.
I also think that what's offered here are just what has been said - opinions. And, we all know that everyone has one, right?

These plates don't look to me what I thought spatterware was. In my mind they looked like Gaudy Dutch. But then I didn't research them and didn't give an opinion on what I thought they were.
This board has taught me lots because of all the diverse input and I appreciate all the people that contribute.
opinions. And, we all know that everyone has one, right?
Reminds me of "Opinions are like A---O--s, everyone has one" Hahahaha
At least I know how to communicate with you. That was exactly the reason for adding that phrase. You got it.
Now go out and have a great weekend and get those listings ready! We're headed to another country auction, so we'll see what interesting things we bring back this week.

tomwii...I really think that true collectors of Stick Spatter will find these plates. If you list them, they will come. It may not be the very best time of year to list them, but if it's a really nice item, people will still pay the price for them. If you had listed them any other way, I believe there would be less hits. True stick spatter collectors will usually pay good money for something special like these plates.
So, what do I get for a commission for identifying these as Stick Spatter?

By the looks of it the spatter ware collectors have found your plates. Glad you didn't stop your auctions. You go Ralphie...

Tom...What the hell do you mean it's time to buy Ralphie Doggie-Depends? It's time to start thinking about buying a nice, thick, one pound New York steak and cooking it the way he likes it. Might just encourage him to sniff out a few more sleepers
The light at the end of the tunnel will turn out to be an oncoming train.

Anyone that thinks tomwii is doing it wrong is free to place that winning bid and show the forum how to do it. I'll pass on that challenge because tomwii's listing is almost exactly how I'd do it. I'd have started it at $9.99 or less, but at this stage of the auction that's a rather minor point. Personally I don't think many B&M antique dealers look at eBay as their inventory source buddy.
