When I try to create a new listing, no categories are showing up in the drop-down boxes. Actually the drop-down box isn't functioning at all. Please advise.

I suppose I could enter the category numbers in the category number box-- but it's such a pain to look them up every time.

Please advise.
Thanks!!

Hello,

The problem is most likely related to recent changes that eBay made to their category map. Every time eBay updates their category map, we must also update the map on our site. This means that the first time a user visits the category page after an update, we must fetch the new map. Since the category map is fairly large, the time to fetch this page the first time after a category update is noticeably longer than normal. We have added a progress bar, so you should see that an update is taking place.

Note that the update process can take several minutes. Please allow time for the map to update before exiting the page. After the map has been updated, time to access the category page should return to normal.

If you are unable to load the category page, or the progress bar is halted, please try pressing the ctrl+F5 buttons (simultaneously) on your keyboard. This will force a refresh of the page, and may help with the category loading.

Regards,

Sonya

Hello Sonya,

Thanks for your prompt response! Even after fully reloading the page, the drop-down box for category selection is still inactive. (The drop-down arrow is gray.) I went in and changed my item specifics to select a certain category, but it is not allowing me to change it except by entering a number.
The first drop-down box for "New Listing" is still active however.

Thanks,
AJ

Hello,

Are you using the AOL browser or another browser? This problem occurs every time eBay changes their categories. The category tree in your account must be reloaded, hence this delay. Please try using another browser if you use AOL. If you don't, please let us know if you have the eBay toolbar installed or if you have javascript enabled, and we will go from there.

Regards,

Sonya

I too can't load categories with the AOL browser. Per your unstructions, I loaded IE and tried it that way, still no luck. There was no progress bar at all, with either browser. So, I tried the Cntrl+F5 to reload the page and iIdid get a progress bar. However, it says it is done, but still no categories! I tried this 3 times...still nothing. It's Friday and I need to list right away, so I get to bed early and get up and 4:00am and go find more stuff. HELP!!

Hello,

Stay within IE directly, also close out of any other open or running programs you have down on your taskbar.

Clear your temporary internet files while still on that category page, then try the CTRL+F5 key again.

Another tip is to try to edit the category of an item you have in pending. Click on the title, then use the edit category button on the listing page itself. Again, stay on this page, be sure your out of other programs, clear your temp files again, and again hit the CTRL+F5 key.

It will work, but you may need to switch back and forth a little before it loads the first time. Once you can get it to load into your browser properly, you should be able to continue to do so without error.

Regards,
Christopher

I am havingthe same problem. I have done the refresh at least 20 times, from various pages, before and after deleting teporary files and restarting computer.

What else should I try? Something must have worked, oryou would be still posting about it!

Thanks in advance.

Hello,

Do you have the eBay toolbar installed? If so, please uninstall it and go to eBay and make sure you've got the latest version of it. If you don't, please download the latest version, and then try all the remedies for loading categories on your Vendio Create Listing page.

Regards,

Sonya

I am having the same problem, I am on Verizon DSL with I.E. Tried your suggestion & still Zip Really takes time to have to go into eBay to find a category. I use as part of my TOS some "boiler plate" as to shipping etc. I have this under the headinG "BOOK". all I have to do is change the heading, put in the description & change the category. Now I can't do that w/o going into eBAy, & then back to Vendio.

Just tried it through my other internet service, and I get the same thing.

Also I have a pending auction that I have created since eBay last changed it's categories. It was created without this problem.

NO eBay toolbar here.

Please advise.
Thanks again.

I am out of things to try. None of the suggestions here have made any difference, other than taking a lot of time and causing frustration. The only solution I can think of is use someone elses computer.

I had a friend try to my account on his computer and it was fine, so it must be something in my computer settings or connection, but they haven't changed in the last two days, so why am I having the trouble?

If anyone finds a solution PLEASE post it here!
Thanks

More things that don't seem to work:

Emptying cache and restarting computer.
Emptying cache, enable script debugging, then closing aol companion, and cold booting computer. And using reconnecting with different ISP.

Interestingly enough I now get some a progress bar (actually circles) above the category box that says "loading categories", and yet the categories don't show up even when the progress bar stops.

Perhaps going back to a restore point would help?!?

OK, I just restored my PC to a date prior to when I created an auction that is pending (the categories were working fine then), and STILL it's not working.

Not that anyone's listening -- I just thought I'd mentioned what hasn't worked so far.....

Hello,

The category tree is very large so each time ebay updates, you may go through something like this. The fact that you now get the progress bar means that it is actually starting to load up for you, so it may be close to fully loading. The new category tree has to get fetched, there's not much you can do to speed this process up.

You may want to try using Sales Manager Pro to list your items as well. All you have to do there, is perform a synch, and the tree will upload.

This has been going on all day for me also. It is especially a problem when doing relists for categories that changed. I like others have cleared my cache, closed out of everything & rebooted.

Vendio - I think we have a "glitch". Please fix it. You can look at my 2 errors in the pending list. I have been trying to relist these with no success. Please see if you can launch them.

Thanks.

Everyone I have about this has said this must be a glitch in Vendio, either getting the catagories after ebay's update or in trasfering the catagories to me.

"after an update, we must fetch the new map. Since the category map is fairly large, the time to fetch this page the first time after a category update" this is from the first customer service reply.

I'm not sure how my temporary internet files would make a difference to your site linking to ebay's site? It must not or there would be no problem after I deleted them.

Any more suggestions, other than changing listing services?

The catagory tree works fine in My Account, where I change my ebay settings, so it isn't my computer.

It will take me a long time to look up the numbers there, then go back and type them in the right place, but it would have been faster than the hours I have spent trying to get them the right way.

Hopefully whatever is causing the catagories to not show up on the listing page will be fixed soon.

I finally figured out a way to find categry & number. 1; Go to My Ebay; 2; Go to sell, 3. Check on Category & search for the right category. Once you have it click on it until you find the right subcategory. The number will come up in a box on the upper right hand side of the page. Its work but at least you get it done.

I guess the other idea would be to look up the category number in Sales Manager Pro (standalone)! Why didn't I think of that yesterday! I guess that's what I'll do for my relists.

Vendio - please check it out!

Been trying all day just go it to work.

Try this it just worked for me!

Go to the Cat page, click on tools,Inernet options, deleat files...now disable your virus program and your firewall, then click on refresh!

Worked like a charm, I then Enabled:Virus & firewall before I did anything else.

I tried what the previous poster, dadofstickboy advised, and it workded for me too. I have AOL. I went to settings: internet: and deleted cached files, history, and cookies. Then, I went to my Norton antivirus program and turned off security, firewall, etc, anything that was on. Then, I went back to Sales Manager and the categories loaded immedietly. I did a few listings, then turned everything in Norton back on again. The categotries are still working. It only took a few minutes to turn things on and off. I can only guess there's something in the antivirus program that keeps new categories from loading. Below, is a copy of that email I mentioned.
