Just out of curiosity - since you don't sell anymore on ebay and have in fact "deregistered" (?), what's the obsessive fascination of ebay for you now?
This reminds me of a woman I left who, post-breakup, spent the next several months leaving me thrice-daily voicemails telling me she never wanted to see me again...
If you have been too busy selling online, perhaps you are unaware that the Internet and e-Biz, (or what's left of it), are having an enormous impact on the Real World, and therefore, although you obviously have no interest in current events, I assure you that the people in my social circle are very interested in these fascinating events.

Does this mean we're STILL going to have to PAY for PAM? Or will it be free now that they have moola coming out their! And BTW, have you noticed that PAM's cute little numeros HAVE DISAPPEARED!...and the beat goes on...

shoshanah: this is a remarkable, newsworthy quantity of VC, as the VCs have become quite "stingy" of late, and amounts of 10 million are considered almost miraculous, much less 27.8 million. I believe that this bespeaks not merely an affirmation by the VCs of AW, but more importantly, a direct affirmation upon the online auction industry at large.
If you do not believe this is important news, you might be living in an alternate reality to the one many other people currently inhabit.

That's the first thing I've found that makes ANY sense in these threads, radh. Except I suspect that "many other" = 1 (not counting the voices, of course).

I had no Idea that AW was providing me with solutions to enable me to leverage dynamic commerce.
I just thought it was a handy place to pick up auction tips

You are correct in your observation on how it has affected our society -good and bad. Something worth carefully watching.

In the period since this successful raising of millions & millions, AW has made many many partnerships and deals, and AW will work with Alta Vista and index in the universal search alla the mdse that Alta Vista businesses plan to auction off, (in B2C fashion).
Maybe there will be some changes, now that renown venture capitalist David Weatherall has decided to retrench previous global plans.
Time will tell.
CMGI pulls horns, drops plans for global fund (Reuters Securities)
"CMGI Inc., until recently the star among Internet investment firms, Thursday pulled the plug on a highly touted $1.5 billion deal to form an international Web venture fund and said it would whittle its small army of operating units down to half a dozen or so."

Thanks for bringing this thread back, radh. I bought a few shares of the meVC fund today, so I now own a small piece of AW -- woohoo!
The fund (MVC on the NYSE) looks like a great deal to me. It's a closed-end fund that's trading at a big discount to its net asset value. According to meVC, the fund is still sitting on something like $215M cash, which means the cash value alone is worth about $13.60/share. Today's close was $14/share -- it's like getting a bunch of startups (including AW) for free!

No, Glenda.
In the news alerts I've about CMGI, there were a scad a few months back which explained that the big E-TAILERS at AltaVista (shopping.com) are gonna run auctions, with management tools from AW, and that alla the AltaVista etailers' mdse will be indexed into the universal search at AuctionWatch.
I ahve not had good luck with anybody's universal search, but this development -- alla that new mdse by big e-tailers will certainly water down the listings made by microbusinesses.

radh, if you don't sell on eBay or have no interest anymore with eBay, why go on a crusade to stomp eBay, AW or in fact anyone who seem to be making some money. Life is too short, go out and enjoy the sun. Its better than all the negative ramblings here.

- Life may be short, but going out in the sun won't lengthen it, and melanoma isn't pretty.
- It's been my theory that it won't be auction "venues" that win this game, it'll be who runs the slickest search site. This thread buttresses my instincts.
- If you're buying or selling online, this matters. If you're transacting on the premier online auction site in the universe, it matters more. Makes sense it's here.
I vote for more of this kind of info. Let's know what our knicks and knacks and quarters are supporting, what we're part of, and let's get the best cut possible. Thanks for the hard biz factoids, radh and wabmester.

comic123: Thank you for yet another post embued with such stellar ideas and kindness. I wish you the best of success in your online sales at eBay and hope that you have a fine holiday sales season, whilst so many dot.coms who tried to steal our customers by giving them FREE merchandise, even $25 thereof, are now dot.gones.

pareau: after AW received its third round of big financing, I got dozens of news alert from Yahoo about all sortsa deals and partnerships, and see, some people here felt that AW would run a c2c auction, but see, that's NOT where the vulture capitalists believe the "real" money to be.
Most of my news alerts about alla the new partnerships for AW came from YAHOO - where my news alert was based upon the search string: "CMGI AND auction"
Ya know, I do NOT believe that people do NOT know about NEWS ALERTS offered by Yahoo and CNet and etc, etc, etc.
People are intentionally trying to discredit the FACTS in these news articles by discrediting ME and calling me obsessive and asking me why I spend hours in research.
I do not spend hours in research!!
LOL!
How preposterous in this day and age of instant news alerts delivered directly to your email in-box.

I may not always agree with radh but I think she is an asset to this board. I like the way she states her mind about things and I love following up the links she provides. I would not know half the things I know about the politics and inside wrangling (as opposed to the everyday business) of the online auction industry were it not for her vigilance as a watchdog. It really doesn't matter me if she actually runs auctions or not. I doubt Meg Whitman runs auctions either. That doesn't mean she's not capable of commenting on auctions. The same applies to radh. My mother always told me that the mark of a civilized people is the ability to disagree with out becoming ugly or insulting. I wish I always lived up to that high standard. I think radh does it pretty well considering how much chaff she takes. and I think her writing style is interesting and poetic. I'm kind of tired of people insulting it. just my 2 cents.

capriole: YOU are not supposed to post MY userid -- that is for ME to do, if I so choose, NOT you -- this is part of the AW TOS.
brighid868: Thank you for your kind words; people feel the need to attack ME, to discredit ME, to lamp00n ME, to try and humiliate ME, because the facts speak for themselves.
capriole: Would you kindly edit your post and REMOVE your rendition of my userid from your post?
If you actually believe that I am selling under KNOWN userids, then you simply do not understand how many corporate saboteurs exist who want eBay and its sellers to fail.
I lost THOUSANDS of dollars when my microbiz was SABOTAGED by hateful individuals.
