Hello jackswebb,
We have implemented a change to the create listing process, and we now require that you select the category prior to entering the create listing screen. After you select your category, you will be on the create listing screen (which will be much faster to load now.) The only difference is that we are now supporting item specifics for those categories that offer them (such as tickets - item specifics are required for tickets categories.)
Note that you should select the correct category for your listing *before* you start creating your listing, to prevent the need to edit the category during the listing creation.
This process should really not take any longer than the old method if item specifics are not required for your listing category - can you tell us in a little more detail where you are getting hung up?

Hi, Jackswebb --
I also wanted to mention that if you frequently list items in the same category, you may want to consider using an inventory profile. In the example you gave, an inventory profile would help you cut out steps 4-6.
When you create an inventory profile, you can define your category and related auction details (such as duration and item location). Then, from the "Choose Category" page, you can simply select this profile from the drop-down list and hit "continue" to go directly to the listing page, without having to traverse the category tree.
The actual process of choosing a category has not changed between our previous page flow and the current page flow. The steps required to traverse the tree is the same as before, but an inventory profile saves you from having to take these steps every time.

AuctionWatch--for God's sake! I have loved you and have recommended you to friends who sell on ebay. NO LONGER. They are already calling me to complain about this "new and improved" listing method!
DID YOU HAVE ANYONE WHO SELLS ON EBAY HELP YOU WITH THIS?!!!!
YOU SEEM TO BE GOING THE WAY OF EBAY, TINKERING WITH THINGS THAT WORK WELL. SHAME ON YOU.
Here's what happens for those of us who list collectibles--there's almost NEVER an item in the same category in one of our auctions! And writing the description, uploading the pictures, AIDS OUR CREATIVE JUICES to change categories frequently until we have it right.

Hello all,
Thank you for your opinions and feedback.
While the process flow is different now, the process itself (number of clicks/pageloads) is essentially the same as before - you just select your category as a separate step before entering the create listing form rather than selecting the venue.
Note that once you select a category and enter the create listing form, if you want to edit the category and change it you can do this. You can also now list to categories that require and support Item Specifics (Attributes).

Ok, Ok, my first reaction is the same as everybody elses. When you're used to doing something 20,000 times a week, and then it gets turned around and upside down, it puts a big screeching halt to the flow. I'm sure after we've got a few auctions under our belt with the new and improved(?)process, we'll probably be fine. However, I will voice one complaint that I probably WON'T get used to. It is much more difficult to SEE what item the catagory is in, especially when doing re-lists. It sort of blends in with all the other stuff I never look at (bold/highlighted/etc.). Can you make it stand out more? Highlight it in blue or something? That way our eye can catch if there's an error in the catagory or if we might want to change it, etc.

Hello toyspast,
I will be happy to pass your request to make the selected category more prevalent on the listing page along for evaluation. Thank you for your patience and support!
