Please UPDATE

Just thought I would chime in here. I have started to use <br><br> instead of para marks, and that sort of fixed that problem. But now the headings in the Vendio custom formats that I have been using have reverted to body type! What IS it with eBay?! Do they just have too many employees with nothing better to do than meddle with a process that ain't broke? Jeez. I take particular care with my ads and have pride in them. And with all this messing about, the ads look clownish. Hope they and we can soon get back on track!

ever since saturday when ebay changed their style sheet, vendio's top links in the custom template have changed colors to purple and text is not arial and is hard to read. These were not the specifications I used when creating these listings. Now there is no contrast with the background and the links are camaflouged. They used to be beige.

PLEASE PROVIDE SOME KIND OF FIX THAT WILL REVERT EVERTHING BACK TO HOW IT HAD APPEARED ORIGINALLY.

Hi everybody,

We understand your frustration with this (trust me. ) We know you would like us to provide a 'fix' for the HTML issues, however - eBay made the change that caused this. I am not sure at this point if there will be more changes made to try to correct the implementation. We do not want to make any changes on our side with our templates, etc. that might be affected if more changes are made on eBay's side. So - in a nutshell, we would ask that you contact eBay to find out what they recommend to work around this. You can use their customer service form located here:

http://pages.ebay.com/help/contact_inline/index.html

BTW, if their reps try to tell you that the problem exists because you are launching through a third-party service, please let us know. As soon as we are relatively confident that there will be no further changes made on their side that will affect HTML formatting, we will look at any remaining problems that affect our templates and make any necessary revisions.

Best of luck.

Umm. It seems that Vendio needs to step up here, not tell us that we should individually confront eBay about the formatting mess they have created. At least some of us are using Vendio templates, and the templates aren't working.

And then to tell us that we should just assert ourselves when eBay disses us for using a third-party service is putting further onus on us. I think that is not right, given that we are paying you guys. Where is Vendio's righteous outrage over all this?

Also, how is it that some other services' auction templates seem to be working just fine? Something really does need to be done here!

Marshall,

I think Vendio's intent is sometimes it is easier to get somewhere when you have MANY people complaining versus ONE person complaining. I believe Vendio is sending many emails regarding this problem to eBay, but we as eBay users need to step up to the plate to voice our outrage at eBay at what is going on. Remember, this problem is not the fault of Vendio, but of eBay. And I can understand why Vendio is not "fixing" the problem if eBay is going to change things once again the next day. I expect when all is settled that Vendio will have everything back to normal as quickly as possible.

hi, i think we should gather information about ebay putting the blame on a 3rd party.. i'm not against this..and it will be valuable information..not only for us but for the provider i.e. Vendio or any other for that matter...

these two companies are in contact...they have meetings..ebay wants something from them.. and it's good information..i'd in fact, like to know..

and this is NOT saying that Vendio NOT do anything about this...i think Vendio needs to go to their contacts.. and complain.. this stinks...

and i've been an advocate of eBay for years and increasingly i'm beginning to smell Micro-Bay.. a company that has been transformed by power and wealth...

with this said.. i hope we move on to getting this rectified so we can move towards why we are here.. doing business/making money/supporting our families.. doing what we love-i hope !!!

Thanks toyspast for writing what I was in the middle of typing and vintagevintage as well for your thoughts. We hate this situation, and please know we are making our feelings (and yours) known appropriately.

I want us to spend time working on new features that save you time and make you more money--not changing templates--just like you want to create new listings, not change old ones that worked perfectly well prior to eBay's change (that will likely change again). Hopefully, our collective wishes will be answered shortly.

Marshall,

I have reviewed a few of your auctions as examples of what we may be able to change in our template design. It appears that you have included <p> paragraph breaks in your descriptions as part of custom HTML outside of our template formatting. You would experience this problem using eBay directly or any of our competitors' templates, and the only way to prevent this impact to your listing is for eBay to change their style sheet that gets applied last for viewing bidders. Even if we define <p> on your behalf, eBay would override our selections.

You can either change these <p>'s to <br><br>'s or wait with the rest of us for eBay to fix this mess. I'd recommend waiting, but I honestly also thought something this bad and seemingly obvious would be fixed by now . . .. It must be more complex than we understand it to be.

Hi. Some of my old auctions do still have <p> rather than <br><br> formatting, but I said that all of my new ones have been changed, and that has fixed the text problem. What *hasn't* been fixed is the headings, all of which now appear in small-font body type.

Having the same trouble here as powersellerusa. I'm getting links at the top of the description turning into this ugly purple color. My templates are created with vendio templates.

Marshall,

Thanks for the heads up. eBay indeed did change their style sheet implementation again.

The good news: They removed the formatting override on <p> and <H1>, etc., so no need to remove the use of <p> in your HTML any more (unless they change the style sheet again, of course).

The bad news: Unfortunately, it's still not implemented well and doesn't meet the stated intention of the change (i.e. no impact to descriptions). Specifically, they now specify the color of visited description links to purple (some would say "ugly purple". This behavior also applies to the links at the top of the template when visited.

They also made some other changes to the way descriptions are rendered that may require a change in our template implementation if eBay calls it a day at the latest implementation. We'd prefer they implement this change differently, since it still impacts the entire community (not just Vendio sellers), and we will be making this request of course.

We'll continue to update you as we find out more. Our deepest apologies for this continued moving target, but realize we are fighting for an appropriate "no impact" solution.

hi, i've been following this waiting to start some auctions...

i agreed with vendio about contacting ebay but what a nightmare that is.. i just tried to fill out a cs form that was linked by vendio and you have to have a live auction...

we need some advice as to who to contact.. and how large this problem is.. i am on one of the chat boards and no one is talking about any problem..

if i go to the SA area i will be able to find problems there.. can you advise how and who to talk to about this with micro-bay...

it's getting like this...sorry for the attitude, but when a company is so big that there is no one to communicate with..that's a problem..

i'm at a loss here..sorry and i have to get some auctions up.. can some members please reply as to what your auctions look like right now..

i am not going to try to create in dreamweaver..i'm going to use the vendio template.. thanks

vintagevintage,

Can you give me a little bit of time yet today to see what we can do? We're brainstorming some potential changes we could make to alleviate at least some of the problem--it's not 100%, but better. I'll update more a bit later today.

vintagevintage,

We are still awaiting word from eBay on the stability or instability of their latest changes and are doing some tests of workarounds. I'll provide further updates tomorrow, but I don't expect to hear more from eBay tonight. My apologies.

OKAY, I wrote to eBay as suggested about this problem with the "ugly" purple color and here was their reply.
"Thank you for writing to eBay PowerSeller support.
If you are using Vendio to list your auctions you may wish to check with
them to see if there is a change on their side that could help.
In the mean time you may wish to revise the items in question and change
the HTML controlling those colors to correct this."
HMMMMMMMM! What to do now is the question?

Hi there,

We have a workaround we can offer for the small title font, which is to insert a </span> tag at the *beginning* of your item description (before any HTML or text. ) Obviously, this fix can only be used if there are no bids on an item.

The fix for the link color is a little more complex, however (unless you are very comfortable with HTML classes, we would advise not trying to alter the link color. ) eBay may continue to make changes, but again, once their implementation is stable we will make any necessary revisions to our templates.

Thanks,

Diana

What about a fix for auctions that have not been launched yet?

</span> only works when revising a live auction.

Diana (or Christopher or Meffle),

Is eBay working to resolve the font style also? Some of my items have the correct default font for my item description, and others have a horrible typewriter-looking font.

Just curious if I need to revise what is in my store (hundreds of items, so not thrilled about it!); and also am working on new auctions right now and didn't know if I need to do something differently.

I have noticed that other HTML issues in my items are back to normal - i.e., paragraphs, headers (H2, etc.), and bold - just not the font

Hi,

Thanks for testing ninerfanzz!

We released earlier this morning some changes to our template system that should counter many of the ill effects of eBay's most recent changes. We don't believe eBay has made any new changes recently, but we will continue to monitor, suggest, and adapt. Thanks for your patience.
