I've spent all day on the phone with SMC and Comcast. Any computer geeks there that can tell me why since setting up a wireless router/barricade I can't upload pics?

I will have to save the other file to CD and send it from my laptop....my desktop won't send an attachment.

Yes, I have recently installed a wireless router aka barricade. I have spent DAYS on the phone with both my provider (comcast) and SMC (router)

Hi glassgrl,

Unfortunately our email system is incompatible with HTML, so can you just tell us what the result from dslreports was? It should be fairly easy to interpret whether speed on upload is close to download speed.

Thanks,

dinaa

I have Comcast cable modem and a SMC wireless router/barricade 7004VWBR

Windows 98 on the desktop where I'm having trouble connecting, staying connected, sending emails with attachments (I can send an email with no attachments, the others just stick in the outbox), I can NOT upload pics to Vendio (my auction hosting service), XP is on the laptop where I have NO trouble doing any of those. I've only had this trouble since I set up the wireless connection.

I've been on the phone for DAYS with both Comcast and SMC and still can't get anywhere. I've tweaked my registry manually to:
Windows 95/98/ME, using Cable Modem or DSL/ADSL
MTU :1500
MSS :1460
RWIN :372300
TTL :64

SMC has freed my ports.

I am 33178 feet.

The Speakeasy link doesn't work.

Hello glassgrl,

I'm sorry to hear that you are still having trouble. It sounds like something in your setup is causing the problem (especially considering that you cannot send emails with attachments.) I would recommend contacting your router company again, perhaps having them escalate the issue. Also, wondering - have you considered upgrading your Windows version? I am not recommending that as a solution, but it might help as Win98 is somewhat out of date. If you have not done so already, you should at minimum go to the MS website and download/install any updated service packs.

Thanks,

Diana

Also, if you could email a couple of your images to me at [email protected], I can check to make sure there is nothing image or account-related going on.

Thanks,

Diana

I've updated my windows etc. I'm still in communication with SMC and ready to chunk it out the window. I have a couple of auctions running that I uploaded with pics by burning them to CD and uploading them from the laptop. The laptop screen is s***** for fixing photos though and I don't want to fill it up with jpegs.

Oh well. Just thought maybe the techies over there could have a solution.

Here's the latest in the saga and what might help somebody else if this ever shows up again. You might want to pass it along to the techies FYI.

I formatted my computer <again!> and installed Windows XP.

It still didn't work.

I tried the tweak tests etc @ www.dslreports.com and posted at the forum (the forum was no help). It still didn't work.

Cussed SMC out again and they said that my MTU MUST be too high. To set it at 576. Totally contrary to everything over at dsl reports. They say 1500, SMC says 576.
Ran Mr. Tweak and set it for 576.
It worked.

Ran the ping tests over and over. The final result was that I could set my MTU to 1000 and no higher and with that I can upload pics and stay connected.

Hello glassgrl,

I'm glad you were able to get that figured out... and thanks for passing along the solution.

Diana
