How can I have an image that is as wide as the page, without having to use Zoomstream? Is that a function of the template you choose? Right now my images are only half the size I need them to be.

You're not asking for an opinion but I'll give you one -- use the click to enlarge feature and don't make them full size on the first auction page.

So many people still have older, slower computers and trying to open such large images on a single page could freeze them out ... or cause them to skip by your auction.

Design your auctions for the lowest common denominator and you'll have the best luck.

Vendio image sizes are set to enlarge after 250 pixels wide, so it sounds like images around 500 pixels wide on your auction page are what you might like. That size of images and larger can load very fast if they are optimized to low kilobyte file sizes in your image editing software before uploading to Vendio. You can upload and insert any image with any pixel dimension width you like either in the layouts or by inserting the image code in the text where you want it to appear. If you keep it optimized under 40kb file size it will load almost instantly even if it spans the width of the page. Try 500 pixels wide optimized to 25-35 KB to start.

If an image is used that is much wider than 600-650 pixels the people will have to scroll around alot to see it because their browser window will be smaller than the page even though it loads easily. There are other things on the screen taking up width in addition to the picture (blank space around the picture, the Vendio template frame, ebay's page margins, etc). Browser window width sizes run around 600-800 pixels depending on the computer, but the pages in them are coded to "stretch" so the page becomes as wide or wider than whatever image you load in. If you load in a 1000 pixel wide image only a quarter to a third of it will show without scrolling around and your description text may also get proportionally spread out.

If you go with bigger images, consider using a layout where there is no text included with the images to get distorted by the picture placement. For instance, both of the "Stacked" layouts can feature a single centered image per area of width without distorting any text in the same area. As long as your image(s) are all on the page, at least the text will also all be on the page under or over them. In contrast, if you use an all left layout with huge images, your text may distort to a tiny ribbon of letters squished far to the right and strung out vertically enough that the viewers can't find it or read it.

I'm sure you already know lots of this stuff, but hope some of it saves you a few of my previous "trials and errors".
