No, dialysis is not elective, because people can DIE waiting on a transplant if they don't go into dialysis. If you mean that is elective, then YES Every surgery known to man is elective. But not every surgery is elective to the point of a "Gender Reassignment". People don't die as a result of NOT electing to have this reassignment done. And don't bother saying how it could cause depression and suicidal tendencies, because so do alot of other things that aren't tax-payer funded.

I went to school with a kid that killed himself because the other kids used to make fun of his ears too much. Maybe we should foot the bill for any medical procedure that people's little hearts desire.

Hair transplants...

Breast augmentation...

nose jobs...

blah, blah, blah.

I HOPE Miss France IS Transsexual, and if she is, I hope she will not deny it and I WISH I WISH I WISH she would just come right out and say
YUP I AM TRANSSEXUAL YEAH I WAS BORN MALE, YOU GOT A PROBLEM WITH THAT?
And then just strut her stuff proudly
HAAAAAAAAH
OH I WISH SO MUCH.

nycrocker I can't stand the public school system, and think it's a failure, so you won't make any points on that one. But if we shall, allow us to point out that investing in the education of a nation of children that will soon run the country DOES affect you. Somebody getting there "gender reassignment" bought and paid for doesn't help this country in any way I can see. It just puts a higher tax burden on the average American, and drains precious dollars from the economy.

Another ignorant post. It is the opinion of psychiatric experts that transsexuals denied treatment are at risk of becoming suicidal.

You obviously didn't finish reading that post, because little kids with big ears thinning hair and girls with a-cups and big noses feel suicidal too.

nycrocker is the truth that hard to argue, or just that hard to face. Don't take the easy way out. Face the fact that there are differing oppinions, and that you may not have all of the answers. "Ignoring" the truth is a dangerous thing...

Really? Well I don't see any of the "pro's" arguing against my points.

Sara - I'm not sure what I am being warned for. I am addressing the topic. No disrespect is intended towards anyone. I am simply trying to understand the other point of view. After all, I was the one referred to as "ignorant" and an "amateur" Where exactly did I go errant of the CG's?

I didn't see Boys Don't Cry (though I sure like The Cure song by the same title). The synopses I read left me thinking that it must be a depressing film -- the story of Brandon Teena, a teenage born female who lives as a boy until someone exposes her secret, after which she is raped and beaten to death at a party. It's a true story. I'm sure the film must have had some kind of uplifting message, but I find the black-and-white reality of what happened to Brandon Teena just too disturbing.

Films about transsexuals are usually pretty lame due either to the studios being timid or hypocritical. On TV especially, lots of regular series eventually do an episode with a transsexual character, but they always seem to have a female actress play the part of the transsexual. Why? No transsexuals in Hollywood that need jobs? None in West Hollywood? What a joke.

I didn't see Different For Girls, but I remember the review saying it was one of very few films to ever treat the subject of male-to-female transsexuality with both humor and dignity.

It's my opinion that Rocker is getting away with attacks that would shove me out the door immediately.

I am not opposed to this discussion in any way, but everyone should be able to state their viewpoint without being called names.

My question is why is this allowed in the case ofRocker and nobody else. Is she some kind of priviledged character?

I agree with Helen, and would like to add that spazmodeus's post:

"Is dialysis elective for kidney patients?
Haven't you read a word of this thread? It's not a choice"

ranks high on a long list of the most absurd misconceptions I've ever seen presented here.

jlpiece is correct. This is elective surgery, and to say that it is not because without it a person may become suicidal neglects the possibility that the person may be just as suicidal following the surgery. In either case no sex change surgery is necessary to sustain life.

Suicide too is a choice. Dying of acute renal failure certainly is not.
