Why Lie about your name change?
On 3/24 I posted a question on the AW board about noticing VENDIO.com on my image url's. Below is a copy of my question & answer:

Has AW changed their name to vendio.com? When I checked on some images I noticed a NEW url (imagehost.vendio.com).

YOUR ANSWER:
Vendio is a domain name we decided to use for our Customer Manager service for a number of reasons. Vendio is a shorter name and easier to type than AuctionWatch, plus the word 'vendio' means 'sold' or 'to sell' in many languages.

The product team wanted to offer Customer Manager customers a cleaner sounding email address than [email protected].

Why Lie about it? If you were planning a name change ... Why not just say so?

Hello cherrytreegirls,

You are absolutely right - we did not tell the whole truth a week ago when you asked. The reason for this is that we were not quite finished with the development effort and the story around our name change, and we were simply not ready to tell the whole story until we had all our ducks in a row.

So please accept our apologies - the decision to tell only a partial truth was not an easy one (and kudos to you for figuring it out early... )

If you can forgive our transgression, there are actually some tangible benefits to the rename effort. For instance, the site now loads significantly faster, as we've drastically slimmed down the number of graphics on each page. Additionally, the URL is shorter, resulting in less typing in your browser address bar.

Strategically, there are other reasons our change to Vendio is a good thing. We are a growing company that has plans to expand and introduce more services to our sellers. Our mission is to provide services that enable our sellers to succeed selling not only on eBay, but in other cost-effective ways as well. To tie our name and future exclusively to auctions would be folly, and result in missed opportunities as sellers begin using other means to sell online. We want to help facilitate your success, and open up those options sooner than later.

We hope this helps address your concerns!

Best regards,

Diana

The name change is good. However, not telling us about it in advance giving us the date of the change is bad.

All of our links on our websites and in our e-mails are now showing redirects. Ugh.

This is not as bad as the awful logo on our invoices, but we definitely could have been let in on the secret.

When Andale went a la carte, many sellers said they would leave. I was one of them. I did leave to come to AuctionWatch. Now I will be testing another management site -- not because of this name change here at AW/Vendio -- but because of the secretiveness and lack of disclosure that AW has been foisting upon paying customers lately.

Ok, I am about to have a heart attack. I currently run thousands of auctions and have literally thousands of templates with all my pictures reusing some of them indefintely with the old URL! Are you going to just change the URL on all of our pictures? Or will the ones I have loaded be fine from now on? I would literally have to change thousands of templates and about 5 Url lines, and I will really have a breakdown.

Hello coolaroni,

Images with the old AuctionWatch URLs will continue to be served until almost all images are referenced from the Vendio URLs. You do not have to rush to do this, but we do recommend that you make the change at your leisure, a few at a time.

Thanks,

Diana

To cherrytreegirls,
Oh PPLLLLLLEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAASSSSSSSSSSS!!! AW (or now I should say Vendio) is NOT your eighth grade boyfriend, your spouse, your parish priest or your child - they are a business and paid for or not, you are not entitled to all their behind the scenes workings, ESPECIALLY when there is no relevant reason for you to have known ahead of time.

If you are that sensitive about such trivial things, enough to leave a business support service that works well for you, then you might think about taking Business 101 at some local JC, or even going to work for someone else rather than being your own boss, oh, but that wouldn't work since that same old bugg-a-boo about running every decision by you first would just rear its ugly head again there too.

To Biffette,
Oh PPPLLLLEEEEEEAAAAAASSSSSSSSEEEEEEE ( you forgot several E’s up there)

If you will notice this url change DOES effect MY business!
Look at the following post :

Images with the old AuctionWatch URLs will continue to be served until [u]almost all images are referenced from the Vendio URLs. You do not have to rush to do this, but we do recommend that you make the change at your leisure, a few at a time.

For sellers who reuse photos in templates we DO need to know this information & make changes.

Bottom line…. IT DOES MATTER!

For me it's not about company changes but how it is effecting US! Possibly people that don't have to change thousands of auctions can be cavalier!

My response to support........

Liesure? I have thousands of reoccurring items, that sometimes I don't relist for a year, and they would have the old URL's (some as many as 6 per item I would have to change). This is beyond a nightmare, and just not right! I have stayed with Auction Watch because I would kill myself if I ever had to change my URL's now it is being thrust upon us without changing companies. How long will the URL's be good for (VERY VERY IMPORTANT QUESTION? I am telling you this will be almost an impossible change for me, that will take me months of work!

Hello,

If you are using Sales Manager to list/relist your auctions you do not need to worry about changing any image URLs - this will be done automatically.

If you are using image hosting only and relisting directly from eBay, you may need to eventually change the URLs - this will not be the case for a long time, however.

Thanks,

Diana

cherrytreegirls,
You need to perhaps calm down and stop with the hysterical knee-jerk reactions to everything. I never said you should never know about the changes - I said "you are not entitled to all their behind the scenes workings, ESPECIALLY when there is no relevant reason for you to have known ahead of time." AHEAD OF TIME. AHEAD OF TIME. Are you getting this?? Calming down also helps in reading and comprehension. It also has the added benefit of allowing you to decide, rationally, where & how your time is best spent - which, would most certainly not be in posting complaints driven by an obvious lack of understanding basic business management.

Diana.........

Yes I use a power lister to relist right from eBay. This will create the most incredible hardship, as they already will have the old URL's and as I said I sometimes don't relist things for a long long time, so eventually there will be listings that I will completely have to redo (like thousands of them) It is surreal, and not sinking in to the problem this is causing. Please give me the URL that needs to be inserted from now on (leaving my file name of course)
Off to go take some poison........

Hello,

You would use the same URL you have now, except substitute the /imagehost.auctionwatch.com/ portion for /imagehost.vendio.com/

Again, there is no need to rush to do this, the AuctionWatch URLs will continue to work, and you can update the URLs as you relist your auctions.

Diana
