Do we really need a third Crocodile Dundee movie? Wasn't number two painful enough? Is the Australian tourist industry hurting that bad? Is Subaru now backing films? For my money, Steve Irwin's real life adventures make the "Crocodile Dundee" character look about as daring as the guy who works in the reptile department at Petland.

How about Josie & The Pussycats -- are there no original ideas in Hollywood anymore?

And what about this -- they're remaking Planet of the Apes. This is a crime! No one will ever do it better than Charlton Heston. Forget that I think he's a pompous trigger-happy ass -- no one will ever utter that wonderful, wonderful line "Get your stinking paws off me, you damn, dirty ape" with the same authority. (Ditto for "Soylent green is people!" )

And while I'm on my tirade about the film industry's lack of creativity and originality, brace yourselves for the new live-action Scooby Doo movie starring Freddie Prinze Jr as .. well, Freddie. And the hugely overrated Sarah Michelle Gellar as Daphne.

And these are just the ones I've heard of.

I liked the second Crocodile Dundee. It had Iggy in the soundtrack.

But you're right on about remakes.

That's most hilarious!!

Might as well make a sequel to "Plan 9 From Outer Space" since they only seem to re-make dumb movies to begin with.......

No kidding about Crocodile Dundee! What we need is another Yahoo Serious movie!!

I ran across the soundtrack CD for the new Josie movie and I was disappointed to see they hadn't reprised any of the Pussycats' original hits (apart from the theme). I still have (in mint condition -- and not from lack of playing it!) the 7" of Inside, Outside, Upside Down I sent for using a coupon off the back of a box of Kellogg's cereal back in '71.

Sarah Michelle Gellar seems fine to me as the vapid Daphne. But who's gonna be Velma??? Rob Lowe did a pretty good Shaggy on SNL a year or two back.

Give us a break. No the Australian Tourist Industry in not hurting. But thank you for asking.

Do you really think we would want another Dundee movie. Hogan is getting old and he is a has been, and maybe he is trying to prove that he still has it. As far as most Australians' are concerned he is more American than Aussie these days and as for Steve Irwin , please give us a break. YUK!!!!

We have a variety of other famous Austrailians' that would fit the bill as far as an Aussie icon to promote our beautiful country. Why we could use Nicole, Elle, Russell or Mel to name just a few.

Thank you for your concern over our tourist industry.

Now as for your question , do we really need a third Crocodile Dundee movie? well of course the answer is no, but did we really need any number of stupid movies. Of course not but we got them anyway.

Ashley Judd as Catwoman?! She's cute, but Julie Newmar she ain't.

Ashley Judd?

What is WRONG with these morons in Hollywood?

You are right James. There never will be another Julie Newmar. She was the only Catwoman for me.

Mel Gibson's a real cliche by now. If I never saw him in a movie again, I'd be kind of happy.

I still love Mel but never did care for Hogan... My 11 year old tells me that he's moving to Australia to become another Steve Irwin as soon as he's an adult. I think he means it too.
Not paranoid anywhere else but here!

Mel is a honey, always was, always will be.

Mybid, when your son moves to Australia you should come with him and visit all your Aussie mates.

My favorite Catwoman was a black singer with a sultry voice, and I hate to admit it but I can't even remember her name. Loved her.

I couldn't agree with you more about the the remakes. I'm kinda curious though on how they are going to do the make-up for the apes. SFX has come along way since the 60's.

I am looking foward to the live action Lord of the Rings movie. I've seen pictures and it looks very promising.

For the Scooby Doo movie, how about Andy Dick as Shaggy.

OOhhh! but lets think about some remakes that was better than the original. I know, not many out there.

The one that comes to mind is John Carpenter's "The Thing". The original was called "The Thing From Outer Space" or It Came From Outer Space, I forget.

Can't agree. The remake *did* have incredible FX, but that's all it had. The original had better atmosphere & acting. I get so tired of movies that rely totally on their special effects.

I agree, Bunnicula.

I'll take a good story, with good writing and good actors over the special effects any day. For instance...Chinatown.

Clever title, Spaz.

Hey Spaz, You're probably right about the remake of the Apes movie, but remember that it's a Tim Burton movie, who along with David Fincher, are the best new directors around.
I don't think it will be that bad.

OOhhh! but lets think about some remakes that was better than the original. I know, not many out there.

Wizard of Oz 1939 with Judy Garland was a remake.

Frankenstien 1932 with Boris Karloff was a remake.

His Girl Friday 1940 with Cary Grant was a remake.

Lot of movies inspired by classics too.

Forbidden Planet was based on Shakespear's "The Tempest"

West Side Story was based on Shakespear's "Romeo and Juliette"

And movies inspire other movies.

Taxi Driver was inspired by The Searchers.

Star Wars was inspired by The Hidden Fortress

A tougher catagory might be sequels that surpassed the original. My favorite was "Bride of Frankenstien", next would be "The Godfather Part 2", deserving honorable mention would be "Aliens", "Road Warrior", and "Terminator 2"

Burton schmurton. Tim Burton's the guy who #*!@-ed up Batman and set the tone for the parade of useless sequels that followed. Beetlejuice sucked. Nightmare Before Christmas was a cartoon for crying out loud. (Can't criticize Edward Scissorhands because I haven't seen it.) I'm sure he'll manage to screw up Planet of the Apes. Oh, I know -- he can cast Jack Nicholson as Dr. Zaius. Don't even bother with a costume because whenever Nicholson's in a role, he's not really playing the character. He's just playing himself. The credits could read: Jack Nicholson as Dr. Zaius if Dr. Zaius were Jack Nicholson.

Burton reminds me of Quentin Tarantino. They're a couple of one-hit wonders who should have gotten the hook a long time ago.

I thought Terminator and Terminator 2 were both great. If pressed I think I'd say I liked 2 better.
