Is this an automated thread????

McVeigh's violent and senseless protest has had the opposite effect than that intended on the "Patriot's Movement" according to the Summer 2001 Intelligence Report of the Southern Poverty Law Center's Intelligence Project, which keeps track of extremist right wing movements. The article below outlines their information.

As heinous the crime, McV deserves due process just like anyone. A rush to judgement (execution) is not in our interest as deomocratic Americans. Whatever McV's motives, whether it be just to sling mud at the government, it should not be forgotten that witholding of evidence and tampering by the FBI must not tolerated. Our entire system of government including the courts is terribly corrupt. Looking the other way when a defendant is robbed of his rights affects everyone, guilty or innocent.

BTW...

I'm fine with McVeigh alive. In solitary for the rest of his days. OR in a State Penn...in the general population. THAT could be a bit of justice, a mite overdue....

NOT a Federal facility...please. I think just a tad of penitence is in order... I prefer he not play golf.....

It appears that we will have some difficulty discussing the fate of Tim McVeigh while the queen of smart elk, toke, and AKA Jamesoblivion continue to banter back and forth about nothing.

Well, Toke, who is this new "Jamesoblivion?"

I think I know...

Antiquary,

What a frightening number of hate groups in this country! I really
didn't realize the scope of the problem until I checked out your link.
Thanks for posting it!

I just tried the link I provided and it doesn't lead you directly to the article itself, "The Rise and Fall of the Patriots." Apparently you can't copy a link directly to it, (tried again), but if you follow the links provided on the introductory page, you will be led to the latest Intelligence Report. Other interesting articles there also.

Yes, Helen, it is amazing and they are all documented. Who would have thought that one could develop such discriminatingly fine tastes in hate as to have numerous alternatives for specialization.

Maybe McVeigh realized where he was going AFTER his big event .... and he wanted to stay up here in the cool air for a bit longer ......

Antiquary,

"Who would have thought that one could develop such discriminatingly fine tastes in hate as to have numerous alternatives for specialization."

Your writing just takes my breath away.
"discriminatingly fine tastes in hate"

It is unbelievable.I am going to return to
the article because I think that I missed the article that you are specifically referring to.

Well, it appears that there is a trend toward
leaving the militia activity in favor of smaller hard line groups. Isn't it interesting that fear is motivating so much hate. Fear of the government as villains...
based on such incidents as Ruby Ridge and Waco, fear of gun control, fear of job loss because of trade agreements, fear of arrests
and ironically, fear of their own particular hate group!

Good article, Antiquary!

Hi, I was away for a while. Glad you liked the phrase. It's encouraging that interest in the most extreme groups is declining. The impression I get is that the McVeigh bombing in particular had a sobering effect on many extremists.

By analogy, I've hoped that the Bush presidency will be the climax of the movement toward political control by the far right.
