I would like to print a summary of the entire transaction - show essentially all the info that's in the full export but in some printable form. This would be useful to me especially when all is done for filing purposes (and to protect against electronic data loss like I've seen at times in eBay's system).

Is this built into the system? If not, why not?

This is not currently available, but we will certainly pass your note along as a suggestion to add such a tool in the future.
