Do I have to do anything special to notify them? The buyer sent me a money order out of the blue after over three months.
I'll happily cash it and send her the item, but after I retrieve the file from archive, do I need to do anything else?

I'm not sure about eBay's policy for this. If you can retrieve the item from the archives and close it out with a buyer, then you should be good.
Best Regards,

Susan ... I have emailed my powerseller support with your scenario question and will let you know here when I find out ...
ebay has really changed their non-paying bidder report area and I can no longer find a link to where you should report that kind of thing ...
when you DO fill out that type of report with ebay, ebay will cancel the "strike" against the buyer, and will re-take the FVF from you, that they had refunded to you when you made your NPD / FVF filings.

Hi susan ... I am back to report to you the info i got from ebay, inre buyer paying you after you got your FVF back ... here is pertinent part of what they had to say:
--------------------------
You can remove an Unpaid Item strike by going to the site map and
clicking on the "Request final value fee credit" link located under the
"Seller Accounts" heading. Next click on the "View all Unpaid Item
Disputes I have filed" link and then scroll down the page and click on
the "View" link next to the item you want to reverse the final value fee
credit for and click on "remove the Unpaid Item."
If there isn't a link on that page it means that either the dispute did
not result in a strike originally or that the strike has already been
removed.
