And on the other count, yup yup how right you are already: I am sometimes a part time volunteer peer counselor at one of the centers here in nyc. I won't tell ya which one yet. That will be a whole 'nother thread.

Verymodern, I clicked on some of the links you provided in the other thread. I was not sure what the exact time I was born was, so typed in several in a 3 hour range. It said the same thing about me everytime, so I am not sure that this stuff is actually accurate. I guess my question would be, I am a Leo, birthday is August 15th, is that the reason I am so unyeilding in my opinions and beliefs? Just curious what you think.

Hi Snowy - a computer is supremely limited in delineating a chart.
You are no doubt getting a read out of your aspects which will not change (much) in a 3 hour window.
Venus is still square Mars in that time frame for example -- and so this is why the report is the same. What moves quickly is the Moon, the ascendent and the houses.

On the "unyielding.. blah blah blah" this is true of pure Leo in that it is a FIXED sign, however it is greatly modified by house and aspects to your sun and where other planets may be placed. For example, if the rest of your chart is in Gemini (mutable / changeable) then you would not be so fixed.

The thing with Leo is it is the Queen King and the RULE.
Part and parcel of that is that they are not going to be swayed by every yokel that shows up at the door

Anyway, send your data if you want. I am here, or I mean I will be tomorrow.

I'm feeling particularly brave tonight, so I'll throw out one question I've had...

You know how one sign ends on one day and
then another picks up on the next - I've always been curious about exactly how this works - because you were born on the day a sign begins, does that mean that you have more characteristics of the previous sign than someone born in the middle of the time?

I was born on October 24th, which depending on what you read either is the day of the switch OR the day after (hmmm, that's *another* question, I guess!) . Does this mean I have more Libra aspects than most Scorpio's or is it a strong delineation? I was born at night on the 24th (around 10pm I believe) does *that* matter? Would it be different if I had been born earlier in the day? The year was 1972 if that matters...heck, I don't even know *what* matters so I guess I'm a prime candidate for Astrology 101 *grin*

Thanks for any insights
Tarisa

(p.s., I'm married to a Scorpio as well - and we actually have a very harmonious marriage - who woulda thunk it?)

I can answer that one! At least a little of it.

If you are born close to the sign change it's called being born on the cusp between the two signs. (I was born on the cusp between Virgo and Libra.)

"Close" is usually defined as within two days of the change, but some astrologers say up to five days away shows influence of the othe sign.

And yes, it does mean that you will have more characteristics of Libra than a Scorpio borm in mid-sign. It's not simple, though, because all those other planets are in their respective signs and houses, too.

Lots of things to know about, and I am just barely in first grade.

Tarisa - Silk Moth is correct, the degree at the end / beginning of a sign is called the "cusp" but I disagree that you are hanging out between 2 signs. There is a line and it moves slightly year to year. I guess I am saying that I don't agree with the 5 degrees thing. Liz Greene writes in one of her books that it does not help interpretation and reminds that 1 degree of a sign very often shows the signs characteristics in spades.

A good example of this is cmbtboots in the other thread, rising sign 0 degrees Cancer and huge breasts - no evidence of Gemini rising (stick thin and wiry from all the nervous energy) at all even though the sign rising just changed (within 2 minutes).

I punched in your data and if you were born Oct 24 around 10PM (I am using a city in the US - if you are in a widely different time zone this may be change) then you are a Scorpio. As a matter of fact in 1974 on Oct 24 the Sun was in Scorpio all day long (in the US).

You would still have Libra qualities because you have Pluto, Uranus, and Mars conjunct in Libra.
Just FYI - Gemini Moon, Venus in Virgo.

Ruler Mercury is conjunct Uranus and the Sun in the sky.

turns out this is so easy to answer njrazd.
No!
He has a line up like this:
Uranus @ 16 Cap
Neptune @ 17 Cap
Venus @ 23 Cap
Mars @ 26 Cap
Saturn @ 10 Aquarius
Sun @ 23 Aquarius
Mercury @ 24 Aquarius.

Now Aquarius follows Capricorn in the Zodiac and so you see this is a tight array (stellium) of a bunch of planets and what happened is that Uranus leading the pack transited over all the other points since the day he was born.
This means, chaos, crazy, rebellion, shocking.
You (he) are almost done though. T Uranus will cross his last (Mercury) early 2002. Whew!

Then respite until 2014 when T Uranus will square his stellium from Aries, and then Taurus.
As you know, he is an extraordinary kid.

Thanks njrazd, he has a Sag rising and a Gemini Moon and the odds that he is going to be rich are more than 99.9%

Don't tell him though. Let him work.

VeryModern...thank you so much! Yes, he has been challenging and I think another year may be all I can take! LOL Definitely gives me something to hope for.

Oh, and the rich part will be our little secret! He already knows he will be expected to work hard. LOL

How fixed are the fixed signs?

Let's see...
There is my husband the Taurus with the same frames for his glasses since 5th grade (roughly 30 years) and his slippers I threw out when I met him that he had been wearing for 18 years, plus the TV that was produced before there was remote control which he still watches.

My first husband, Scorpio, and his Cheerios. He ate them for 30 years and not the slightest interest in trying "honey nut" when they came out with it, he just had no motivation, he did not see the point.

Then what prompted this thread is a call I just made to my best pal, a Scorpio. I got his answering machine and the message says "I got this for Christmas so I guess I better use it..."
The Christmas he got it was about 12 years ago...

Any other stories out there?

VeryModern: My husband is a Virgo packrat. When we first moved up to his house, I ended up throwing out a few things (well, more than a few) such as old rusted broken rakes, keys that fit no locks, things like that. Invariably, within a week, he would come up with some excuse (use) as to why I should keep these things. I've also seen other Virgo packrats. I haven't seen anything in my reading about this, err, tendency. Is it so?

Virgo is frugal, and does not like to waste. Also would prefer to recycle rather than clog landfills. A broken rake is not junk if you are a Virgo.

They figure that the container they save today will be the perfect size and shape to hold something neatly at a future date and it is pointless to argue with a Virgo because they are always right, as you well know if you are married to one

LOL!!!

His solution was we could have hung the broken rake heads on the wall to hang the useless keys on.

And just what's wrong with keeping keys you have no locks for? You may find a lock they fit someday!

Let's see. I am a Virgo, sign of perfection and attention to piddly tiny details. I spent 15 years in engineering, where an error of parts per billion in a water sample was a major problem.

Much more frugal than most people I know, yes. I agree about the recycling, but I am not terribly picky about saving things. (VM, I am assuming that this is the Libra ascendant, mutable, seeing both sides part?)

Husband is a Leo Leo (Leo sun, Leo rising). Fixed?

I've mentioned his business wardrobe before, but it bears repeating. He has seven pairs of identical navy blue slacks, two identical navy suit coats, eighteen identical white dress shirts, and all his socks are navy blue.

He can (and does) get dressed in the dark and know everything matches.

If you've read the "More cooking" thread, you know his tastes in food are totally unchangeable - he's eaten certain things for almost half a century and has no intention of changing now, even if they aren't good for him.

We have lived in the same city, in only two houses, for almost 30 years together. The only reason we moved after the first 14 years was we outgrew the smaller house.

Oh yes, and we managed to produce two children, both Tauruses. My daughter is the true pack rat. I should check her chart - she has to have a strong Virgo in there somewhere.

Not a very exciting family, no?

But we are steady.

Hiya therp!

Silk Moth - you're gettin' it!

Virgos love astrology - guess why?
ORDER!
They like the idea that their is order in the universe PLUS it is a thing that they can "figure out" and scrutinize and never exhaust.

Virgo Moon in the 2nd - "will serve for money" LOL
