The brass fitting around the top has the threads on the inside.

It obviously won't bring as much as if it didn't have the chip, but if it is a scarce design, it will still sell. I'm not an expert on oil/kerosene lamps, but I've not seen one like you have. I've been selling for almost 40 yrs.
Do yourself a favor and find the pattern before you list it. If it's listed generically, it won't get the attention that it would if it had a name.

The brass fitting on the glass font is called the collar.

This is also a good lamp site that shows all the collars, burners, etc (if you click on Parts) and many of the different styles and patterns of lamps.

horsey said 689 were listed in the last two weeks with nary a bid

I think he should check again. I see many that ended with bids, some going for almost $600.00.

AuctionAce, when you say things like It makes more less sense it makes NO SENSE.

There are probably numerous dealers that buy lamps on ebay for certain customers, I have purchased some myself and resold them in my shop. But I am selective in what I purchase and don't just go by lowest price. Chipped items don't sell as well on ebay either as they do in my shop.

Yes Kiara the ones for $600 look EXACTLY like the one with the chip. Have you taken the time to analyze the results of your search ??
692 items found for milk glass lamp
1st is $577.89
50th is $62.00
The other 642 items are $62.00 to $0.01

Give an idiot statistics and he can prove anything.

Sigh.........

Give an idiot statistics and he can prove anything.

Horsey, this is what you said.

I ain't no expert but my question is : If many old lamps bring more in retail shops then why aren't they selling when they are listed for $5 on Ebay.
Shouldn't the folks who are selling these lamps for big bucks in their stores be buying them for $5 on Ebay.
689 were listed in the last two weeks with nary a bid.

I just showed you that your stats were wrong. Nary a bid means that 689 had no bids.

And I don't buy just any old $5.00 lamp on ebay to resell in my shop and neither do most dealers. And NEVER did I say that the one that sold for almost $600 was like the one discussed here. And when I said "many old lamps" I wasn't specifically talking about milk glass ones either. Sheesh!

In the supermarket Asparagus sells for $2.95 a lb and Bananas are 19 cents. Both are vegetables.

Guess some folks just can't tell the difference between fly crap and black pepper.
