I'm sure this has been asked here before, so forgive me - I did look through the archive and the FAQs first and didn't find anything.

In Global Preferences, under "Auction Listing Items" it offers a checkbox for "I will insure shipment." Does that mean that I, the seller will PAY for insurance, or that I, the seller, will insist that the buyer pays for insurance?

Thanks
Jeff

Hi Jeff,

That box means that you do offer insurance, and that the buyer has the option to select it. You don't have to offer it if you do not want to -- to turn it off, go to My Account > Global Preferences and check off that you do not want to offer insurance. If you do, you can leave it selected, and decide how you want to offer it and at what denomination.

Regards,

Sonya

<<<< Thanks. Please excuse my newbie questions, and clarify for me---

In the global preferences section the insurance option is referenced in two separate sections.

(1) The insurance section -- this is where I select whether or not to offer insurance, and how much to charge.

AND

(2) The "Auction Listing Options" section where there is a checkbox stating "I will insure the shipment."

My question pertained to item #2 above. What exactly does that checkbox do?

Also, is there any way to manually enter an insurance total for my auctions that have already closed, so that it will appear as an insurance option in checkout?

And, is there a means of making insurance mandatory, while still be separately identified as insurance?

Thanks!

Hello kildes,

The checkbox "I will insure the shipment" under Auction Listing Options appears to be an oversight - this option really does not currently do anything, and it should have been removed from the preferences page. Sorry about that...

Unfortunately, there is no way to add insurance to a listing that has already closed when insurance was not included when the listing was created. The only way to add insurance would be to add it to the shipping cost, and explain the total in the text of the WBN. Also, at this time, there is no way to make insurance mandatory but separate. This has been requested in the past, so I will be sure to pass along your inquiry as well.

Best regards,

Diana
