Obviously they have money, but only 2 of the 15 wealthiest companies in the worldare in the oil business. Where is the outrage at Wal-Mart for pillaging the US consumers. They're the 2nd wealthiest company in the world, and I just don't see the anger directed towards them. Or how about the car companies and banks that head the list? Why is it that everyone is under the impression that all of these companies are located in Texas. I could only find one major one. Enlighten me.

They may not be the wealthiest yet, However, enormous progress has been made to that effect. Posting record profits for the 1st quarter of this year.

I was going to ask Borillar about the majority of working people work for Mom & Pop businesses. (different thread)

So Walmart is a Mom & Pop business? McDonalds? Microsoft? Burger King?
Target? Boeing?

Yep

They did?

krs, eBay might be big, but they are peons compared to the likes of the banks and automotive companies and Wal-Marts of the world. I don't think they even made the list.

Maybe next year.

I worked in the oil industry for many years. They do have a lot of money, but they also spend a lot of money. A tour through a central processing facility, or refinery, or even an offshore platform would amaze most folks. The control rooms for these operations are always on the cutting edge of technology. The safety features, fail safe systems, security systems, and backup systems at a refinery would amaze you.

Yes the oil companies make a lot of money, but they are very efficent at what they do. How many other liquids costs less than a gallon of gasoline? Then consider that single gallon of gasoline has the explosive energy greater than a several sticks of dynamite.

To really appreciate gasoline's importance in your world you needed to have been in one of the hard hit states in 73 or 79. People got ugly, very ugly.

With crude oil price stabalized for some time now, the price of a gallon gas elevated and going higher. Go figure!

jlpiece,

Did I say something about the size of ebay? I THOUGHT I had asked you where ebay is located.

Let me know of your novel reading of "Just to aee the level of your investigations into locations of companies, where is ebay?"

Uaru,

Wouldn't it be great if the oil companies could just get rid of their drunken sailors? Or is that a continuation of their extensive safety awareness?

In the last 30 days West Texas intermediate crude (that is what Alaskan crude is priced on) has been as low as 24.88 and high as 28.98.

And today it topped out at $30 a barrel - expect to see the prices rise again in the next couple of days. Prices are nowhere near stable and haven't been for some time now.

"I THOUGHT I had asked you where ebay is located."-krs

And I had already replied 3 posts up:

"I don't think they even made the list."

Did you want the answer in pig latin, kenny?

Geographically, which is not what we were talking about, but I'll give it to you anyway, they are in Cali.

What exactly does "aee" mean. If I knew, I would have answered your question.

Maybe it's just in that special dictionary that you use.

Yes it has fluctuated, However, when OPEC crude was at $30 a barrel gas was cheaper. If logic is to dictate this scenario, a price below $30 a barrel, should reflect a cheaper price. Not a increase in price!

Now you see, jlpiece, you asked about oil companies in Texas, but you don't know that it doesn't matter. Ebay, the California marvel, is in Delaware--ask any SEC source. They got nice tax advantages there.

But what would you do if all oil was under the umbrella of a single company? Say "why, what's everyone so worried about? There's only one oil company and there's two gazillion hamburger companies". Don't you hate it when people say that you're comparing apples with oranges? And if that oil company was Texas born and operated but incorporated in Delaware you could say that there is no Texas oil company just as there is no California ebay company. Weren't you just dying to be able to say that? Now you're enlightened.

Now, what? Were you remarking upon a typo? You? I'm too busy here to pull up the dozen or so times that you've derided people for doing that. Called them names, as I recall. Do you remember those names? I know, you don't. In fact if that happened at all it was never you that did it, right?

eBay is located where, krs?

As far as your typo goes, I have no problem with typos, everybody makes them. But don't expect me to answer a question that I can't read.

Shame on you. In all your years have you not known that many large corporations call their headquarters Delaware for the tax benefits. You however asked "where is eBay located". eBay is located in California. They don't have any servers in Delaware (do a tracert). They don't have any corporate offices in Delaware, and they don't employ anyone in Delaware. They did what most large corporations do, and filed as a corporation in the State of Delaware, since Delaware law does not require that a corporation chartered in Delaware, actually be in Delaware. Due to the enormous tax advantages and lenient corporate law in Delaware, most corporations take this route if feasible. Delaware has far more chartered corporations than all of the other 49 states combined as a result. But very few are actually in Delaware. I would of thought you might have known that by now.

Either way, the answer to your question remains, eBay is located in California, NOT Delaware (or Texas).

If you wanted to know what state eBay's corporate charter was done in, I would have gladly told you that, and saved you some time.

Cheap yes, but the laws aren't quite as lenient there. Not a bad choice though.

I hadn't realized the plight of big oil companies until now, that they really aren't all that rich and powerful. But I can sleep at night now knowing that Bush is dedicating himself to remedying such a social injustice; it's definitely time that they moved up the ladder. I hope it's not too late to meet a realistic deadline of, oh say, 2004. Maybe we should organize a relief fund, along the lines of Adopt a Struggling Energy Company, in the event that indirect government subsidies are not sufficient to address the crisis, and the more patriotic among us could pledge a monthly contribution to help ensure their minimal subsistence. We all need to embrace our civic responsibilities and take positive action now. Just talking about it, won't solve the problem.

Ebay is in Delaware. It doesn't matter where they operate. IIt matters where they pay their taxes. Same as you and me.
