UBID shipped twice of what I ordered.
They only charged shipping on one of the packages via UPS, my auction page says I ordered only one and if UPS says only one is shipped do I have to pay for the second item.
They would have no proof that they shipped the second item. This is my first experience with them. I can cancel my credit card payment at any time.
HELP

I hate to have this attitude, but it depends on the company. If its a small company, you don't want them to take the loss. But then again, do companies sell on UBID or is this UBID directly? They can prove nothing so I would keep them both.

Around 5 years ago I had a large PC manufacture send me 2 replacement PC's for one PC that was not working right. I sent the bad one back but kept the other 2! Its their fault if they don't watch these sort of things.

A similar thing happened to me a while back with a music instrument retailer website. They have a price match guarantee. I typed in the price I found somewhere else for the same equipment but made a mistake and put $0. I resubmitted my request with the right amount. Anyway, to make a long story short, I received an email "We will not match your price of $859.00" but right after that I received another email "We will match your price of $0. Click here to order" so I ordered the expensive piece of equipment for $0 with free shipping! Guess what? I was never charged! Best believe I kept it! Why?

Well, these companies hire uneducated people. Not that I am saying people who are uneducated don't deserve work, I am just saying that the companies cut corners instead of hiring good experienced out of work people just so they can make more money and pay minimum wage to people who will accept minimum wage. So, I don't feel bad one bit! Its their fault anyway! I would have paid the $849!

I purchased a set of hp polk speakers on ubid for $ 40.00. they shipped me 1 little 4 inch speaker. After 3 months and many, many e-mails I gave up. They just would not resolve the problem. They just kept sending me emails that a manager would get in touch. After buying a ubid for over a year and spending several thousand dollars, NO MORE MONEY FROM ME. If you have a problem with your purchase, YOU CAN FORGET IT.

Look at this from another perspective...I once received a bunch of cds twice from Columbia House. The post office told me that I'd have to pay to ship them back, so I kept them. I wasn't gonna pay for their mistake. Why should you have to pay all of that shipping for the mistake of that company?

Ok, here's another option...
How about Honesty?
I cashed a check at a bank a few years back and told the teller I wanted to deposit 800.00 and 200.00 in cash. She gave me my receipt with the 800.00 deposit and then handed me 800.00 cash.
I was raised that you don't take what is not yours, or at least try not to take it.
When I told the teller she had made a mistake, this offended her and I truly believe she would not listen. After trying to explain the mistake for 10 minutes, I finally gave up and ended up with 800.00 in my account and 800.00 in cash.
They never did call me on this. But at least I tried.

When my Son's were little, they found a wallet. IN it was about 300.00 in cash but no ID. They brought it to me and asked what they should do. After giving them some options they decided to take it to the Police. They were told that if no one claimed it in 60 days, it wold be thiers. Poor kids, waiting and dreamed of what they would buy.

Anyway, someone did claim it. Thoses kids learn a great lesson though. Apparently, the owner was on a fixed income and needed that cash badly. It was too bad though that he did not feel a need to thank my children for thier good deed.

My point is, honesty is a good option too.
Don't get me wrong, I have been very tempted to keep what a mistake gives me but if I did not at least try, I am not sure I could sleep nights.

HOWEVER, when the grocery store misses and item and does not charge me for it, I have never ever gone back in to tell them.

LOL

To all you sellers out there who are getting frustrated and abused by:
· Non-paying bidders
· paypal charge backs
· Bounced checks
· Fraud problems
· Negative feedback for no good reason (retaliation)

I found out the hard way that safe harbor and FBI don’t do a thing about it, and I signed up for a sitesentury.com, a security company that will do REAL investigations. Check out their site, I signed up for their service and I put their log on all my auctions and the bad guys will think twice before they mess with me!!!!!!! It is like having a security guard by my side protecting me!!! Which car do you thing the thieves like to break-in: one with alarm-on or one without??? That is what the log will do for you.
The investigator already got me some of the money I lost on bounced checks and the bank fee too!!!!!!
Do yourself a favor and check out sitesentry.com

Most important question is- do you have integrity? If so, contact them and inform them of their mistake and that they can arrange to pick up the item at YOUR convenience and at THEIR expense.

I had an experience with my credit union where a mysterious deposit for $300.00 appeared in my checking account. After 6 months a numerous phone calls, the money was still there and I stopped trying...the credit union just couldn't seem to figure it out and was getting annoyed wih ME! You might run into the same thing and could then keep it with a clear conscience.

On the other hand, it seems you're looking
for justification to keep what is not rightfully yours. Ever lose something and have someone return it...or worse, never return it? How did you feel? There's a BIG difference between doing the right thing and doing what you can get away with!

In a legal sense, what is sent to you in the mail without your asking for it is yours to keep. Period.

Morally, however, you might at least want to give em a call and a chance to pick the item back up.

If someone has miscounted my change or something like the bank example that was mentioned here, I would speak up and try to point out the mistake. I don't want the clerk, cashier, whoever to get in trouble because they are short at the end of the day.

However, if I've made an effort and they don't take me up on it, I move on and don't worry about it.

I haven't always done this, though. When I was a Freshman in college, my wife and I bought a suitcase from one of those catalog stores (such as Service Merchandise, but in this case, it wasn't Service Merchandise). When you by many items at those stores, instead of taking the item off the shelf, you fill out a piece of paper with the product info on it and then pick the item up at the warehouse desk after you've paid.

So, we fill out the paper, give it to the cashier and pay. The cashier sends to order to the warehouse and we go over there to wait. Out comes a box and the warehouse guy hands it to us. When we get home and open the box, we see that there are ten of these suitcases packed inside rather than just one. (The distributor sends the suitcases in bulk and the store is supposed to break them down into individual items).

Instead of taking the suitcases back and explaining to them that they gave us nine to many, we gave away the extra suitcases as Christmas gifts (I seem to remember that we actually returned one for a refund, meaning we kept one, gave eight away and returned one to get our original money back, but it's been so long ago, I don't recall if we did that).

Not surprisingly, said retailer has since gone out of business.
