In the auction templates what exactly is an embeded layout?

Hello,

One of the uses of this template could be for users that write all of their own HTML code and embed the images for their listings into their own written HTML code instead of using our tools to create the ads.

We also use it to format imported auctions that were launched from outside of Vendio.

Regards,
Christopher

The layout determines the placement of pictures and text relative to each other within the description that goes into your template choice. Therefore, any layout choice can be paired with any template. Embedding the layout means the user designs all the html themselves and pastes/embeds it into the template. It allows the user to control all aspects of their description design and picture placement via their own html without any Vendio layout restrictions. But otherwise all the other tools such as upload pics, import data, create listing, select template, create profiles, save templates, payment arrangement default, checkout default sections, and other listing tools can all still be used, unless the person wants to delete all those also because of personal preference. Images are imported into their specified place in the layout by a different method, a different image code is written by the user into the html.

The main disadvantage is that since the Vendio "attach image" function is not used, there is as yet no way to get a picture in your Vendio auction gallery. A pic there is automatic if you use any of the other layout choices. The other main disadvantage is also the big advantage--you have to write all your own html for everything-- and I mean everything! Most people don't want to do that. It's also not very adaptable to high volume. An html generating program is highly recommended because you are essentially doing all the web design yourself, except for the underlying template design you roll your html into.

I came to AW/Vendio because it was the only auction management company I could find that allowed embedded layouts within specialty templates so I can achieve layered graphics with false transparency, positioned and sized exactly where I want them, and with text and links of any kind I want and anywhere I want them relative to the images, plus still benefit from the templates (especially the store template). There are quirky things about the niche market that I am in that make lower volume graphic intensive listings more desirable and selling at higher prices than standard layouts with attached pics for even the same item, so for me it is more than worth the extra work. Unless you have very special needs relative to your desired layout that Vendio layouts can't provide, however, it is far easier to just pick one of their layouts and get on with things.

WOW THANK YOU passedtothepresent for that detailed explanation. I had a feeling that was what embeded layout meant but could not figure how to do the attach picture part with it. I was trying to figure out how to use my own HTML and still use the attach images feature and it just did not work, now I understand why. I appreciate the help!

Hi cococgld. If you already have your html ready to go with the pic imported into the page in your layout, that's the hard part. The image is the easy part. If you would like to try embedded layouts, just be sure the image "name.jpg" saved with your page/html was saved/renamed the same as the image name that's already on that image uploaded in Vendio. Then all you have to do is replace the long file extension location that precedes it originating from your computer with the Vendio embedded image code.
I'm set up now to do a quick code-copy, highlight, cut and paste. Then your html will pull in the image from Vendio where ever your html goes from there on, even to your own computer for the previews. As a bonus, you will always know if your html is working before you finalize the listing, because if not the image won't preview for you (no surprise absent pics after launch).
It's much easier to click an attach image button instead, but it's great fun to design your own stuff if you enjoy it. If you are interested, just play around with it until you like the previews, schedule long pre-launch times as a safety so you can edit it more at Vendio online if you want, and if you don't like it you can just delete it.
If you decide to experiment, good luck and have fun!
