Hello Kathy,
The package types listed should match up with some of the available options at the shipping carriers themselves.
For example, if you ship via USPS and your item is over 1 cubic foot, enter both the dimensions and select the oversize1/over 1 cubic foot package type to be sure your items are calculating the cost correctly.
The oversize 2 and 3 options are specific to UPS, but as long as you get your dimensions entered correctly the carrier should be able to calculate the cost on the listing.
If you ship a specific carrier and would like a further breakdown, let us know how you typically ship your items and we'll get the carriers package type descriptions from their website for you.

I can tell you absolutely that unless something has changed very recently, the dimensions alone do not provide the adequate upcharges for oversized packaged, be it parcel post or UPS.
We once got burned for about $20.00 in shipping because we had the dimensions right, but apparently didn't "guess" which oversize to select.
That's why I'm asking ... why not have reference to that somewhere on the page? I don't mind learning the things I need to know (and we've been shipping for 8 years), but I'm not comfortable guessing whether I'm only oversized instead of huge.
At least these terms should be identified as pertaining to UPS or to USPS or something ... they just seem to assume we know something that I'm not sure we do.
That's why I'm asking -- I have searched both the USPS and UPS sites and haven't found those terms duplicated on either (oversize, oversize2, and oversize3).
If you want to point me to where these terms are used on USPS or UPS, I'm happy to figure things out for myself, I guess ... I just sorta feel left hanging.
