I apologize if this has been addressed ad nauseum, but I'm not here in the community very often to read all the posts.

I use my debit/credit card for payment of my automatic monthly Vendio charges. Is there some reason why we can't choose (you don't offer) PayPal as a payment source?

Seems a bit behind the times to not offer them as a payment option, no?

Hello,

You may make a payment via Paypal, however, please note that because the process of recording a Paypal payment is manual, as with all payment methods other than automatic credit card payments there will be a 5% handling fee applied.

Please submit the payment to ->-> [email protected] <-<-, and be sure to include the service fee as this will be deducted from your payment before it is posted to your account. Also, be sure to submit your payment well in advance of your billing day, as our system is not set up to process these payments automatically.

To calculate the amount you should pay, simply multiply your payment amount by 1.05. For example, if you were making a $25.00 payment, the amount you would submit would be $26.25 ($25.00 x 1.05)

Thank you for your cooperation, and please let us know if you have any questions.

Regards,
Nathan

Does't Paypal prohibit the charging of a handling fee?

From Paypal:

4.7 No Surcharges. You agree that you will not impose a surcharge or any other fee for accepting PayPal as a payment method. You may charge a handling fee in connection with the sale of goods or services, as long as the handling fee does not operate as a surcharge and is not higher than the handling fee you charge for non-PayPal transactions.

Hello Beth,

The second part of that is that a handling fee may be charged as long as it is not higher than handling fees that are charged for non-PayPal transactions. We charge the 5% handling fee on ALL non-credit card payments (check, money order, PayPal, etc.). Also note that a credit card is necessary to open a Vendio account, and we state that the only payment method that is accepted is credit card. As a courtesy we have put this process in place for customers that want to pay via PayPal, check, or money order.

We don't charge 5% because it is a PayPal transaction. We charge 5% because it is not a credit card transaction.

Regards,
Nathan

Hi Nathan,

Thanks for the quick reply. Well, darn. I guess I won't bother then. Seems silly for me to do more than I currently have to (although I do it for my eBay fees for FREE) AND be charged for it to boot. lol

Just out of curiosity, don't the major CC's charge you a merchant fee (or whatever they're called) based on payments you've received? So, if you don't charge users a handling fee for CC payments, why is it OK to charge for PayPal payments.

PayPal says:

"...not higher than the handling fee you charge for non-PayPal transactions."

Currently you don't charge for CC transactions, so wouldn't those be considered "non-PayPal transactions" that are not subject to a handling fee?

I don't get it.

My two cents, but it seems you are discriminating against those who prefer to pay with PayPal as opposed to a CC.

Hello,

Credit card transactions are automatic. All other payment methods require an individual to manually process them (hence the handling fee).

I don't mean to beat an obvious dead horse, but I don't see that you answered my question. Could you address those please?

Now, based on "your answer", how is a PayPal payment different in "handling" compared to a CC? What's the difference?

I mean, it's not like you have to "manually" process a PayPal payment, unless of course you consider transactions on the internet "manual." Vendio, like everyone else, has an account and the balance in your account at any given moment can be transferred automatically to a bank account with no charge applied.

As a side note, I've done A LOT of purchasing on the internet. More and more sites accept PayPal as a payment option. Vendio is the FIRST site I'm aware of that charges its customers a handling fee for processing a PayPal payment.

Hello,

We do have to manually process any non-credit card payment in order to apply it to your Vendio account.

Nathan,

Why is answering my questions like pulling teeth? Are these company secrets or something? Sorry to be snarky, but this is frustrating.

One last time, and then I give up. How is a bulk payment from a major credit card company (which doesn't automatically apply MY payment to MY Vendio account) any different than the bulk payment you'd get from PayPal?

Help me to understand.

Hello,

Payment via credit card most certainly does automatically apply your credit card payment to your Vendio account. Payment via any other method must be manually applied to your Vendio account.

OK, so what you're saying is that when you bill my CC, you receive ONE individual payment from the CC company, which automatically knows that it goes to my particular Vendio account, instead of into a lump sum Vendio CC account. Fine, I can live with that.

I think your bookkeeping software needs to be up-dated. If eBay and other companies can do it, without going through whatever hoops you have to jump through now, I'd think Vendio would be able to do it too -- but what do I know. ;o)

Thanks anyway for bearing with me. I appreciate that you've taken time on a Sunday afternoon.

I'm off to finish my listings now.

I'm curious - Why don't you use your PayPal debit card. When you do, you'll receive 1.5% back from PayPal.

I don't have a PayPal Debit card, mainly because I don't keep funds there on a regular basis. I transfer any weekly sales balance (after all fees are paid) and put it in my own bank account almost immediately.

I might consider getting one anyway, but the fact that Vendio still charges for me to use it for their fees, remains.

Thanks for asking Bill.
