Many Chinese, and US merchants have begun to fradulently sell pearls.
They blatantly list pearls that are size 7.0 Chinese freshwater pearls dyed black, as Tahitian black pearls, and at a price of around $50.00
Unfortunately, many people are buying these pearls, and have no idea what they're getting. First of all, Tahitian pearls start at around size 8 to 9 mm, so the size should clue people in. Secondly, the price is obviously not the price of a strand of Tahitian pearls, which would be in the thousands of dollars.
I'm hoping that some day eBay will be able to do something about this.

I would never purchase "jewels" of any kind on eBay again. When I was new on eBay, I purchased a loose Aquamarine stone. It had nice color in the photo. However, when I got the stone it was almost white in color. Hardly any blue at all. That was the last of it. A lot of things are misrepresented on eBay. Anything coming out of China should be looked at and purchased cautiously particularly purported antiques.

Right. It's difficult enough to go to China and find the products without being cheated.
When an end user buys online from China, they are in a difficult situation because the shipping is expensive, and it's also expensive and time consuming to ship it back.
Buying pearls from China dealers online is like playing Russian roulette. Many are honest, but many are not, and even the most honest are prone to exagerate the product.
Its the same with American dealers, but here we have some avenues of protection, and return shipping is not too expensive.
Online buyers are better off buying pearls from American sellers who have a 90 day return policy, clear photographs, and complete descriptions.
There is no industry standard grading system for pearls, so a buyer should not take a sellers word that a string of pearls is AAAA+++ Grade, because that only means what the dealer wants it to mean.
The dealer must have a printed section on the web site to describe in detail exactly what each Grade letter means to this particular dealer. That, along with the photographs will tell the buyers what they're getting. Then, if they don't like it they can send it back.

Sure it can Stop. Gold is a very soft metal and the higher the gold content, the more fragile the chain would be. It also depends on the type of chain and general thinkness of the links.

No, I'm saying -- I'm merely -- I'm saying what I'm saying. I don't know why I'm always having people say, are you trying to say -- you know what you can do if you want to know what I'm saying is listen to what I'm saying. What I'm saying is what I said ...

Does that mean that you wore it to bed? Jewelry should never be worn while you're sleeping because you can twist and turn numerous times during the night... same as if you have wild sex and wear jewelry... it can possibly damage it.

Hi stopwhining,
My jewelry suppliers advised me about the problems that I may have with customers because of the careless way they handle their jewelry and over the years I was surprised at the ones that damaged pieces so easily due to lack of knowledge or just not caring.
There were even a couple of customers that told me they had some chemical that comes out of their skin and it 'ate' their jewelry but said they didn't wear pieces continuously and cleaned them after wearing.
This site addresses most of the reasons why jewelry wears out, including wearing it while you sleep. I take my chains off but usually leave small hoops, studs, etc in piercings unless they have stones in them. I realize that some always wear their chains and never take them off because of sentimental reasons and may have done so for years with no problems.
