Hi,

How about this: Davy Crockett Clothes/Hat Rack Davey Crocket

It'll fit in the current space limit.

Sounds great Lucy. I will do that. When does ebay's longer titles take effect?????

You know there is chalky stuff in between the cardboard. Drywall??? Composite?? OH Heck, what should I call it??

I think the longer title begins mid-February.

Oh, I don't know, maybe slush it a bit and call it cardboard composition or composition cardboard.

I don't think I'd use the word drywall, sounds like it was chopped out of the house by a maniac carpenter obsessed w/Davy! LOL!

Oh Lucy you are so funny. I can almost picture that. Good idea, omit the words drywall. I think I'll list it on thursday so it can run 10 days and close on sunday

Thanks so much everyone. Sure wish I had that kovels that cta has I would have loved to read the description in it.

Paloma - I got the information from Kovel's On-Line, so unfortunately, it doesn't say anything more than value. Sorry!

But it looks like it is some type of particle wood that is pressed together in layers. It doesn't look like Syroco to me.

cta, I truly appreciate your help and eveyrone else here too. You are very kind to help out like this. I think it really looks like layers of cardboard with drywall in it but denser than drywall. Really compressed like chalk. I hope I am making sense. I guess I'll go with cardboard composition or something like that. It's going to be interesting to see what happens.

You know, it might not make a hill-o-beans difference if you're off the mark as to the "official" name of the material.

The nice peeps who collect Davy Crockett stuff will either recognize it for what it is or won't give a darn - they'll just want it! I hope they want it to the tune of mega-$$$

I noticed the same thing Lucy, I misspelled it the first time. So assuming others might do the same, I would add Davey Crocket at the bottom of the listing.

**Sorry for the out of order post, missed that new page thingy again!*****

Yes, put in every mis-spelling you can think of!

Excellent advice as it's just not sellers that misspell words or names it's also buyers that search with misspelled words that the sellers should try to catch by including those misspelled words in their descriptions.

Hi all,

If the misspellings are in the description the auction won't come up in a title search. If there's room (and I think there is...) they should be in the title.

Also be sure to include all spellings in your add so you get everybody looking at it.

That's wonderful! And almost 9 days to go.

I think I'll put on my watch list, just for fun.

Paloma, Looks like you made an excellent move by starting the unique item at $49.95 as there was still only one bidder at the end and if the item was listed at $19.95 that bidder would have probably been the only bidder too.

How did you do on those large steamer trunks that you bought a while ago?

Yes, Auctionace, I did. thanks. I had a feeling that it might happen. This type of thing has been happening alot to me lately. I wanted to make sure that my friend got as much as possible for this item. Collectibles just are NOT selling lately. The items people need or can use every day are selling better than the unique or collectibles.

That why this trunk is still sitting in my hallway. I havent listed it yet. First of all, I don't have too many big ticket items like this to sell so I want to explore all of my options on selling it before I list it. It is way too big for me to try to piok up myself and to truck it down somewhere to ship it, let alone package it. I am trying to sell it locally first and see what happens. Any thoughts?

I also want to give everyone a BIG virtual HUG for all of your help with this thing. I couldnt have done it without all of your help.

As they say in the back woods " You done good! ". There might only two or three of those Davy Crockett hangers in existence but the chances of two serious Davy Crocket memorabilia collectors finding the auction at the same time are very slim. Your tacit of listing a decent price and hoping for the best was the right tacit.

As for the steamer trunk, I see many of these at the local flea markets and unless they are the very old wooden slats type of trunk they seem to have very little value. People can go to WalMart and get a cheapie trunk for a low price and that may be a big factor. The older ones are constructed better but the wallet often wins. The huge plastic tubs with lids are now down to a few bucks too.
I have a feeling you are going to have a very difficult time getting a decent price out of this item on ebay because of the shipping aspect. Maybe a free ad in the PennySaver type local publications will find a local buyer? Good luck!

Um - contrary to some of the points in Aces post - the price of Rubbermade and steel trunks really has little to do with the price people are willing to pay for your steamer trunk. steamer trunks are not underbed, in the closet, somewhere in the basement storage items. They are functional design items. I'm still interested. I miss my old one.

Have you tried contacting some of the regular sellers to see how they ship? You also may want to try Greyhound. Wrap that puppy in about 8 layers of shrink wrap, recruit the hunky son of a friend, and put it on a bus.

If it's really "common" sense, why do so few people actually have it?

I did contact the other sellers who sell these trunks. Two of them were so kind as to tell me how they package and ship them. Oh, If you only knew how heavy this thing is. These are the times I wish I had another pair of helping hands besides my son.

Auctionace, Pennysaver is free up to $50. I thought about that. I'd like to get more than that for the trunk. I contacted some auction dealers in the area. They are intereseted but they want to come over and see more than a trunk. I don't have time right now to do that. I did list it online in a free want ad listing. Hopefully someone will see it and contact me. Ho hummm

Felix, are you saying you are interested in buying the trunk???

Paloma...A few years ago, a friend of mine picked up a steamer trunk at the swap meet and used it to pack all of his smaller glass items in to go to the Memorial Day weekend antique show at Oakhurst. He got up there, unpacked and set up everything, and the first thing he sold was the trunk. A tourist on the way to Yosemite stopped by his space and spotted it in the back of his pickup and offered him a price he couldn't turn down even though he had no intentions of trying to sell it. He had to scramble to find boxes to pack his unsold items in at the end of the show. You might consider consigning it to someone who does shows up and down the coast this summer. Otherwise, do as the others suggested, list it and get a husky teenager to get it to the Greyhound depot for you when it sells.

The light at the end of the tunnel will turn out to be an oncoming train.
