I think someone asked this before, but I would like to have my image at the top left as it used to be. I don't like to use templates, just to keep the auctions simple. How can I get the image where it used to be? Thanks in advance.

Hi Beman,

By top left, do you mean the Ipix image setting? Or in your item description? If you have an active example of what you would like to do, please let us know the ID number.

Regards,

Sonya

Hi, if I use Vendio for my images, when I go to my auction listing, there is a big empty space to the left of the bidding price.
I have to assume that this is for ebay IPIX images.
Is there any way that Vendio can program out this empty image space for your users?
It makes my auctions look terrible, because underneath the empty image box it says 'go to larger picture' so it makes my auction look as though there is an image missing.
Thank you

Hello yourfleamarket1,

This is because of the Ipix preference you selected in your account.

Go to the My Account tab, click on the eBay Site Specifics link, then scroll to the bottom of the page. In the iPix preferences area, change it from your currently selected option "leave this space blank" to the one in the lower right, where we use your first attached image instead.

Click to save the change when finished.

Christopher

Hi CHristopher, thanks for the answer.
I am a little confused though, I just changed my preferences and the blank box still shows.
Does this mean that all my auctions will show the blank box until I submit a new listing? and what about any relists?

Thanks for the info about the blank space. I'll give it a try for the new auctions.

Please excuse the intrusion -- this is directed to Vendio support personnel. It relates to gallery images.

The specific gallery image selections we make here prior to uploading auctions (using your SMBE software) are not appearing. Instead, the first image in each auction is appearing AS each gallery image. Obviously, this is not what was specified, nor the service for which we are paying.

We have read an announcement regarding a "transition" of eBay's image hosting, but this issue was not explained, merely alluded to. The announcement was vague and included terms and references we do not understand.

Upon inspection, we found that an additional choice had been added by Vendio to our on-line "eBay Site Specifics" options. Apparently, the decision was made to apply a default which resulted in displaying an empty image in the top left corner of each auction (we first noticed this when customers began sending "helpful" messages letting us know that our auctions were not operating correctly).

Upon further inspection, the only other useful option choice Vendio provided was one in which the FIRST image is used arbitrarily instead of a blank image. Naturally, we selected this.

But, selecting this option also arbitrarily REPLACES our explicitly-selected gallery image in each auction, with whatever the first image in each auction happens to be.

The ability to explicitly select gallery images for each auction has always extremely important to our sales strategy, even critical. The current approach that has been implemented completely negates this ability.

We're sure this is merely an oversight, but we are nevertheless concerned. We therefore respectfully request clarification as to when this problem will be resolved. Inasmuch as others whose strategies are in part based on careful selection of gallery images must be wondering the same thing, a clear explanation would undoubtedly be most appreciated by all.

Thank You.

Hello bookdlrs,

First, we are sorry to hear of your frustration with this situation.

What you mention is exactly how we had been doing it. Selecting to use the 'leave this space blank' option was what everyone defaulted on to when this workaround for the eBay IPix image was released.

Unfortunately, eBay made a change to how they dealt with this field when you opt out of using it. eBay recently announced a transition within their image hosting systems, in part to allow non-iPIX hosted images to be displayed in the top left section of listings.

In order to avoid this until eBay has completed the transition of their image hosting systems, you may want to use one of the other options in place of "Leave this space blank" (note that selecting another option will affect listings launched after the selection is made.)

As you mentioned, the only way to avoid the white box from appearing now is to use the option where we submit your first attached image as the gallery image. We do hope that eBay is able to complete this transition of their image hosting system as quickly as possible, to avoid this situation completely in the future.

Christopher

Dear Christopher,

First, thank you very much for your prompt and courteous reply. We're still a bit confused (no surprises there). Perhaps your patience might permit you to elaborate:

You said: "In order to avoid this until eBay has completed the transition of their image hosting systems, you may want to use one of the other options in place of "Leave this space blank"

Which one should we use? As far as we can tell by inspection, the only other choices are for static images to appear -- and these would also replace the gallery images, would they not?

You then said: "The only way to avoid the white box from appearing now is to use the option where we submit your first attached image as the gallery image."

Does this imply that Vendio will be changing their options to once again provide the normal functionality? We're already doing what you suggested, since returning to an empty box at the top of each auction is not an acceptable alternative.

Finally, you said: "We do hope that eBay is able to complete this transition of their image hosting system as quickly as possible, to avoid this situation completely in the future."

Does this mean that the problem will go away once eBay has completed whatever it is they are doing? Is this an eBay problem and not a Vendio problem?

Also, what is an iPIX image? Is this a type of image file or something that is done through eBay?

Please excuse our ignorance. We are just trying to understand. Thank you again for your patience.

Hello bookdlrs,

That is correct. Attach whatever you want to appear as the gallery image first when you create your items for now.

Does this imply that Vendio will be changing their options to once again provide the normal functionality? - Does this mean that the problem will go away once eBay has completed whatever it is they are doing?

Once eBay is finished switching over to this new system, we will be able to stop using this workaround to place your images in this upper left hand corner and submit an image directly to that location using their API (the back door access program we subscribe to.)

Also, what is an iPIX image? Is this a type of image file or something that is done through eBay?

iPix is the eBay image hosting service. You see it being referenced a lot with this issue because they initially only allowed those that were using eBay listing tools to take advantage of this new image location. When they are done switching over to this new system, they will soon be able to give others the option to submit their images to this field as well (without needing to create a workaround to take advantage of this option as we have had to do thus far.)

Christopher

I just want to thank Customer Service for posting that announcement. I, too, was alarmed when I checked my auctions this AM and noticed no pics in the upper left. I did go into Preferences and change that selection but I don't remember ever checking the "leave blank" box. My upper left pics were just fine in last weeks auction. I do believe this little problem created by eBay has cost me bids this week as my bid to hit ratio is way down. Thanks again for helping me solve the problem so tonight's auction will load properly.

Hi Vendio,
I see that you are truly trying to work with eBay on a resolution to this problem. But I just had to tell you that the "work around" doesn't work. I have the "use first pic" option selected, and my auctions launched this weekend are not showing that upper left pic; just a blank box. I triple checked that I had the correct selection on my pic preference. That's not the problem. Right now, it appears there is no way to use Vendio and get an image in that spot.

An example of this is :#2347098391.

Thanks for your attention to this. God, I hope the fix is fast.

Ed, I don't know why, but I'm not having this problem like you are. Maybe Vendio can check my settings versus yours (they seem to be the same, from what I'm reading in your post) and see what the difference is, if any. You're right...I checked the number you listed and there's no Ipix image there. I hope everyone gets their acts together soon...it's probably just a matter of time before it stops working for me too!

Ed. I changed my eBay specifics last night and it seems to be working for me. I feel like I should be knocking on wood. I don't want to have an auction like last week with picture snafus and few sales. Have you checked the size of your images? I did have one that was more than the allowed 300K and it would not work. Hope it's fixed for everybody soon.

Thanks everyone for the input,
I just listed 18 new auctions. I tried launching as a new auction, launching as a relist, playing with the pic settings, etc. Nothing works. Every one of the auctions has a blank box on top. It looks like c**p.
I checked all the image sizes, and they are all small (100k or less). Everyone of these templates worked fine a week ago.

Vendio, please this has got to be a priority. We're all competing with other sellers whose auction services aren't choking on these eBay changes.

I too am having the problems with gallery images. I change the on selection to use first image , should I change the other near the top use gallery pics? Does your old auctions that have blanks reload the pics or do only new auction after the preference change work? Also if you do have a blank and a customer hit's the link to the larger picture it goes to the bottom to the auction page and not to the larger picture is that ebay's fault or vendio's? I have wasted .25 for all my auctions so far this weekend. Please help

Hello,

Ed -- the blank box problem is a result of some image hosting changes that eBay is currently making. When that has been completed on eBay, this will no longer be an issue.

Golfwidow1 -- when you say 'change the other near the top to use gallery pics' what are you referring to?

Thanks Vintage for trying to help, but I'm 100% positive that I have "first pic" chosen as the proper option. The workaround doesn't work around for me, no matter what.

Sonya, has eBay given you an ETA on completing their image hosting changes? If this is going to take weeks or months, I'll have no choice but to move somewhere else. I LOVE Vedio! But this is killing my business.

Can you look into why selecting first pic doesn't work for me? Apparently it's working for others. I'm completely at your disposal to help fix this. Just let me know what kind of input you need from me. Feel free to call me any time to noodle this out.

Hi Ed,

Unfortunately I do not have an ETA but I don't think it will take as long as weeks or months. We will update the announcement as we receive updates.

I checked your settings. They look correct (did you recently change the Ipix image setting or was it always the first image setting). Try listing an auction now, if you have one available you would like to list. Then when it launches, we can see what the image looks like.

Thanks Sonya!
The Ipix image setting was always set "first pic". I tried toggling it off
and then back on to see if there was any effect, but there was none. I
just launched auction # 2347272073 as an experiment, but still no image on
top-just the blank box.

Any thoughts?

Hello Ed,

The preference for this iPix workaround is listed that we will use your first attached image in your auction. This means you will need to attach at least one picture through our image hosting tools.

In this example, you have included all of the HTML for your images in the item description and not attached any images through our system. This is why there was no image submitted to eBay.

In the future, just include one image from our system, so we can send that to eBay as the iPix image on your behalf.

Christopher

Thanks Chris,
Now I see the problem. So if I've got this right, I can't use any custom
templates with embedded pics until this is fixed, unless I want the pic to
show up twice in my auction, once embedded, and once attached through the
sales manager tool. Or I can accept the small default pic from the
"attach" process, and rewrite the html in every auction to eliminate the
embedded image. Ouch. Neither alternative is very attractive.

But thanks for figuring this out for me. Last week the very same HTML
assigned the embedded pic to that little upper box. Or it may have assigned the gallery choice pic to that box, both pics were the same jpeg. I hope that
useability returns soon. Maybe that could be a quick workaround---submit the gallery choice pic to eBay for the purpose of filling that box. Possible?

Hello Ed,

That is correct, if you specify a gallery image this is where it would appear. The preference has always been that your ipix image would override your gallery image, however if you are not attaching any images other than the gallery image, that is what you would see appear in this location. (As you had in the past)

Chris, I think you are onto something here. That's precisely the functionality that I have lost. I am specifying a gallery pic in every auction, but it is not being properly submitted to eBay any longer to populate that small upper box. If you look at that last example auction #2347272073, you'll see there were no attached images, just embedded images. And a gallery pic WAS specified. It just isn't working like it did in the past.
