No, a secret service agent mistook Dumbya for a small boy, and it was his lollypop, not a gun.

A 17 year old male.... shot in the leg. Conflicting reports about whether he fired a gun or just pointed one in the direction of the White House building. Last report says that the boy fired one shot and then secret service shot him.

I believe this President will need more protection and security than any other president. There is a true hatred for this man. Hate, fear, and frustration are very motivating emotions.

They said the shooter was deranged. Ha, that may be true in his case, but you don't need to be deranged to kill. If it was true all men in wars would be deranged. All you need is a cause and motivation.

Wait until Bush starts getting involved in foriegn relations. I think he, himself, is our countries biggest security risk.

It was a 47 year old from evansville Indiana, some sort of an accountant and loner. They are awaiting a search warrant to search his house. Bush goes about his everyday business. I do agree for the need to beef up security on him.

Sounds like a case of attempted "suicide by secret service."

Edited as it wasn't the same guy. It was the mayor of Miami who hit his wife over the head with a teapot today. Sorry [red]

For those who feel this happened because he didn't like Bush, could you just consider that maybe he had a 'personal problem'? OR using that same thought process (above), did you feel the same way/thing when the two attempts were made on the White House while Clinton was president?

Wow, this comes just a couple of days after BBC News reported that a British Teen had emailed a death threat to Bush!

The worst of it is that it came at nap time. The poor boy was already having trouble getting his usual amounts of sleep. It's been noticed by the media who reported the other day:

"George W. doesn't seem to be getting his usual ample hours of sleep. Though not doing much of substance, he has to be awake much longer than he is used to, and his few unscripted remarks have been often cranky." --Chicago Sun Times, 2/6/01

No Ken, he was exercising when the shots were fired. And yes it has occurred to me that this could be just another wacko in need of help. We will soon find out.

Linda - yep, he had a personal problem with Bush.

They were all stupid if they wanted to get either of the Presidents. Hand guns and too much security around the White House.

I'm confused.

How do you say that a man fired from the IRS in the 80's and sued the Feds under during Clinton's terms mean that he has a personal problem with Bush (who has been there a whole 18 days or so)

Sounds like he has a whole raft of problems that have nothing to do with the current president.

You should be ashamed of yourselves for making jokes or "wishing" that Bush had been assasinated. Although I think Clinton was a disgrace to this nation and I personally cannot stand him, I would never wish that the man had been killed. You are disgusting.

We were watching the minitempest on CNNI. It looked more like the White House security team got a break in their routines than anything else. Bush was never in any danger.

What we found interesting, however, was in one breath the newscaster told how Secret Service agents kept Bush in the White House for HIS safety, yet people touring the White House were ushered out the door for THEIR safety.

Seems to me that if being inside was safer, then the tourists would have been safer inside as well.

On the other, more cynical, hand, there would be time for authorities to take steps if the gunman had to shoot his way through civilians first. After all, isn't the Prez more important than a group of tourists?

The tom called them "cannon fodder".

Well, one thing for sure: one group of Government Employees are gonna be very, very busy keeping dumbo safe... Give them a raise; they are gonna need it to cover their overtime...

Too bad about the man getting shot in the leg...

Oh! Well! Someone will succeed...After all, there is still 4 years to go...

Death-threat from England, hey??? Class act Did they have to point out E-N-G-L-A-N-D on the map for dumbo?

I expect a lot of wackos to come out of the woodwork and give it a try because of the zero year Indian curse.
They did a rerun on TV tonight of the Secret Service thumping their chest and saying how they are ready for anything. They showed them doing the training exercise again where someone fires a shoulder launched missle at the limo and misses by a mile.
I told the wife I want to see what they do for a training exercise when 3 or 4 shooters peg that sucker with rocket propelled granedes. You wouldn't be able to tell what
kind of vehicle it used to be. But they flap their mouths about being ready for anything - as long as they miss. Makes them look silly to anyone that knows how easy an RPG is to shoot, and they will take out just about anything but a main battle tank's frontal armor.
Edited because my k key is sticking!

Gosh Shosh! I do believe you are the true "class act" around here, why don't you post a photo, then some of us can point out your physical flaws for you? It must be nice to be so self assured, people like you degrade others for faults they have no control over just to make themselves feel good. Gosh! I wish I were a Democrat so I could be just like you!

snowydays - where did Shosh say anything about physical flaws?

You're right, Bush really can't overcome being stupid. Part was hereditary, and the drugs fried the rest of his brain.

chococake, the man must have a little sense to have become President. I must have missed your Presidency, since you think you are so intelligent, in what years did you serve? Easy to be an armchair critic, quite another to have the intelligence to actually run for something yourself and try to make a change.

Just for Snowydays:

"I want it to be said that the Bush administration was a results-oriented administration, because I believe the results of focusing our attention and energy on teaching children to read and having an education system that's responsive to the child and to the parents, as opposed to mired in a system that refuses to change, will make America what we want it to be—a literate country and a hopefuller country."
